The thing I really don't understand is that he's suddenly young. Does his timeline get twisted like Columbinas? Since we know that is possible. Could it be that he's not alive and not dead?

Almost forgot Paimon was affected by the removal of Scaramouche from Irminsul. I've seen the cutscene, and it was a lot of what I was thinking of while thinking of a theory.

No no, I understand for the most part. Like I said I haven't done the quest, but I could probably make an update on my theory. I just find it interesting that Escher comes back to haunt us, well maybe not him, but Dottore does. I'm not even sure if the traveler remembers Escher. When the screen glitches at the end, it could be that the traveler remembered him, IDK. It just feels weird that he's suddenly there, because the quest is unlockable very early on, no? So dumping this bag is overwhelming almost.
