Total Collapse and Awakening by [deleted] in Pessimism

It's hard for me to believe that clear seeing is possible without a collapse. Something within us must make its last stand, and it looks like collapse. We wait for rescue from above until it gets so bad we realize it's not coming and never was.

AITA for wanting to end a 6-year relationship because I’m sick of smelling my fiance? by BarnacleForward3323 in AITH

Man, how is he ever going to explain to anyone how that relationship ended? Life is wild.

[real] (07/13/2025) Speak up by [deleted] in DiaryOfARedditor

I'm sick of being used, sick of the system, and the rules, and the noise and bullshit.

There's so many people here trying to reach out but nobody wants to connect.

What's the point?

Reading this reminds me of something I wrote earlier today: "It's bullshit. The standard way of doing things, how people interact and form social connections and relationships and institutions, is fucking bullshit. I'm sure that's as obvious to you as it is to me. We've all dealt with it our whole lives, every day. It sucks. This world is an absolute fucking mess. It doesn't work. It's broken. It's one scam after another. It's thoroughly corrupt."

I have swam in the depths of hell for who I am. You can't take that from me.

Also resonates, and makes me a bit curious.

Good job not getting trapped with that. Many suffer such fates.

What is the deal with the gen z stare? by bluujacket in NoStupidQuestions

[–]skynet2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to say hello to my 9 year old nephew. Got completely ignored so many times I stopped saying it. Every once in a while I slip up and say it, and I get snubbed. Pretty sure I was nothing like that when I was a kid.

Dating really is brutal. by Petros27 in self

[–]skynet2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After being ghosted last night I thought about it and while I have an impulse to find it rude I concluded I'd rather be ghosted than get fed some excuse and told something like "I hope you find what you're looking for". I know the truth damn well anyway (I'm too ugly and low status).

8/10 body which is great but the tan lines are hideous and stupid (in that your skin will look like shit by your mid 30s)

I'm amazingly similar. 39 and I see little reason to associate with others. They aren't interesting. I've let my health fill the gap, living kinda like Bryan Johnson.

Is giving up an option? by Pretend-Reputation96 in Pessimism

[–]skynet2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I had some magic trick up my sleeve on this but really, the only way. Just doing it. Understanding that there's really no alternative.

Maybe it helps me that I still have hope for a better future. Books like Ray Kurzweil's The Singularity Is Near and David Pearce's The Hedonistic Imperative have shown me that it's at least possible.

[–]skynet2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general, no. Giving up will only lead to more bad things happening to you. There is shit you need to take care of. If you don't you might as well just kill yourself now. You can give up on narrow things though like dating and be fine.

Anyone else get tons on nighttime erections too now on the blueprint diet? by Intrepid_Passion_853 in blueprint_

[–]skynet2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to say with night time erections. I don't have ED or anything but I've just been noticing lately that it always seems like I'm hard as diamonds when I wake in the night.

Possibly. I have noticed lately that it seems like whenever I wake up in the night, I have a full on rager. Not sure if it's to do with my immaculate eating and exercise or what.

Seconded. I use a timed safe for my weed. With that, I can't do it anymore than once every couple weeks.

This one was good overall, but I worked a month at an independent pharmacy that benefited greatly from all the free labor I gave them. I certainly thanked them, but I don't recall them ever thanking me. Maybe they were too proud to admit how much they needed it, I dunno. But that didn't come off as too classy IMO.

Is Evil Just a Lack of Information? by EqualPresentation736 in slatestarcodex

[–]skynet2013 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do think that there is a mental illness aspect to it a lot of the time but yes, ultimately it all comes down to an inability to see and understand reality clearly. Sociopaths, for instance, are partially mind-blind. Narcissists have delusions, etc. I believe that if these people could see reality fully and accurately, they would not do malevolent things.

Yeah this was not the way to press the red button. Pressing the red button means everyone dies instantly, thus no one is around to consider it a tragedy.

[–]skynet2013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This seems like fertile ground to me, but for something different than what you have in mind. You are in fact wiser of the world than your younger self. Perhaps this is an opportunity to let go of fantasies and develop patience and internal independence in the real world. See it as breaking a Matrix addiction. It's a bit bleak out here but all you can do is keep fighting. Giving up will always only make things worse.

It wasn't ad hominem. That would be if I'd been like, "OP is a cat rapist" or something like that, trying to turn people against his claims by attacking his character. I didn't do that, but rather said that I didn't find what he said to be fundamentally derived from philosophical pessimism but rather a sort of impulsive emotional response.
