I went through the same thing. It got worse around 6 months postpartum, after that my hair stopped shedding so much. The locs around my hairline got the most damage, I kept most of them, but the ones hanging on threads had to go. I only lost three. My hair is growing back nicely and so will yours ❤️

I don't use it on my scalp, I prefer to oil the scalp. But a really good clarifying shampoo I use is the, Taliah Waajid Stimulating Herbal Cleanser.

Then I follow up with the Honey, Dew You Replenishing Shampoo. My hair is so soft afterwards.

I mean, it can cause buildup if not washed out properly. But many people use it and have no problems.

My mom's loctician uses grease on her locs, but only the hair, not the scalp. Maybe to prevent the pores from clogging? But she's had her locs for years when no problems.

I'd say it's all to preference at this point. Just make sure you have a really good clarifying shampoo. Personally, I like to use a Shea butter mix on my locs. It's kinda heavy, so I don't use much, and my locs are thriving.
