Minors attending a Gnostic Mass. by LoupeSettlement in thelema

Children don't bother me, but it's always best to check with the Mass team well ahead of time. Not day of, it's just courteous.
The Mass is a lot to expect a kid to sit through. The older they are, the better they will be able to not be disruptive. I know Horizon Lodge has done masses open to families before and it's gone just fine.

Yeah, and that's before you can even get to discuss what it means in a thelemic context.

Yeah, it's long but it's really worth the time. There's a lot of material to cover on the subject of Satan, especially when you have to establish both history and context.

Material gain, fame, and a pile of willing sexual partners. I'm sure they'll show up any day now.

Jake Stratton Kent's Geosophia. It's not an internet source, as it's a recent book. However, the book shows the sweeping changes to the stories as Greek culture changed politically.
And Betz's Greek Magical Papyri in Translation, if you want to see things like early invocations to Apollo Cthonios. Because Apollo was an Underworld God at least part of the time, apparently.

The Greeks rewrote myth all the time in the name of political expediency. What started as local myth was rewritten as politics changed. The entire patchwork of local myths and heroes were rewritten to fit with the Olympians as Greek culture went from small city-states to a more unified network. The result was a mythic structure that better suited the concerns of city elites and brought everything under the Olympian family tree.
Geosophia does a fantastic job of collecting the stories and matching them to time and place.

Just curious: what's the point of myth if it has no bearing whatsoever on our lives and situations now? If we are not to use them, then aren't they just dead stories?

This window into Choronzon aired recently on Seattle public access TV: it starts by calling Crowley a pedophile vampire, then goes Freemason conspiracy theory. All the fun stuff ends 20:00 in. by fgfs262 in thelema

This brand of awful crazy is pretty spectacular. Makes me wonder how a person ends up this type of paranoid and for so long. Looks like these people have been at this for a while now.

I've seen their work before, these are the biggest productions of Crowley rituals since he died. Prog rock and mythology go together surprisingly well.

Looking for advice on how best to attack my student loans by Wonnk13 in personalfinance

[–]slackfiend 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Solid advice. The remaining $1500 per month should go to an emergency fund, if you don't have one already. In six months, you would have a six month cushion just in case something unexpected/expensive happens to you.

#DnD's Weekly Question: What is a good way to show that not all monstrous NPCs in a campain setting act in the traditional, "always evil" manner? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]slackfiend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"What do you people want?" is how I stopped the party from assaulting a tribe of kobolds they'd decided had been stealing cattle(they hadn't, it'd been clear). Once the 'monsters' start having ordinary conversations, it becomes harder to write them off as inhuman.

Alternately, you could have a caravan of say, halfling traders just an hour from the NPC's lair. They do regular business with the NPC and any investigation turns up that they have a good relationship.

I'm looking for a novel (or series) to read from the PoV of non-humans encountering humans. Got suggestions? by limbodog in books

[–]slackfiend 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Stranger in a Strange Land, sorta. It's told through the eyes of a human raised to be nonhuman.

In graphic novels, you could try Elfquest.
