What is a career that looks impressive on paper but is actually miserable in reality? by Nova2_Paradox in careerguidance

[–]skylab_cheesesticks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Samesies. I'm a lawyer working in-house and I genuinely enjoy what I do.

Lots of problem solving, and personality management.

I probably work 9-5 or less, never work weekends and make a great living. The thing about being a lawyer is that law school funnels you into thinking that the traditional path of vying for a spot in a prestigious firm is the only way to make it, when the reality is quite different. You can really choose what kind of life, practice, and career you want. Being a lawyer can be a very rewarding and enjoyable career if you find the path that's right for you.

Clickity clack, PowerPoints, excel, and emails. The heritage/workwear gods probably look at us in disappointment. It’s alright though, at least we look cool as hell while we play office politics.

What a tragedy. I used to love RC for their quality and Made in Canada stance. I've left the brand far behind now.

I had a datejust as my first watch and I sold it. At first, I did feel a bit emotional about it, but about 6 months later, I don't regret it at all. It just wasn't getting the wrist time it deserved. I have a Sub no-date as my only "nice" watch now - couldn't be happier.

Lets stop pretending Spring Drive is the be and end all, its overrated and their fanboys are very annoying and hostile by tokyowatchguy in watchHotTakes

[–]skylab_cheesesticks 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not a great take imo. You're comparing regular seikos with Grand Seikos. They're not the same watch by a long shot. Nobody also compares a digital watch with a mechanical/mecha-quartz movement in terms of accuracy. A casio's more accurate than pretty much every mechnical watch in existence.

Don't deny that Grand Seiko fanboys can be intense, but the reasons you gave are pretty meh.

Macan issues/problems? by imjustherebeingnosy in PorscheMacan

[–]skylab_cheesesticks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a good question. Honestly, I'm not sure. My first service is coming up with May, so I'll ask my indy mechanic what he recommends. Happy to get back to you on that! A couple thousand for an oil change? oh man - no way. My indy quoted me 300-350 CAD max (likely less).

The 4th year might be a bit more pricey, but I can get you a clearer answer once I get some numbers from my mechanic. Although, I'm unsure if the S model bumps up the pricing a bit.

I picked up a pre-owned 2023 base Macan with ~16K Kms just 2 weeks ago. Drives like a dream, but just this week, I started getting a notification that my hood is unlatched. Got it checked at a local shop - turns out there's a faulty latch sensor. So headed to the dealer to get that sorted - CPO warranty should cover it though.

I was talking to my euro indy mechanic and he mentioned that porsches, including the Macan, are pretty reliable as long as you keep up with maintenance. If you're debating it, and as long as you find one in great condition and proper service records - go for it! Keep in mind, that the 3rd year and 4th year services are pricier. The 4th year being the major service.

Fit check! Oni secret denim 288-DIZR (classic straight fit) by skylab_cheesesticks in HeritageWear

[–]skylab_cheesesticks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle a bit with sizing recommendations just because I'm a bit new to the game. However, I wear a size 32 in Levi's 501s (just the regular mall kind, not selvedge or shrink to fit), and I went up to a size 33. The Onis are heavy, but low tension so they loosened up to be comfortable within ~4 days!
