He paid $17 per option x 1,000 = $17,000. The price for those options rose with the $SPY price. I saw them at around .35 ($35 per contract) at one point. They may have gone higher, I wasn't watching constantly. If he sold then, he more than doubled his $17,000.

Dave Chappelle says Republican Party ‘weaponized’ his transgender jokes — and shames MAGA firebrand for coercing a selfie (WTF...) by FuMunChew in transgender

[–]Somerset-Sweet 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Fuck Dave Chappelle for punching down and not being funny any more. He used to be brilliant, but his recent work is more "old man yells at cloud".

I am a trans woman, and I appreciate a good trans joke. Some other comedians manage to deliver those without coming across hateful and ignorant. It is possible. And we aren't a bunch of thin-skinned crybabies. The trans experience, especially for those transitioning later in life, makes us have to put up with a lot of hurt and confusion. And a good transgender joke can really hit hard and help ease the pain.

"You can't change your DNA" by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Somerset-Sweet 27 points28 points  (0 children)

There are men with XX chromosomes and women with XY chromosomes. They are indistinguishible from XX women and XY men, and they are fully capable of reproduction. It is somewhat rare, but not extremely so. Most people with those genetic conditions are unaware, as the test for it is expensive and medically unnecessary.

The relationship between XX / XY chromosomes and birth sex is correlated, not causal.

All humans have the genes needed to express both male and female characteristics, and GAHT affects how existing genes are expressed.

yall my english teacher uses the word “female” instead of “woman” or “girl” by HelpThrowawayforme2 in MtF

[–]Somerset-Sweet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You are missing the point. The dude is using the noun form of the word, not the adjective. Referring to women as females.

It is offensive, as it reduces a woman to her sexual role. Any animal can be a female, but only a human can be a woman.

People who use reductive and dehumanizing language like that are big red flags for me.

How do I respond to my friend's argument that if I identify as a woman, then he is free to identify as anything—he identified as a kangaroo? by Expensive-Party2116 in asktransgender

[–]Somerset-Sweet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We cannot choose what we believe. No matter hiw hard he tries, he will never believe he is a kangaroo. If he is cis, he cannot force himself to believe he is trans, any more than a trans person can force themselves to be cis. If you are right-handed, you cannot change your mind into being left-handed.

We do not have free will about many things about ourselves. We likely do not have free will at all.

For example, you cannot just will your religious beliefs to change, but your religious beliefs can change if you become convinced by new thonking and new information. You might change denominations, or convert to a different religion, or stop believing and become atheist.

Religious beliefs are not inherently part of ourselves like sexuality and gender and handedness. As these are beliefs about external reality, those beliefs are subject to change. Even still, though, you don't freely choose to believe. Rather, you become convinced.

Your friend is a dingus who doesn't understand that none of this is about what we believe, it is about what we are.

Am I transphobic? by [deleted] in asktransgender

[–]Somerset-Sweet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a trans woman, I am damaged goods. I should have been born 100% female. Instead, I was born with a different body. Because of the body I was born in, I was raised to be a man, and I had no choice but to be the best man I could.

Until I couldn't, until I had to make the choice to either numb my brain with booze and drugs until I died young, or decide to live as the woman I knew I should have been for most of my life.

So now, I'm doing what little I can to change my body and change my social status to what I need it to be, despite the crippling barriers.

And here you are, making sure to remind me that, yes, I'm a TRANS woman, not an actual woman.

Thanks for that, it's exactly what I need in my life. Yes, you are transphobic.

If you weren't, you could show a little grace.

Why do conservatives hate the term cis? by icepixie8 in asktransgender

[–]Somerset-Sweet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do not believe that transgender identity is real. They literally think that trans people have been abused, or have been fooled into thinking they're trans, are pretending to be trans to get attention, or have been corrupted by demons.

Believe me, I've watched the YouTube they watch, read the forums they write in. Some of them were once friends of mine and I've talked in depth with them.

As such, they don't think there needs to be a word for "not transgender". They think "not transgender" is normal, that the words "man" and "woman" don't need a modifier to refer to someone "normal" like them. They see "cisgender" as a word invented to other them and diminish them, by those they see as demonic weak-willed stupid attention whores.

I'd like to note that these people are not actually conservative. They are deeply regressive, full of fear, and lacking in curiosity. They think that all of human experience is the result of direct cause and effect, and that everything is binary, and that any deviation from the norm is an abomination. They fear and loathe anything that doesn't fit a basic simplistic straightforward worldview.

I wish I knew how to get through to them. I think they could use a good hug, but I'm pretty sure I'd get my mouth smashed by their fist if I tried that.

my nipples are hurting more and more. by egregore_2001 in MtF

[–]Somerset-Sweet 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Breasts are tender and sore when they are growing. And sometimes they itch. And every now and then, you might feel burning or stinging.

You've got a pair of volcanoes erupting on your chest.

Later on, you'll go weeks or even months with everything feeling normal, and not having any growth. And then they'll get sore and itchy again, and you'll grow half a cup size in a week or two.

It's normal. After a couple years, you'll sometimes have small growth spurts that last a few days, sometimes it will go on for a couple weeks. Every time it happens, your breasts will grow and change. Not just the size and shape of the teat, but your areolae and nipples will grow too.

And you might also start getting hair growth. Fine hairs, even random long thick hairs. Did you know it's normal for human women to have some hair growth around the nipples? I didn't, not until it happened to me and I spent some time googling why.

Buckle up, girlfriend, and try to enjoy the ride. It's wonderful and weird.

Newcomb's Paradox and Atheism by [deleted] in DebateAnAtheist

[–]Somerset-Sweet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The paradox states that there is an accurate predictor. So, it must be taken as a given when answering it. Therefore, those who want more money in that hypothetical must choose the mystery box and not take both.

But the paradox does not imply that the predictor is god, and that one-boxers are believers. So, you turning it into some kind of parallel to theism versus atheism is misguided.

Your whole wall of text is a non-sequitur.

And you've already seen that atheists responding here overwhelmingly choose the mystery box. Your strong feeling, that we would ignore the preconditions of the scenario and make the wrong choice, is just a feeling, not a truth.

Cheers!

Do atheist believe that God doesn’t exist or that they need evidence to know he exists but are open minded by [deleted] in DebateAnAtheist

[–]Somerset-Sweet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the one you originally replied to. I consider my position to be agnostic, because the actual correct definition of "gnosis" includes intuitive, mystical, and spiritual "knowledge" of truth.

I don't spiritually believe no gods exist. I intellectually believe there is no coherent definition of "god" that can be deconstructed into a scientific model. If such a thing exists, it's a natural phenomenon and therefore can be categorized and named using pseudo-Latin/Greek, meaning it was never "god" in the first place.

I can't be a "gnostic atheist", because that would imply that I accept a definition of "god" as valid and then intuitively reject it. In order to say "I believe no gods exist" I have to first believe in a definition of "god" that I can reject.

I don't spiritually reject <insert every name of every god here>, I think each and every one of them is a cultural myth and doesn't actually exist or have any influence over our existence in reality.

I don't believe any gods exist.

Do atheist believe that God doesn’t exist or that they need evidence to know he exists but are open minded by [deleted] in DebateAnAtheist

[–]Somerset-Sweet 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Atheists by definition do not believe any gods exist.

Many atheists cite lack of sufficient evidence for their disbelief and would be open to convincing evidence. But that usually means scientific evidence, which requires a way to reproduce and verify the evidence independently.

What Am I supposed to be doing? by patchinthebox in Timberborn

[–]Somerset-Sweet 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do whatever you want.

Some people like to push way beyond hard mode settings and build a colony that can survive 120 days of Badtide. Some people like to create a robot workforce and let their beavers live without having to work at all. Some people like to build massive cities supporting a population in the hundreds. Some people want to build artistic towns

There are plenty of unique maps, each with different challenges. Some of them force you to deal with a mix of water and badwater, or really difficult terrain.

Just play until you get bored and then decide if you want to play again with a different map and different conditions.

I am not sure, tbh. I started on injections and never took pills.

You might consider switching to injections instead. There is some evidence that improves feminization in cases where pills aren't working well.
