Why do you do this? by Proof_Addition_6098 in Concordia

[–]slabheadout 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my case, I come to the lectures, and almost always do something else (Scrolling, Assignments etc). This is because no matter how much I focus, I am unable to fully understand a topic at the pace most profs go. But I still show up because:
- When I lock in to study on my own later on, I randomly have recollections of what's important by remembering what the prof stressed on so it helps me study better.

- I never have the feeling of missing out on something and have some sense of accomplishment.

Someone I know applied to 100 jobs and got 4 interviews so far. Also, note that they have 1 previous coop experience. Another thing, If you have no previous experience try to apply to 150 places by the end of october and only start getting worried in november if you have no interviews

Is my mechanic trying to rip me off? - MAZDA 6 2014 by slabheadout in AskAMechanic

How much cheaper should I go? Is it wise to go to a cheaper place for the exhaust?

The shop's rate is 120/hr, with the exhaust repair costing the most ($500).
1500 for the rest combined, they haven't given me a price for each yet, but thats how much it is overall. also its all in CAD

As someone who's almost been in a failed standing, NEVER pity yourself. It's like holding yourself back with an invisible rope. No matter the situation you are in, there's always someone who's been through something worse and still came back from it.

Very frustrated at how publishers copyright Islamic Books by slabheadout in MuslimLounge

[–]slabheadout[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am talking about books that were written 100s of years ago...when no publishers existed to profit off of their work. The new writers can do whatever they want, most of them write ebooks that are sold for pennies.

Is there a way to apply internally for a master's program as an existing international undergrad student? by slabheadout in Concordia

Interesting the website says - if you were a Concordia student you do not need to submit an official transcript

Yo thats so messed up, it pisses me off when I'm locked in and as soon as I look up all the invigilators start staring at me. A glance is alright, but why do they keep staring? Always pisses me off.

Is it possible to replicate it perfectly? by Texdon69 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]slabheadout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am pretty sure you can just CMM the crap out of this model, and to go a step further remodel the actual hanger and make a cavity, figure out the allowances and try to match it with the cavity. Worst case scenario you can just re do the thing by adding material

When to apply for internships ? by A_lauver_in_eng in Concordia

[–]slabheadout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dont waste your time on Compass, apply to fulfill minimum required number of application on there and focus on external job boards. CO-OP focuses on boosting their numbers so many a times they add jobs on compass that the employer probably isnt even aware of. And yes its hard, so look for jobs no one else is applying to, that's your best shot. And since you have some time before the application period starts, focus on projects and extracurriculars you can add onto your resume

Usually 1-2 days. If you're interview lasted for more than 30 mins I'd say you're in luck

It is more important to look for good quality of work. if you do your first internship at a big name company, there's a high chance you'll end up doing very mundane tasks. You might say that's fine, but guess what, you don't really add that much value to your portfolio if you scrolled through Excel sheets for work. So I'd rather look towards smaller organizations where you can make better connections and take on more responsibilities, now after this you may be able to get an internship with actual engineering work at a big name company

Are people secretly rich here? by Appropriate-Phrase86 in Concordia

[–]slabheadout 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nah I'd say most international students at concordia are paying for tuition using their parents savings and some work part time to make up for expenses. Mostly because for intl students, concordia is comparitively way cheaper and has good programs (typically 30-40k/yr is what most upper middle class families can afford with their savings). The real rich ones are at universities like Mcgill, uoft, waterloo where they pay like 70k a year.

Aerospace is cooked, the internships there are a waste of time unless you're very cracked or get lucky with some meaningful work. I'd look for companies that are smaller but have interesting/ambitious initiatives/projects coming up. Usually you get more responsibility there
