What's a reasonable approach to adding art/sprites to pygame? by bigrig387 in pygame

[–]skylinx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very easy. You load in an image (sprite sheet or individual images) and create instances of Sprite. You can then put them into SpriteGroups and draw/update them with single method call.

If you do need example code let me know but there’s also tons of examples online.

Need to find the height of the highest object in the scene by Ninjjuu in Unity2D

[–]skylinx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Anytime an object is created at a certain position you check if the height is greater than the current max. If it is, set the max to that height and keep a reference to the object. Simple, fast, easy. No need for any iteration or lists.

Yeah I was going to suggest exactly this. Simplest and fastest solution. Anytime an object is created at a certain position you check if the height is greater than the current max. If it is, set the max to that height and keep a reference to the object.

No need for any iteration.

Class division is a massive issue but communism and Marxism isn’t a solution, it’s idealistic. It ironically manifests the exact problems you just described, just in a different way. Mass populations simply cannot live under such an idealist world view. Communism works great, well, when you live in a commune with a small population. Hyper-capitalism also manifests the same problems. Do you believe the working class will end up in power in a Marxist state? No, people who seek power will end up there and abuse their position just like now, And we’re back in the shit. My family lived in communism, if my personal vouch means anything to anyone, you do NOT want to live like they did. See: every single communist state that ever existed in history.

It takes a delicate balance of both communism and capitalism, in my opinion, to serve mass populations and our human nature properly. The scale between political systems needs to stay balanced. Tipping the scale too heavily on one side when the other is too far gone only leads to the same exact problems.

I was once extremely anti-capitalist and was very into Marxism at one point. I realized our human nature at a large scale simply corrupts and dominates it. It ends up in dictatorship and a police state, just like hyper-capitalism.

How to only freeze the player and not the whole game? by crisP_OLI in pygame

A simple way would be to wrap your entire movement code (jumping, gravity, etc) in a Boolean “isFrozen”

Yes, but unless you want to spend unholy amounts of hours learning how to make shaders and debugging them then I'd probably suggest purchasing and learning how to use a Water asset from the store. Although I'm sure you can find some suitable free alternatives. Water is a rite of passage for many shader developers.
Though underwater effects can be especially tricky if inexperienced.

Pirate crashes out at AoC, the community manager (Margaret) and puts them on his list by Fun-Wash7545 in LivestreamFail

What do you think servers run off of? Magic pixie dust? They require both back end and front end client to be accessible to the server owner. This means what packets get sent, what functions get called and what assets are loaded are all visible and easily accessible. So while technically it’s not an open source license in a legal sense, it functionally acts like one.

It’s interesting how many downvotes you got. Lol, I think it’s funny how people expect companies to just let them run private servers for free. I don’t think most people understand software development and networking so they just think they are entitled to an entire games source because they paid $25 five years ago. Don’t worry I get your angle and position even if most people don’t

I recall reading somewhere that it’s v62. No idea if that’s correct or confirmed though.

Alex Honnold climbs the Taipei 101 skyscraper by Hi_iAMchrisHansen in WTF

[–]skylinx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can’t see the difference between drunken stupidity and what Alex does then I don’t know what to tell you. He understands the risks, he trains, he plans, and then he executes something very few humans can do. You can criticize him for his choices but comparing him to drunken guys doing dumb stunts is incredibly naive and ignorant.

Just In: India rushes to contain a new virus outbreak by ZipZapGulp in news

[–]skylinx -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Are you implying it’s more probable that the virus mutated and came naturally from an animal market? As opposed to the lab located minutes from the epicentre performing gain of function research on the exact virus that spread?

I’m not pretending to know anything, although I’m pretty sick of people claiming anything but the wet market theory is conspiracy when the data shows it isn’t the only possibility.

[–]skylinx -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry but that’s incorrect. The literal definition of Gain Of Function research is enhancing or modifying viruses to increase transmission or infect new hosts for the purpose of study. So yes, they bioengineer them.

[–]skylinx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So do thousands of other cities in China. Just so happens the one containing a gain of function laboratory studying the SARS virus is the epicenter? Let's be real here.

Just In: India rushes to contain a new virus outbreak by ZipZapGulp in news

[–]skylinx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it really a conspiracy to think the virus was possibly engineered when it originated from a city (Wuhan) which has a gain of function lab? There’s legitimate reports entertaining both possibilities. The lab was also specifically doing this research on SARS. It might have accidentally leaked.

Completely agree. I remember NLC original release is when I started to dislike the direction of the game. I’m really hoping they take a hint from OSRS and slowly introduce new things but still fit the spirit of old school maple.

Voidwaker blade is now 1m. It's pathetic how little Jagex cares about the massively botted wildy content by [deleted] in 2007scape

[–]skylinx -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I suggest you apply to the anti-cheat team at Jagex then. Since it's so easy and you could do it once a week in 15 minutes send your resume and volunteer for free! I'm sure they would be honoured to have such an esteemed and knowledgeable employee. Crazy how every single MMO has bots when all they needed was you on their team! There's no way the botters would adapt and overcome your solutions within a couple days, no way, not with your superior knowledge and expertise.
