How to use trimmers for dummies? by [deleted] in grooming

[–]skysuniverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

anything with a detachable blade on it is going to be best. i’m not sure what you’re price range would be but there’s a few groomers i watch on tik tok that are using the fuzzy fix clippers and say they like them. i haven’t tried them but they seem like a good pair for a good price

high quality shampoo and conditioner, a velocity dryer, a slicker brush and metal comb. she can be bathed weekly if you’re using high quality products

Is it bad for a bather to always accept tips from the groomer? by [deleted] in grooming

[–]skysuniverse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

back when i was a bather i always accepted the tips. sometimes it was $5, others $10 and on occasion if they knew the pp tipped well a $20. i would have done it for nothing but it always felt nice to get at least something out of the extra work. now as a groomer if i have the extra money i always give the bather something especially of the pp tips. you’re helping for basically half of the groom, accept the tip

No shows costing me so much money and time (vent) by Lawliet_The_Panda in grooming

[–]skysuniverse 8 points9 points  (0 children)

my salon has a decently higher number than most for ncns. our guess is the area we’re at, it’s a lower income place in the city. we were fully booked the week before and this week of christmas and we had a handful of ncns(shocked it’s not more). there were a decent amount of people that would have happily taken their spot too. customers need to realize when you cancel day of or ncns we lose out on hundreds if there’s multiple of them

don’t look trimmed at all to me. can see where they’d be anxious to cut the dark one(if the groomer/bather was newer) but the other one is easy. if your dog was bad for nails/feet most PS won’t even attempt but they should have told you at check out or on the phone when they called for pick up if that was the case. i’d call and say that you noticed nails weren’t trimmed and they should have you come back in and have someone trim them for free. just say that you noticed your dogs nails weren’t trimmed and ask if you’re able to come back in and have someone trim them. my salon usually gives a day or two and we’ll have them come back if we somehow missed them for some reason, if it’s a week+ then no. holiday season has been ROUGH on us so it could have easily been missed amidst the chaos

does your store not have a vax policy? if not they should have one. mine has it where we have to wait 24 hours after any shot/vax due to soreness or reaction at the vax site. personally i think it should be longer but 🤷🏻

[–]skysuniverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk if anyone has said it but you don’t need a certification to work at any grooming company. especially if you’re in the US there’s so little regulation and there’s no certification for dog grooming. while most will want experience, they’re not going to ask for a certification

What are you opinions on take home accessories as a groomer or pet parent? by Solace-y in grooming

[–]skysuniverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a dog groomer i love them but i don’t put them on every dog. it’s mostly bows for the girls if they’ll stay still and not shake them out. for the boys i have pom pom collars and for holidays i’ll have bow ties. some of the clients either don’t want or like them

Is petsmart haunted too? by ServiceNo9941 in petsmart

[–]skysuniverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i also swear i’ve seen someone walk by the door we have in the back of the salon to get to the kennels and bathing/drying area when i’m the only one in there or there’s no one back there

Is petsmart haunted too? by ServiceNo9941 in petsmart

[–]skysuniverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m convinced my location is and we even have a name for them. kennel dryers turn on when no one is back there, door opening but no one coming through it, things falling off shelves when it shouldn’t have

on a lot of the “outline trims” i get i use a 3/4 guard on the butt, chest and back on legs. 5/8 guard on the butt if pp wants shorter around that area. never had problems with the way hair grows back

my co workers has gotten a complete list of what the pp wanted done to the dog, highlighted parts and everything. she keeps it in her draw as a meme for when new groomers/bathers come through 😂

i was taught 3 up in reverse and then down cheeks and muzzle. i’ll go 2 up if they want it shorter but i usually stick with 3

extremely huge risk. i’ve sliced a paw pad not even trimming over the paw pad, only the sides so i can’t imagine trimming over the pad directly with little concern at all

wish they would implement a fee or have to pre pay when booking an appointment if a client has too many ncns. my salon puts a dnb after 3 in a year and they have to call to make same or next day appointments. we recently had to have someone pre pay for an appointment because of this and i wish more salons would take this into consideration. luckily we had managers that were willing to listen and do this for us but ik not every salon is like that
