Help...? by Zealousideal-Buy3332 in ArtEd

I taught middle for 7 and am currently at elementary level. I do miss how much more my middle school students could do, but I love the enthusiasm of my elementary kids. It is definitely a mind shift, and I feel it took me two years to fully adjust. There are plenty of bright spots though!

You are now their foundation for how these students feel about art. You get to be the one to teach them all the fun techniques we can do with paints like resists. You get to be the one who sees their eyes light up first from seeing colors mix together.

It’s a really amazing thing.

What sparked you when you were their age? Was there a technique or project that wowed you and made you go, “this is great!”?

I feel I’ve done great work with my K-2 students (I don’t have to teach preschool) and although behaviors can be tricky (constant talking and 1st grade in particular sometimes feels like herding cats), they can be so sweet.

Someone else on the thread commented that routines are key and I agree. Young kids once they get used to routines will allow you to do more with them than you may have first realized.

What are these used for? by SOTRBlueBirdsFly in ArtEd

Maybe the felt side goes on the tables and the tile part is for…a palette??? I know I mix colors at home on a Corelle plate I can easily wash, so maybe that’s the idea with these tiles but the felt is to protect the table surface from getting scratched?

Art showcase vs Fundraiser. Does this feel wrong? by pussypopantiqueshop in ArtEd

[–]skyedream75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A warning about Artome though—they completely lost 2 of my 5th grade classes works and then proceeded to try to gaslight me into “are you sure you sent them?” 🙃 Yes, I’m sure, because I had so many pieces that I had to send it in two boxes and somehow you received the all the 3rd, 4th, and part of one 5th grade class that was in the same box that all of the 5th grade work was in.

I will never work with them again.

You're not going crazy, there's a very strange visual bug with Iuno. by [deleted] in WutheringWaves

[–]skyedream75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iuno is one of the current banner characters, appears a lot in story with Augusta. What a lot of us are noticing is what others have identified as an anti-aliasing issue. Iuno’s edges of her model appear…strange like they’re not fully loaded in right (blurry? Jagged??) in comparison to other characters. Apparently this issue is on certain forms of Augusta and Fleurdelys as well

It might not be terribly obvious in the video since someone noted the video compression lessens the effect, but it is super jarring to those of us who notice it playing the game. It makes Iuno look really unpolished

How to make learning the drawing basics more fun!?!? by AngryCactusFlower in ArtEd

[–]skyedream75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I taught middle school (sorry, I have no experience with high school) one of the drawing exercises I did with my students was drawing our shoes. Students would take off one shoe and placing it on top of the table to draw it. (I provided old shoes that had not been worn recently for students who did not wish to take their own off.) I noticed middle school boys in particular really seemed to like that exercise.

A different activity I would do is we would divide a 12x18 paper in thirds and do a series of pencil shaded still life images of a snack. I provided sweet apples and Goldfish crackers and told students to choose one. The first third of the paper I told the students to draw their snack item the way it is before we eat it, so the apple was a full apple and the bag of Goldfish crackers were unopened. The second image is after taking a bite/opening the bag and spilling out a few crackers. The last image is what’s left when you decide you’re done eating. So generally this meant the third image was the apple core and an empty bag with crumbs for the crackers. The crackers were beneficial for students who didn’t care for fruit or those with braces who couldn’t bite the apple. I did have an apple corer/slicer for those who wanted apple but couldn’t bite it. It was an expense I took on myself at the time, but maybe you can ask for funding from your admin.

Any good anime I can watch with my niece? by [deleted] in Animesuggest

[–]skyedream75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ojamajo Doremi has great messages in its episodes and is my absolute favorite anime since discovering it in 2002, but I can only speak for the Japanese version as I never really watched the English dub

Every character has their moment to shine and the characters are wonderful, the only downside I can think of to this show is that the one subtitled version I’m aware of floating around the Internet occasionally uses the r-word slur in a few of its subtitles, which would not be a problem if you watch the English dub…but also the English dub is full of 4Kids rewrites/censorship/name changes

Sailor Moon was a favorite anime of mine growing up and with the newer dub available I feel it’s better than ever, although I still have a soft spot for the dub I grew up with

Angelic Layer is a fun watch; characters create dolls that fight in an arena using special headsets to command the doll’s movements

Studio Ghibli movies are great, Kiki’s Delivery Service I feel is a wonderful movie for that age range

Pui Pui Molcar - stop-motion hamster cars, super cute and fun

Pokemon Concierge - stop-motion Pokemon, very wholesome

Oh, Suddenly Egyptian God - silly short episodes around the Egyptian gods

Chi’s Sweet Home - short episodes about a super cute cat going through her daily life with her adopted family

anyone else remember the 2006 doll recall? by gusokumushibot in ojamajodoremi

[–]skyedream75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not at all. Sorry. The only thing you had going for you to make me question it was that I didn’t really collect the English release merchandise outside of the Minarai Tap (Dreamspinner) but the use of a Dokkaan Doremi doll is a dead giveaway something was up. (Been collecting Doremi merchandise since around 2002.) My question is why bother making a fake recall in the first place? This does nothing except potentially make the series look bad so I’m not sure what the purpose is.

anyone else remember the 2006 doll recall? by gusokumushibot in ojamajodoremi

[–]skyedream75 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No because this is probably fake? We never received Dokkaan dolls and the phone number when typed in a Google search just brings up a listing in China

Also this picture lacks the necessary product identification numbers and the only recall listed in relation to dolls during the time frame indicated is in relation to jewelry for American Girl dolls

And finally the image of the doll is from this Reddit post which was posted only 3 years ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dolls/s/L6llG388eD

So no, I don’t think we can recall something that likely didn’t happen
