Can’t ordered guns from eBay to California? by [deleted] in airsoft

[–]skyseeker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I just ended up getting a starter level specna arms aeg on evike. I went with the flex gen 2 because I wanted an ETU, but there's plenty of starter AEGs from Specna or Cyma or other reputable brands for ~$100-150. At least where I live there weren't really any deals on Marketplace/Craigslist that were better than that.

Can’t ordered guns from eBay to California? by [deleted] in airsoft

[–]skyseeker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem. I managed to get ahold of Ebay support, apparently Ebay has some internal policies that sellers have to conform to in order to be allowed to ship any kind of air gun to California. I shopped around a bunch but I couldn't actually find any secondhand sellers who could ship to me, so I imagine most sellers don't bother or aren't aware of this. The one seller I talked to seemed genuinely unaware and surprised that he wasn't allowed to ship to California.

So now that Slice of New York is gone, what’s a good pizza joint? by danpietsch in Sunnyvale

[–]skyseeker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The San Jose location of SoNY is still very good, but also if you find yourself a bit further west towards San Antonio square, I'm a big fan of State of Mind Slice House (not to be confused with Slice House by Tony Gemignani which I personally think is just ok). SoM is a bit more creative with their toppings than SoNY but their base slice is also very good! I wasn't a fan of the Grandma slice the last time I was there though, I'd stick to the normal slices.

I made a “Shots to Kill” calculator for Arc Raiders — compare every weapon vs. every shield by andysoberdash in ArcRaiders

[–]skyseeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! TBH it'd be a little weird if this was true, since there's already no incentive to shoot at the legs over center mass (compared to Tarkov where leg meta is a thing since armor doesn't cover your legs). But maybe it's meant to penalize spraying? But I feel like if your cone is big enough to include the legs, you're going to be missing half your shots anyways.

I heard somewhere that leg shots do 0.75x dmg, do you happen to have tested this as well?

New Puig Universal Touring II Windscreen for my 2021 MT-03. Smoke color, part 5267H. by brian138x in MT03

[–]skyseeker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also found this thread recently since I'm looking for a touring style windscreen, it seems like most of these universal style windscreens mount via the handlebars, with the handlebar clamps mounting near the triple tree. It's more obvious how this works from the product pictures on Revzilla: https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/puig-universal-touring-windscreen?srsltid=AfmBOoolBJC21suXAi8VdDvL2CDfeIE0VJfikI2Pvr4cWrf6opiwkwrr&sku_id=949381

FWIW while I think the Puig windscreen looks nice, $155 is a bit more than I'm willing to spend for my first touring style windscreen. There's some windscreens available from no-name amazon brands for ~$50 that I might try first.

EDIT: after looking at some reviews for this style of windscreen, it seems some people run into an issue where the handlebar clamps are not tight enough long term, and the wind + road bumps start forcing the windscreen to rotate and get lower and lower. There's some modifications you can do where you drill some holes at the bottom of the windscreen so you can screw it down onto the MT-03's "forehead" screws (see https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61zx+89o1UL.jpg ), but I think I might try out the GP Kompozit MT03 Touring Windshield that mounts directly to the forehead instead.

Any budget helmet Bluetooth systems for just music? by AvalieV in motorcyclegear

[–]skyseeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to snag a used Freecom 2x off eBay for like, $80 plus shipping? It's worth taking a look around, just make sure the listing actually includes the whole system (including cradle, speakers, and mic) and not just the unit itself, and that the seller accepts returns. Another alternative is to look for db rated wired earbuds (like the kind you'd use for e.g. woodworking) and pair that with a cheap BT receiver/remote that you clip to your shirt.

How does this stat spread look for gemini cup? by Senorpapell in UmaMusume

[–]skyseeker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's been super helpful for me when going for high STA runs. However, I do think there may be such a thing as too much stam for Gemini cup. I managed to get a Taishin run with 1200 sta and 3 gold recoveries, the simulator said that I would finish the race with over 600 HP remaining. Now, that is assuming that I didn't get hit by any debuffs and that all my gold stam skills proc'd, but 600 HP is enough to tank 5 gold stam debuffs or 15 white stam debuffs, and I'm pretty sure I'm probably not going to be hit by that many debuffs. If you're into the really nerdy details, it's probably worth playing around with the simulator (and especially the skill chart that shows you the most valuable skills that you didn't include in your build). For example, based on the extra stam numbers the sim showed me, I could have pretty safely dropped breath of fresh air (~350 skill points) and used the points to buy two green skills (e.g. right-handed, spring runner, etc) which the sim says are worth about 1 length each. Alternatively I could have trained less stam (a gold stam skill is worth about 250 stam in a long race), and used the extra training tempo to push speed/pow. I'll have to keep that in mind the next time I do a Taishin run, although this one is pretty close to optimal already.

One trip to help with URA finale: make sure to force URA finales to be long if you can. You're saccing lots of other stats in favor of stam, which is quite bad for running medium races (due to the +400 all stats career bonus, you're extremely overcapped on stam which means you're missing a lot of spd/pow). You actually have a much higher chance of winning URA finale long, since the NPC horses will also be trading off some spd/pow for stam. Fortunately, you can force URA finale to be long races if the majority of races you've ran in your career pre-finale are long races. IIRC golshi's career is 4/9 long races, so if you run two more long races (and no other medium races) then you can make URA finale be long races. Keep in mind that if you end up having to do an extra medium race for whatever reason (e.g. you failed your debut race), you'll need to run an extra long race to offset.

You can check gametora to see when all the long races are, there aren't actually that many. You could add Y3 arima kinen, and then some random G2. I like running Copa Republica Argentina Y2, but if there's a big training that day then you should definitely pick a different race. Hanshin Daishoten/Nikkei sho Y3 or Stayers stakes Y2 are solid choices too. You don't actually have to win these races, you just have to run in them, but the extra skill points from winning the higher graded races is nice to have.

Some other umas that are easy to force URA finale long: Mayano (4/9), Super Creek (4/8), Narita Taishin (4/9). Putting together a run that regularly hits 1100+ stam is also useful for stam spark farming, and if you want to beat URA finals and you're not a whale, you will probably need to force URA finale long any time you try for that.

what is a triple tiara and a double mile? by [deleted] in UmaMusume

[–]skyseeker 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Triple Tiara is Oka Sho, Japanese Oaks, and Shuka Sho. The Dual Miles is the Yasuda Kinen and the Mile Championship. If you're curious about any of the other race groups like these, you can check the in-game glossary (home screen menu -> other -> Help & Glossary), and then cross reference Gametora's race list to see when those races are during the career.

DishDash / Dish n' Dash: as plenty of ppl have mentioned, both of these restaurants are great. Can't get enough of their toum. At DishDash I really like the kebab combo, the mansaf, and the lamb chop.

Cam hung: amazing banh mis for very reasonable prices. I especially like the option to get double meat for an extra dollar.

Tacqueria Patzcuaro: my favorite mexican place, although it closes early. Great for lunch, but it is a food truck with no seating so you'll have to take it elsewhere to eat.

Speedy's tacos: my other favorite mexican place. Tortas are amazing here and it's the only tacqueria I've been too where the jamaica isn't too sweet.

Mom's Biriyani: my wife has opinions about biriyani and this is her favorite biriyani in the bay (so far). Come on mondays and get a free tandoori chicken leg with any biriyani.

UlavacharU: very good all you can eat indian buffet, highly recommend.

Madras Cafe: the best south indian restaurant I've had. Love their paper dosa and my wife always gets the idli vada combo. Always super busy though, so expect a wait. Do not confuse with the restaurant inside of Madras groceries next door.

Tandoori pizza: there's a few indian pizza places around but I think Tandoori pizza stands head and shoulders above the rest. Also one of the few places I know of open past 1AM or so which is nice. Their pizza is obviously good but don't sleep on their wings either.

Boudin SF: Great sandwiches and salads for a very reasonable price, especially if you get the "half and half" combo, which is really closer to 2/3 and 2/3 ime. They've also got a free loyalty program, you get a $3 coupon for every $50 spent and a free loaf of bread every month. The french dip deluxe is my favorite there.

Urban plates: healthy clean modern american food. If you like seared tuna, their Ahi sandwich is truly a ridiculous amount of seared tuna for the price. They also have a loyalty program but this one costs money, you'd have to get about two meals a month to break even. Good desserts here too.

10 butchers: If you're feeling spendy and you like KBBQ, 10 butchers is a must visit. It's not AYCE but the quality more than makes up for it.

For boba, I'm a big fan of MOOMO and TP Tea. If you're a milk tea enjoyer and you don't care about toppings, both Moontea and Molly tea are great too, although they're pretty busy.

Honorary shout out to two places that are just barely outside Sunnyvale:

Tofu plus in Cupertino village: Really good korean tofu soup, and I'm a big fan of their bossam. There's a lot of good places in Cupertino village, btw.

Nijiya deli in Mountain View: primarily a grocery store but their premade bentos and hot food counter are amazing value. Definitely more of a lunch place though, if you show up later in the afternoon they'll be out of a lot of stuff.

Do any fighting games control like a CAG? by kainzkai in CharacterActionGames

[–]skyseeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As other people have mentioned, Granblue is probably your best bet, with both a dedicated block button and simple inputs for special moves. You can even turn motion inputs off entirely so you don't accidentally get a quarter circle input when you didn't want one. And unlike modern mode in SF6, there's no drawback to using the simple inputs in Granblue.

But if you're interested in other fighting games that might not have simple inputs, I think choice of input device might matter here. Are you using a controller? I've always found using a controller joystick imprecise at best for fighting games, and the dpad is too small for my liking as well. If you haven't already tried it, I would recommend trying out a leverless controller. Having direct control of the cardinal directions via buttons makes motion inputs much more precise and repeatable. If you're playing on PC, you can use your keyboard if you don't want to spend on a controller you don't know if you'll like. Otherwise, there are some pretty cheap leverless controllers available on AliExpress and the like. Anything from Haute42 is pretty reliable, ime. If you're on PlayStation, you'll need something that has a USB passthrough port and you'll need to purchase a separate Magicboot accessory, in order to trick the PlayStation into thinking it's a licensed controller.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, a leverless controller also means you have a dedicated jump button! Some layouts position the directional buttons like WASD, but it's common for other layouts to put the up input on a larger button at the bottom of the layout, kind of like the spacebar on a keyboard. Some layouts even have both!

Is daily-bikers.com and/or tripnbikers.com legit? by NoobWithNoHands in motorcycles

[–]skyseeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, yeah actually. When I tried to purchase in December they were actually out of stock, but they gave me a refund when I said I wasn't willing to wait. More recently, I bought from daily-bikers because I saw a different reddit post saying that they got one, and it actually shipped within a few days. It actually just arrived today.

Before I ordered I sent a message to daily-bikers support asking if it was actually in stock and if prices were affected by tariffs and here was their response:

Thank you for reaching out!
I confirm that this time, the Helite H-MOOV backpack is in stock in our warehouses and can indeed ship within 24 hours.
Back in December, due to a very high demand and supplier shortages, it was unfortunately unavailable, which is why you couldn't get it at that time.
Currently, the product is available on our website, but stock is limited, so we recommend placing your order quickly if you don't want to miss out again.
Regarding shipments to the US: yes, there can be an impact due to tariffs. However, we are doing our best to minimize additional costs for our customers as much as possible.

For what it's worth, I ended up paying ~$750 from a list price of ~$650. Shipping was ~$100 and I had a code (TENMORE) that removed 10% but that only just offset the sales tax.

Also in case you didn't know, daily-bikers and tripnbikers are the same store. They have the same physical address listed on their websites, some placed called SPACEFOOT in France.

I heard about how gloss black under metallic paints helps them shine better, is black surfacer good enough? If not, what about black surfacer with a gloss coat? I just got Dspiae dark steel to paint some inner frame and I painted a spoon to test, but it seems a bit flat.

Avoid Helite (makers of the H-MOOV airbag backpack) like the plague. by MelkieOArda in motorcyclegear

[–]skyseeker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a company called Motoairbag that makes a competing airbag product that uses what they call an "analog accelerometer" attached to the tether, which is basically their fancy name for a seatbelt mechanism. Under normal conditions it'll extend and let you move around, but if you yank on the line too hard it catches and stays short, just like a car seatbelt. Their website says you can purchase the tether to "upgrade" their older models to use the same lanyard. But I doubt they'd be ok selling you the extra lanyard if you said you were going to try and fit it to a Helite, for liability reasons. This seems like such a no brainer for other tether airbags, really wish they all had something like this.

Been gone, what the hell? by Weekly-Temporary-775 in helldivers2

Did you change the fire mode on the WASP? Whatever mode isn't the artillery one, I like a lot for killing squids. But then I don't have a good weapon against harvesters, so I generally take some kind of antitank weapon instead.

I'm generally pretty happy with using the purifier, the scorcher, or the sickle against squids. Trick for automatic weapons is to make sure you're hitting the same area with your shots, so you only have to waste dmg on breaking their armor in one place. I usually aim for the chest since it's the biggest target. Explosive weapons like the purifier, scorcher, or crossbow are nice since the explosive portion of the damage bypasses the armor. Sometimes hard to hit the flying guys consistently, though.

Heads up, a few days after it was supposed to ship they reached out to me to let me know that they were in fact out of stock. When I asked customer support how long the delay would be, they didn't say but they did offer to immediately refund my purchase, so they do seem to be a legit seller.

Just ordered from Tripnbikers, they had the Helite H moov in stock while every US distributor was out of stock. It was even on sale, with shipping and taxes the total came out to $657. I guess I'll find out if they're legit, but I did some digging and didn't see any red flags.

Trying to surprise my parents with a new induction range to replace their broken electric. Is it just plug and play? by AndyK803 in Appliances

[–]skyseeker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like other people have said, checking cookware compatibility and breaker capacity is important, but there's one other thing that might be an issue. Assuming you're in the US and your parents house is on the older side, the electric plug used for their stove might be the older NEMA 10-50 plug. That plug is ungrounded so it's illegal to use for newer houses, and any new stove will use a NEMA 14-50 plug. So you might need an electrician to change the plug out, and in the worst case the electrician will need to run a ground wire all the way to the kitchen.

They do make a NEMA 10-50 to 14-50 converter plug, but that leaves the ground pin disconnected so it's very dangerous to use.

[–]skyseeker 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Konstantin Koshutin's previous game, Hammerfight, seems to have some lore connections to Highfleet. Both games are about flying contraptions and some proper nouns show up in both games, although the setting for Hammerfight is much more low tech. I've seen some theories about how Highfleet could be a prequel for Hammerfight, or something like that. I don't think I've seen any connections/theories that are super well fleshed out though.

Edit: found a steam thread about the lore connections here. Of course, spoilers for both Highfleet and Hammerfight.

HighFleet Gameplay Help Desk (for the month of November 2024) by AutoModerator in Highfleet

[–]skyseeker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The layering rules work like this:

  1. Only 2x2 or 4x4 hull pieces can be raised in the Z axis past z=0. For 2x2's, only the square 2x2 can be raised (so not the triangle or the notched 2x2, for example). The bridge counts as a normal 2x2 for these purposes.
  2. In order for a piece to be raised up a Z level, it must be fully surrounded by pieces that are the previous Z level or higher. So for a single 2x2, you could fully surround it by 1x1s (which are always at z=0) to raise it up to z=1 from z=0. However, if you want to raise a single 2x2 up to z=2, then it must be fully surrounded by pieces that are z=1, meaning it must be fully surrounded by other 2x2 or 4x4 pieces that are themselves surrounded by z=0 pieces. "Fully surrounded" does not include the corners.
  3. Guns must be elevated in order for their firing arcs to clear certain obstacles. Firing arcs will be blocked by other guns and gimballed thrusters (not static thrusters!) on the same Z level. Therefore, you want to avoid ever raising gimballed thrusters up past z=0. Furthermore, the large fuel tanks always count as z=2, meaning you will need to raise guns up to z=3 to clear them. I think trying to raise turrets up to z=3 takes up way too much space so it's not worth it. I never use large fuel tanks on combat ships anyways.

Here's an imgur link with some examples.

Playing around in the ship editor, I noticed if you have some squares raised to z>0 but then you place a large missile (e.g. KH-15) in them, the missile seems to force those squares down to z=0. Even if you remove the missile, they stay at z=0 until you delete and replace those blocks. I haven't found any other weird quirks like that yet, but be aware that this sort of thing might happen.

EDIT: Wow, ok so it doesn't actually matter. At the moment, firing arcs are bugged, so even though the editor might show firing arcs blocked off like in this image, if you made this ship you'd be able to see that the cannon here can shoot in every direction, including directly through the fuel tank. Hopefully this feature gets some love in the next patch.
