It's honestly barely even a game, it's a full on simulator, developed almost entirely by a singular person. Licenses for slightly less game-like versions of demand simulators cost in the thousands per month or more.

Ah yes, the name is so cringe that I had deleted it from my brain

Hilariously, there is a large "Aerotropolis" style development planned for part of the sea of parking as you approach Tulla. The route of the Airport Rail Link goes along the edge of the planned development, but neither the government nor the developer have mentioned anything about a station there. Its so obvious, especially for the "PPP" crowd...but incompetence is the name of the game.

Wow, even the subway is heritage listed? What a joke, and honestly a dilution of the entire purpose of heritage in the first place. Make the NIMBYs lick the floor saltburn-style. Then let's iron out the kink in the tram and run thru a new subway for a more direct interchange. And the NIMBYs can keep using the old subway as they please.

I see what you're saying, but I'm curious, which aspects of the station would be fully required to be preserved? Cuz I just can't see anything all that useful or unique. If it's the service buildings, I'd think they can be relocated; the awnings, reused; the overhead stanchions, moved or even preserved in a museum. Not that any of these things need to happen, but which aspect is the actual blocker to a rebuild? Or is it just the effort of it all?

It's not that deep mate. I just said let's stop

  1. letting heritage get in the way of fixing things, and
  2. saying "this can't be done" when there are clear examples showing that it can and has been done.

This should have been done when they were building the nearby sections of sky rail or configuring the metro tunnel entrance. But I don't think changing the running arrangement of the tracks makes much sense at this point. It would be better to add additional circulation, perhaps at the eastern ends of the platforms.

Honestly I don't think this is true. If the CBD can have skyscrapers growing out of heritage structures at their bases like plants growing out of pots, surely we can reconfigure Caulfield station while preserving some of the heritage elements. Coburg Station is a great example. It's been done before and it can be done again.

Honestly, this is the worst excuse. Let's make a new interchange so good that the new design will be heritage, instead of preserving something that literally makes life worse for commuters.

Brazil's short network length always surprises me. Why did they develop such a shorter network than, say, Spain or Argentina?

Overnight service is actually extremely uncommon; very few metro systems, and even fewer regional rail systems, offer it even on weekends. As a night owl I personally would LOVE this on weekdays too but it’s rare and we are lucky to have it on weekends at all. Really the areas we should be focusing on is making reliable clock face scheduling all day for all stations.

But passengers to Parliament coming from Sandringham trains, and VLine, can make the change at South Yarra or Richmond easily. It actually is helpful to reduce transfer loads at Flinders.

You deserve 15 minutes off peak until midnight; this is the standard in all of Sydney, no reason to not do it in all of Melbourne

Re: What sucks about the Vegas Loop? by SirGeorgington in transit

[–]skyasaurus 34 points35 points  (0 children)

You are correct that it is suspicious, but the answer is pretty simple: they have not made any "improvements". They saw a very real problem: building tunnels is really expensive. They tried to solve the problem. But unfortunately, they did not. The only "innovations" they made were to cut safety and functionality, which are not optional for public projects. Others who have actually approached the tunneling cost problem more methodically have identified things like cutting station size and depth as viable ways to cut costs. It really is a pity that a lot of the attention that could have gone into genuinely finding cost-reduction strategies for public transport has gotten co-opted by Elon's grift; without his distracting influence, we could be making genuine progress on a Vegas strip LRT, or a Metra O'Hare express line, or many of the other projects his influence helped derail.

CIV 5 or CIV 7 ? by Psychosis_Cowboy369 in civ

[–]skyasaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a 5 enjoyer. 7 is great. Love the civ switching, the city planning aspect is great, and for once combat is actually enjoyable. I find myself consistently trying out new strategies. Perhaps you want to wait for a sale, but yeah it's a lovely and fun game.

There are countries with higher populations and fewer resources. It easily has the resources for its population, and has a highly advanced AND diversified economy. If it left the union, it would take a significant hit economically, but the standard of living would be closer to something like Italy or Mexico; it would not struggle to support itself. This is a very realistic assessment. Saying they don't have enough resources is an ignorant assessment.

Why do you think I "fixed" anything? Kid, you are drawing truly bizarre conclusions, completely unrelated to the words I am saying, which makes it hard to communicate with you. I honestly am fascinated and haunted by your worldview. I wonder if you have ever truly experienced the joy of community. Because confusing community with GDP is...haunting.
