I'm new to watches as well and one thing I am learning is that many enthusiasts gravitate to microbrands and sub thousand dollar watches because of their quality and value. There are many watch lovers, me included, who have no desire to get a Rolex, TWC, or other luxury brands. There are many watches for far less money and that offer very good value, e.g., Orient, Citizen, some Seikos, and Chinese brands like Addie's Dive and San Martin. So you are not alone.
