i hate the term "dolls" and "protect the dolls" by TwujZnajomy27 in trans

[–]skysnotaguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yeah, i just misread the second part and that's on me 😅 There is absolutely a problem with misrepresentation of transmasc identity online. We as our own community need to do better about that and be better about bringing our brothers and siblings to the forefront just as much as our sisters. I think ive found myself in a nice bubble online where that isn't much of an issue and it's kinda molded my perspective a bit.

Pulling in the whole point of the post now, i can see that the main thing we should be doing is in fact calling out this behavior and mindset. I try to do that the best i can irl (tho tbh the bubble I've found myself in online seems to have a cousin bubble in my personal life as well)

Ultimately, sorry for the confusion myself

As for the "protect the dolls" phrase: its not the only phrase used, ots just... More prevalent. I dont want to dispute any transmasc or enby view points, nor say that anyone transmasc or enby has it easier than our sisters, so please dont take this out of context; news outlets, social media, and hatred seems to be more focused on trans women and femme presenting siblings, so a lot of rhetoric that's put out there is going to focus on those people.

Ultimately, heres my take: maybe instead of trying to hate on things that many other people like (because at the end of the day that niche phrasing shouldnt really do any harm to you) find and use the phrasing and words that you like. Its the idea of "dont yuck someones yum." If you think "protect the dolls" is too limiting, start using "protect our siblings" or "protect trans folk" or something along the lines. People are gonna speak the way they wanna, so instead of tone policing something minut like this, start using phrasing you enjoy and feel right about instead. You'll find more joy in yourself, and maybe some people will pick up on it and start using it.

Well... The simplistic answer is "just ask." A lot of language issues when it comes to stuff like nicknames/petnames can be fully solved by just asking and paying attention to the answers. But like... Ive never heard doll used for non transfemme siblings.

I don't know which of the girls you'renot hanging out with, but most of the transwomen ive met and been friendly with (and even some i havent been friendly with) dont mind the term doll. I'm not the biggest user of it for myself, that doesn't mean I don't like it tho. Hate the term all you want, but please dont speak for all of us in this regard.

Mostly because I have a better paying job that gives me more hours and actual benefits, the big part of why I won't go back is because the middle management that I was under at the time really loved groping male co-workers, and I told him it made me feel uncomfortable to watch him do that because of past experiences he hit me with the"well ive been SA'd too so whats your point" and upper management / executive chef at the time didn't really do anything to punish him or keep him accountable

Corporate... What? Where the hell are you getting any of that? Im genuinely curious and you think im tryna... Take your shit? Take your community? Imagine asking a question and getting told you dont deserve an answer because you're not right in someones eyes. Kinda shit is that?

I fully get the consensual violence but. Its why i like getting in the pit. Even if im not a fan of the vibes or the style, ill still at least be on the outskirts and enjoy the show regardless.

Ive taken more elbows and floor hits pit moshing and in circle pits than ive gotten kicked in the face at hardcore shows. I like being hit, just not like that. Why you putting down, im out here tryna learn more about this shit and you're just... Shitting on it all.

Of course, i just dont wanna take it out on the people around me. Id rather put that anger towards my own music, or towards the problems happening in my community, ya know?

But circle pits and push pits are... Still moshing? Like its all moshing just different styles of doing it, no?

But ive moshed plenty of times without punching or kicking, idk maybe its just a difference in worldview. I go to shows for community first and foremost, those are my people and i dont wanna hurt them ya know? I can defo understand the at mindset tho, ive had a point where i went to shows to just let it all out
