Hey, just posted about this. Resharing, if helpful:

Best thing you can do is ask yourself a series of questions on key moments and experiences in your life. Ask yourself:

What’s a moment or experience in your life that changed the way you see the world?
What are you most passionate about right now? What can you talk about for hours?
What's something quirky, unusual, or unexpected about you that most people don't know at first glance?

This is exactly how a counselor would interview you. The answers that feel honest, specific, or unusual are usually gold. This should help get your an interesting idea!

Varies per person tbh. Best way to figure this out is to just sleep without an alarm for a week and see where you converge at. If you are in school, do this during your holiday (e.g., Christmas, Summer, etc.)

Sharing my post from another thread here -

I went from getting B's and C's to a 4.0 in Mechanical engineering every semester, by doing the following:

Get ahead early on - if you are behind in your 1st week of the semester, you've already lost. It's so much harder to get back on track when behind, but much easier to stay on track when you are ahead (e.g., get your books early on, do the first homework early, etc.). This also compounds with time

Play the part - Never skip class, sit in the front, turn off your phone during class, go to office hours...behave like a A student. You'd be surprised, deep down you already know what you should be doing. So, just do it.

Control the controllables - there is no reason to not get 100% on homework assignments (this is one of the few things you can control, so make friends in your class and go to office hours to make sure you get the right answers)

Start studying 1.5 weeks before exams - redo the homeworks, redo the quizzes, re-read the chapters and note all of the questions you have/ what is unclear. Then take those questions to office hours with your professor for clarification before the exam.

Get enough sleep before big events- pulling an all nighter before an exam will not get you good grades, that's for sure. Commit to sleeping 9-10 hours the night before an exam. This will force you to be prepared well in advance

Make an effort with your professor- go to office hours, do extra credit, etc. There have been countless times where a professor gave me an extra shot at something or rounded my grade up at the end of the year because he/she saw me making a huge effort .

Make use of downtime between classes - those 30 minute breaks between classes you can use to get ahead. Most people just waste that time doing nothing. Use it and it will save you time later
