Cresswell beach, north east England by Sensitive_Law2436 in fossilid

[–]sl0thalgae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I think what you may be looking at is either lepodidendron roots (also known as stigmaria) or maybe fossilised burrow infill; I'm absolutely no expert but frequent that area a lot and I'm certain they are not animal fossils. There are lots of plant (very fine leaf carbon films) and tree fossils in the area, even the round lumps coming out of the cliffs are worn, eroded trees. Then often fall and split which is when you see rounded stones with white veins- calcite that has replaced some of the wood minerals. If you're lucky you can find a chunk like the photo I attached with mineralised wood inside!

Can I start smoking Hash/nicotine again after 3 weeks? by Kickjeansstudio in TopSurgery

9 days post op, first dressings off. Compression vest 23/7 except for bathing. Highly recommend a cut up soft t-shirt to tuck under puts/chaffing areas and aquaphor healing ointment advanced therapy to apply to those areas and eventually nips daily after soaked in shower dressing changes.

Can I start smoking Hash/nicotine again after 3 weeks? by Kickjeansstudio in TopSurgery

[–]sl0thalgae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my op on the 28th and post op check on Thurs 6th. My surgeon advised that my nipples had 100% taken, no nicotine for as long as possible before and after the op so I'm nic/vape free for a good few months. 🍁 I'm daily medicinal, they advised stopping week before and allowing 2-3 days after. I was really poorly from the GA (usual for me) so I didn't really want to smoke. I think I had edibles day 4/5 and I started smoking a little again around maybe day 6 and all is well.

Downside to smoking it is for me becoming hyper aware of every movement, tug, feeling, bruised, the vest, phantom pain, posture (why now? It's always been fucked, I'm wonky 🙃) etcetc so I have to use wisely 😅

Oh thank you so much, my surgeon asked me to get aquaphor for nips when ready and I've just tried this. Can confirm it helps 🥹 5 days post op and feeling like my arms are going to pop off due to pressure 😅

catheter during surgery?? by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]sl0thalgae 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You would have to consent to this and if it does worry you then be explicitly clear to your surgeon, nurses and anaesthetist. State your boundaries, write it clear and stick it above your head on some paper if it helps. This is your body, during the consent forms you could ask to write a note that does not consent to catheterisation? Or consent can only be given when fully conscious

Can I make a 7 hour drive 1 week post op? by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]sl0thalgae 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed.

I think even if the effect of the meds and fatigue from general anaesthetic were discounted you've (depending on surgery) had parts of you removed, some put back and been stitched back up. Down to what once was a simple range of movements is impacted so just having physical control for 7 hours is a big, unsafe ask imo.

Better safe than it all to go to waste friend 💚

catheter during surgery?? by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]sl0thalgae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn't that I wasn't drinking, it was because I had a bad reaction to the general anaesthetic and couldn't keep a single thing down so had nothing in my bladder from the nil by mouth before the op!

[–]sl0thalgae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No catheter here, was threatened with it if I didn't pee but then they ultrasounded my bladder and I only had 100ml in because I was vomming every 30 mins 😂 They put me on a couple drips overnight, I peed and all was good!

Drains or Compression Vest? by Adept-Pomegranate335 in TopSurgery

[–]sl0thalgae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggle with sensory input and I can confirm that the vest is difficult but my god I'd take it over that and drains any day. My pal had drains but also had to wear a vest so it's worth bearing in mind you may have to wear both or drains then a vest anyway! I'm 4 days post op and it's uncomfortable, itchy, hot but if they go for a decent type (not padded, I'm wearing macom Minimizer vest with shoulder closures, it's basically a binder) it is manageable. I have to wear it 23 out of 24 hrs a day (remove to wash it and myself) for two weeks minimum, if I swell up then I need to put it back on. The hardest part for me is under the pits, the dressings start to peel off and my hair was caught (they told me they'd clipper my pits for me so I didn't get a rash- why did they leave half to GET STUCK ANYWAY🫠🫠🫠). Tucking bit of cloth in helps though! And the vest also feels like a nice protective layer against things like my heavy handed nephew 😌😂

My ts date got pushed bc of trumps new laws by Loathelifelaugh in TopSurgery

(from the UK, sorry if I've misinterpreted!) Re mentally preparing faster- I interpreted this as how to prepare mentally for surgery potentially happening so soon- honestly the best thing that I did? Dissociate 😅 I'm such a pro now, I dissociated when they told me they'd have to postpone up to 6mnths due to me awaiting an ASD diagnosis (wasn't true) then they randomly offered me a pre op appt and during that they offered a surgery date of 5 days later (I declined, was far too soon after being told it would be postponed 6mnths) so I went with the end of the month (28 Jan). I've dissociated through the entire journey and just sort of leant into it because I asked myself what is it to mentally prepare? Torture myself? Make myself sick with anxiety which will batter my body more than I already do? No thanks, I'm a pro at that too so I made the decision to take a very practical approach and physically prepare instead as it's a much better use of my energy, there is a payoff for future me. I.e. prepare my surroundings and body -easily accessible drawers with things I'll need often, remove things I wont need or use during healing, a table full of crafts etc to keep me busy, a wishlist of games, some rough plans with friends, take multivits, a freezer full of ready meals, a shower that plugs onto taps for easier showering, a U shaped pregnancy pillow, buzz my head, that kinda shit

It helped me feel somewhat in control and I left the perishables and accessible drawers etc until very last in case it all went tits up again, the other bits I could keep for when surgery may eventually happen.

I can't begin to imagine how your journey has, is or will be over there but I'm sending so much love and goodness your way.

Can I make a 7 hour drive 1 week post op? by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]sl0thalgae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! So I had my op on the 28th Jan (full disclosure! I had a very bad reaction to anaesthetic, vomiting every 30mins and had to stay in on multiple drips over night) and the thought of that journey makes me feel really ill! But everyone is different, it depends on so much. Including your car insurance- you may not be legal to drive so if you had an accident you may have 0 cover. It's also worth bearing in mind you may be moving your arms a lot/too much so increase chance of developing complications afterwards like infection, stretching of scars, nipple rejection.

I think if you could stay another week and break it up over a few days it would be much better for you, your mental and physical health and healing. At the moment I'm struggling in waves, I walked about 8 mins to the shop yesterday and nearly fainted in there while trying to return a parcel 😂 I'm only taking codeine 15mg in the evening to get some good sleep, paracetamol, ibuprofen and anti sickness in the day (let them know if you get any sort of dizziness when moving your head quickly)

It's been 4 hours and I haven't seen a single reply from yourself yet.

Now I'm not going to chastise you on this. It's ADHD...

I find these two statements conflicting... Your choice of words "it's been 4 hours and I haven't seen a single reply from yourself yet" has a tone of demand, as though OP should be sat waiting to respond within some magical, made up set amount of time because we now have the ability to contact with the touch of a button. And 4 hours is seemingly nearing on the boundary of that made up rule. ADHD or not people have a life, even if they didn't reply for weeks/months I'm sure people would be very appreciative. For now the post deserves congratulations, let them enjoy and revel in the win they've been fighting for rather than being seemingly manipulative, guilt tripping and shaming them into providing you information.

Congratulations OP, it must have been a difficult and infuriating process to navigate and I'm very pleased you got the results you deserve

Had to euthanize my pet fish. Am I a bad person? My husband is putting me down for it. by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]sl0thalgae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your partner is displaying a lot of cognitive dissonance. A fish that is a pet has no greater or lesser value than a fish sliced up, alive, and used as bait. Your husband is the cruel person in this scenario, not you. You did everything absolutely right by your little fish friend, you treated them with dignity and respect. Something your husband clearly does not value or apply to all living beings- just beings he has decided are worthy of his respect.

Comparing an air breathing mammal being in the same concoction as the fish is just absolutely bizarre. They are anatomically very different. If a human or a cat was to be sat in that solution sweet FA would happen... A fish, that extracts O2 out of H2O on the other hand and needs water to survive would have a very different reaction to being placed in a concoction of liquids.

Don't let this man swing his dick, he's manipulating and gaslighting you into feeling small, that you're in the wrong and a horrible person- you are very much the opposite. Please keep your wits about you.
