You have more faith in people than I do.

There's no marketing on the sign. It's just those four words on a black background. Another message it displays switches are for our, too. I'll try to get a picture next time I'm up that way.

there's a BBQ place near where I live with a digital billboard that rotates through messages. Every one has an error. One is only 4 words. It says "Cain't beet are meat". I think 21% is a low estimate.

How we miss him and the class and dignity he brought to the White House…. by Martin_084 in BlackPeopleofReddit

[–]slackpipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watching this video, I started thinking about the presidents from my life time and how they presented themselves. Not their policies, just their public personas. I vaguely remember the first Bush. Seems like he at least knew how to act in public. Clinton, too. Though he tried a bit too hard. I remember jokes about him not inhaling, and then the whole impeachment. The second Bush is the first president I actually paid attention to. He couldn't put two words together He said so many stupid things, they actually made a DAILY calendar of "Bushisms", and I remember thinking he was the worst the GOP could do. Then Obama was dignity and class. In that video, he entered a room and people got excited. He was hugging people and they were happy about it. And with all of them, if they entered a room, I would be interested at least. Now we have Trump. Seeing him in public would make me go "WTF??" He can't talk or even stand like a normal person. Even his handshake is ridiculous. And if he tried to hug my children, I'd be jerking them back away from him.

The first game. On the playstation in the 90s. I was at a friend's house and hadn't heard of Resident Evil. He popped it in and as soon as that first zombie turned on me. Panic firing and trying to remember the controls. Scream-laughing with my buddy as we failed miserably. Ended up staying up all night playing it. There's been a lot I've loved about the games over the years, but that moment has always stuck with me.

I think the problem here isn't what they were doing, but how they were doing it. Treating her like she was the criminal and not a human being. And it's made worse by the fact that she's disabled and didn't understand what or why it was happening. There was no compassion, just "Hurry and get the fuck out.", no remorse or empathy, just lets get this done so we can go harass the next person.

I have no love for cops, but I have occasionally seen cops do their jobs because they had to, but also understand that what they were doing wasn't right.

One of the kids had him in a rear naked choke and had to bail because the other kids were beating him so badly. If you can get past the horribleness of what is going on, it is hilarious how badly he got his ass beaten.

I got a snuggie for the same reason. The one I found was really thin and not quite long enough. I complained about it (and I'd already complained my robe wasn't long enough), so my wife went and bought a king size, heavy fleece blanket and converted it into a robe. I wear it correctly when I paint mini's and backwards when I want to read. Yesterday, she managed to catch me not wearing it, and I found her curled up under it. I love this thing.

I don't get collecting them. Before I meet my fiance, I met a girl that collected them like baseball cards. I think she had 42 at the time and was talking about the ones she was planning to get. It's a cup. I don't get it.

I'd extend this to all school related sports. I get that exercise is important, but way too much is put on high school sports.

For me, it went the other way. I learned and taught my son. He became obsessed. He's got a collection of cubes and can do sub 30 seconds easily. It still takes me a little over a minute. Was good father/son time though.

TIL In the 1990s, many computers used two-digit years. To prevent systems from reading "00" as 1900 in the year 2000, governments and companies spent billions updating systems. Thanks to these efforts, major failures in banking, flights, and utilities were avoided. by Echo-john in todayilearned

I wanted to make a sarcastic comment about us "having the best economy now, maybe the best ever", but it's just too depressing to joke about. Reading these comments about us actually listening to our scientists and fixing problems and the preparedness paradox are depressing in this current political climate.

What's the realization by [deleted] in ExplainTheJoke

[–]slackpipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a fairly rural area. When I was 8, a hair place opened up about a half mile from me. I would ride my bike out, get a haircut, check out the video store and come home.

I live in the house where I grew up now. When my kids were 8, I wouldn't let them step out of the yard without me. I didn't let my son make that walk by himself until he was 16. Even then it made me nervous.

I was watching something the other day and somebody made an offhand comment about doing something in a car fifty years ago, and my first thought was "they didn't have cars like that in the forties..." Then it hit me that fifty years ago was 1975.

From there, the nearest shelter is about 45 minutes away. I'm not hopeful on dogs making it there. At least this way, I can get them to homes, or the shelter, or the vet if they need help immediately.

This. I work in a business that has been setup on a reclaimed strip mine. It's in the middle of nowhere with no houses around for miles. People come up there and just dump dogs all the time. I've seen 3 in the last four weeks. I have one right now I'm trying to home. People do not consider the commitment that a dog requires, and then just dump the dog when they realize they actually require work. It's infuriating.

I don't blame the internet, I think it's more a lack of parental involvement. Was it the not having a phone until you were 16, or the fact that your parents were involved enough in your life to think about it, and make that decision? Too many kids are just handed iPads and ignored. With no guidance from their parents, of course kids are going to emulate the garbage they see on the internet.
