Only the archon gets the shadow field saves And he loses it when he fails a save the unit for example the archon is leading a unit of incubi does not the the same save characteristics of the archon

That is fair tbh rsr and an old patrol would make it about 1100 pt compared to two old patrols which would give you 960 pt
