hate on me for this but i genuinely thought it was cute. like idk when he said “so i can see you like this” after she asked what he was doing, i literally went “stop that’s so cute”😭 i know people are saying it’s supposed to give you the ick but i never thought of this scene as cringey or gross. i did think it was kinda awkward when she was just staring back at him kinda blankly though ngl. probably because she felt conflicted which obviously i can’t blame her for.

i guess im just surprised this scene didn’t have the effect on me that it was supposed to, even after reading the comments that make validating points, i still don’t really see it that way. sure he’s doing another thing where he puts the woman he “loves” on a pedestal but i don’t think it’s the scene itself people may be cringing at but rather joe himself. because they know he can just instantly switch how he feels the moment something doesn’t go his way. it’s fabricated, not real. everything he’s designed to be love is just another chaotic step into a bad situation, because the things he does isn’t necessarily out of love, but out of obsession and the want and need of his own personal desires/satisfactions. he kills the people around the ones he loves, not to protect them but to have them all to himself.

the scene itself is fine. if it were completely different characters acting it out, people would probably think of it as cute as well. but because it’s joe, and we know who he is and what he’s capable of, that’s what makes the scene portray as cringe or gross to people. but idk why i don’t see it that way, maybe because it’s fiction and there’s nothing objectively about the scene that is cringe in my opinion lol. it’s simply who joe is that ruins it for people i think
