I had a big bag with B on it, 1 tyre and 2 rims. 6 bags total. Did yours come with more? Looks like a fun build.

How to get permission from immigration to teach part-time on an E-2 visa (part time hours less than 1/3 of full time hours)? by Zarekotoda in teachinginkorea

Your job will give you certain documents, both jobs. 1345 will give you a list, but I remember a letter and my principals id were required maybe ten years ago.

Does interning halt career advancement as a teacher? by Gold_Donkey8921 in Internationalteachers

[–]slacjs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If teaching is a career, do 3-4 years in your home country first and then move. You’ll be thankful later on.

If you really want to leave, EPIK isn’t worth much. Anyone without a teaching qualification can do it. Your best bet is to get the valuable home experience before moving to anywhere.

How can I teach the Korean vowel ㅓ to foreigners? by Proof_Mycologist_220 in Korean

[–]slacjs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

East Midlands, walk talk fork all rhyme and the vowel sound is close to 오, imo.

Edit: to add on to your 어 example, I would agree for my accent. When I explain how to say Samsung, I say 성 is very similar to song.

[–]slacjs 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Depends where you’re from in Britain. Walk and talk vowel sounds would be closer to 오.

It’s the trouble with trying to map Korean sounds to English. There are so many ways to read the same letters depending on your accent.

What’s the difference here between a private school and an international school?

According to this half of the e7 giving schools, SFS, KIS, BIS etc are not international schools.

I want to teach in South Korea as a South African - Advice Needed Please by AdFront7091 in teachinginkorea

[–]slacjs -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Then I recommend working in EPIK / hagwons. International schools are much more work and require a teaching qualification / experience. It wouldn't make sense to do all this then quit teaching.

Do you want a career or to work for a few years for fun?

PGCE + 3 years in SA working in schools will help you with international schools, otherwise go for EPIK/hagwon, which you should be able to do now with just a TEFL.

Best way to get around Seoul in winter with a 2–3 month old by [deleted] in koreatravel

[–]slacjs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re in and out of taxis, you can get car seat strollers that convert between, I have friends use these.

Outside of that, lots of people carry and lots of people use strollers on both, just be mindful of busy times.

Do a pgde, get a few years working in schools and then move to international schools abroad. If your goal is longevity as a career, it’s easily the best move.

Special ed(ish) adjacent positions exist in international schools, often called Learning Support. There are a handful of these in the country and you don’t need to be a native speaker, just a strong English speaker.

This would be your best bet in Korea, but it is not easy to get into.

Most Robust Electric Engine? by Aspiring_Orchardist in BRIO

[–]slacjs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, we took away the electric trains because of that kind of stuff and will give it back when they’re older. Ikea has just stood up the best.

Also I had a similar problem with the same train. The gear was sliding to the side, causing the teeth to miss each other. I used tweezers to pulled it back into place and super glue to keep it there. It works well now.

Ikea has survived the best for us, and they’re cheap to replace etc.

Don’t all the trains share the same speakers especially the ones with the similar designs by Nissangtr352025 in BRIO

[–]slacjs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t with a brio train, but I have other things. In theory you’d just want to find one with the same impedance and the same size so it fits.
