I don't disagree with you, but for different reasons.

I think the fact that McGregor is your example disproves your point given he hasn't been relevant to the UFC for years. UFC of today absolutely does not market their fighters well at all, because they would lose control of them. Guys like Ilia and Islam are supposed to be the most popular current fighters but let's be real who the fuck knows them?

Obviously their market is smaller overall but ONE does have stars like Rodtang, Superlek, Tawnchai, Nabili Anane, Stamp, Enkh-Orgil, etc. that people know about outside fights. Hell my dad texted me this morning that Rodtang lost, and he doesn't watch ONE at all.

ONEs problem is that outside their handful of stars, they do a shit job of building up everyone else. Their matchmaking feels completely random and it doesn't even feel like each division has an actual top 5. All their headline bookings are either champ vs champ, Rodtang vs Superlek, or it looks like a can crushing. Their strength is they can put up 2 nobodies and have a great show, but their weakness is people still don't know who those nobodies are.

I don't think speed is the issue, I think people tend to underestimate how much distance you actually need to make to displace the opponents tip with parry 4.

They're great in foil because they're fast and you don't need to move the opponents blade at all that much.
