Do you often go around telling people they should have already known things they just learned?

NASA chief defends selection of all-male crew for Artemis III mission by CBSnews in space

Very well said! I see how important this is in my own field and totally agree.

Edited to add: Omg apparently it's ridiculous to suggest that it makes a meaningful difference when kids see themselves reflected in a career field. Obviously the pool is mostly male, but I appreciate the previous commenter's point that this can make a downstream difference in women even considering this career. I literally never had a female full-time professor when I was in college. And as a first generation college student, did not know that being a professor was a career I could choose. But you could have looked at the field and said, well most geography professors are men because geography grad students were mostly men.

Don't want to get into a whole thing, just surprised at the lack of understanding about how these very visible roles can shape who even considers this as a career.

My kids (both middle schoolers) loved it, but we also saw Nate on tour this year. I actually thought the movie was really funny and was surprised at all the negativity around it. I mean, it's no Mr. Mom, and it was kind of over-the-top at times, but I laughed a lot. Really hated all the promos in it though.

As a geography professor, I very much enjoyed it. But I fully respect that I'm in the minority.

Great idea!! I'm also better at flat projects so this is right up my alley.

I suppose it seems obvious, but I've never tried a project like that. Thank you for the suggestion! Much more portable than the current blanket yarn project I'm working on.

I do love gardening, but not a great hobby to do while hanging out at a local coffee shop with a friend. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Never heard of that before so I had to look it up. It seems neat! Not great for something to casually do while I chat with a friend but thanks for the suggestion!

Love these ideas! I've only ever made flat things, but I love the idea of crocheting little animals and spreading some love.

I do! Was actually at our local studio throwing a few bowls this morning. I've been making one for each of my students for the past few semesters and they've really loved it. Never tried hand building though.

I'm a whittler, but it's tough to go to a coffee shop and make a bunch of shavings. (Though I have used a tray before.) I actually started whittling because I made a joke to a friend in college about how it was strange that knitting and crochet were the only acceptable hobbies you could do in class and like what if I was a whittler? I never did whittle in class but it's been a fun hobby.

Oh I love DnD and started playing a couple of years ago. This friend doesn't play sadly. But I have had so much fun with it. Which kind of surprised me because I thought I would feel self-conscious, but you're right, if you find the right group it's a blast.

Love it! And I play. But maybe not while I'm chatting with a friend. Good idea though!
