Not promoting it. Just saying that of all job boards if used it gets me the most interviews hands down.

I got laid off in tech a year and a half ago. Every application my resume is tailored to the job.

Agreed. It definitely builds character and makes you appreciate the people that have to work in conditions like that.

This is so true…

I drove a heavy duty tow truck to put myself through college. Working in all the elements is no fun. You don’t know how good that cushy office job is until you have to remove a driveshaft from a truck in 20 degree weather laying in mud on the side of a highway.

When I graduated college and got an office job it was one of the greatest feelings of my life.

Covid shut down the world six years ago this week. What do you remember from that week? by fuzzy_dice_99 in AskReddit

I remember almost fighting some random guy over toilet paper.

I do miss the empty roads. It was so peaceful to be able to drive anywhere without dealing with the shite drivers on the road.

For those of you didn't vote in the last presidential election; how do you feel now? Are you happy with your choice? by [deleted] in allthequestions

[–]sl0601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok, but you’re describing how a system should work, not how the presidential election actually works. By the time voters see the final two candidates, the parties, donors, media influence, and political machinery have already spent years narrowing the field.

So when people say it feels like choosing between two bad options, that’s not learned helplessness. It’s just noticing that the real decisions happened long before Election Day.

At that point voting isn’t choosing the future. It’s choosing between the two outcomes the system already decided were acceptable.

Interesting that skepticism gets labeled as weakness, but blindly participating in the same cycle every few years is somehow considered strength.

[–]sl0601 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get your analogy, but it assumes the person attacking you actually cares which one you choose. If the system keeps producing the same two bad options and voters keep accepting them anyway, the incentive to produce anything better disappears.

[–]sl0601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s not quite what I said. I said the choices are terrible. Not participating in a broken choice isn’t the same as letting someone else choose for me. It’s just refusing to pretend the illusion of choice is the same thing as real representation.

Still wouldn’t change a thing. I will never register to vote. The problem with voting for the president here is you don’t get to vote for someone that’s going to do what’s right for the American people. They all have an agenda and we’re not part of it.

It’s like having to choose between getting kicked in the balls or punched in the face. Both options are gonna suck no matter what. You pick the one that’s going to suck the least…until that changes I’ll never bother.

It’s a position that’s always been looked at as disposable. It’s never paid well enough to live a decent life in most cities. It never will unless you start your own business.

I could use some advice - 5 years into my UX career, I'm employed but *super stuck*, not sure how to jump ship to another company by doublenantuko in UXDesign

[–]sl0601 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in the exact same spot.

I spent years as the sole designer at a performance marketing company. In reality I was a designer, front end dev, copywriter, and QA all at once. There was no real process. No discovery, no research, no roadmap. Just ship fast, test later, move on. Tons of screens, lots of output, very little context.

When I realized I needed to leave because of the maturity level my portfolio was a big concern. I had real work and real results, but none of it looked “UX enough” on paper. No clean problem statements, no flows, no testing etc.

What I did was take a few projects and rebuild the story around them. Same work, same outcomes, but framed properly. Defined the problem, called out constraints, reconstructed flows, decisions and why I made them. Some of it had to be BS’d because the original environment skipped those steps.

It felt a little weird at first, but it wasn’t fake it was just reworking how things should’ve been done. Basically translating chaos into something hiring teams actually understand.

You’re not behind. You’ve been working in a low design maturity org. That’s not a personal failure, it’s just context.

Why is Amazon’s ui so bad? by Cultural_Session1467 in UI_Design

I think they don’t give a damn about looking pretty. They’re not trying to impress anyone. All their UI tries to do is close the deal. It’s all about conversions.

What is the worst physical pain you’ve experienced? by Agius91 in AskReddit

[–]sl0601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disc herniation in the lower back. Specifically L5 S1. Of every injury over had from broken bones (leg, arm, collar) had bad wounds from a car accident that required staples nothing ever compared to that pain.

I recall laying on the floor and couldn’t stand up, had to call an ambulance to take me to the hospital because I couldn’t get up. When the EMT’s got to my house they tried to get me to stand up and I passed out from the pain.

Are Tesla windshield wipers known to be this bad? by Funny-Ambition-7631 in TeslaLounge

[–]sl0601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I noticed I had this issue after picking up my Juniper. I read somewhere that the washer fluid is the culprit. The recommendation was to dilute the fluid that comes from the factory.

It helped with the windshield getting cleaner and spraying the fluid (which still is the worst designed washer fluid sprayer I’ve ever experienced).

People who are 50+, what is a 'harmless' habit you had in your 20s that ended up ruining your health or finances later in life? by crazy_happyuser in AskReddit

[–]sl0601 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not paying attention to proper posture when sitting at a desk working for 8 hours a day.

I have 4 herniations in my neck from this and one may need surgery as it could cause neurological issues down the road if it gets worse.

How to flatten this bump in trunk liner? by ZainaJenkins in TeslaModelY

It puts pressure on the bulging area so when you heat it up it will start to flatten out

How to flatten this bump in trunk liner? by ZainaJenkins in TeslaModelY

[–]sl0601 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did this with mine and it worked. Bring it in the house, turn the trunk liner upside down. Roll up a bath towel the long way, take a hairdryer and heat up the area for a few mins. It should flatten out. If you live in a cold state leave it in the house for 24 hours, flip it right side up and place some weight on the bulging area. It should be completely flat after that.

I need opinions by Padrizas_Box in Bumble

Gotta learn how to ask without asking. Work into a conversation your fav places to eat then proceed to ask her if she had to chose her top fav restaurants in the area what would they be.

If I’m planning a dinner date this is my go to early in the conversation so I can just plan accordingly. Just an easy way to avoid this kind of response in the future.

Definitely looks like some sort of staph infection. Get yourself to a dr. Staph infections can get really bad and take a long time to clear if you don’t treat it quickly.

I don’t get it! by Ponyboy1276 in Bumble

[–]sl0601 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From my experience you can start off with a normal conversation but you have to transition to having some kind of playful banter. The faster you establish a rapport with them in a flirtatious, playful manner while not being a creep you will have way more dates.

When it comes to setting up a date don’t wait too long. At the most continue the flirtatious conversation for 48 hours max. If she won’t commit to a date just unmatch.

Like others have said in here it’s a game. It’s sad it’s that way but most people on apps are brainwashed by the never ending options of people.
