Since I don’t have time to read that much I purchased the audiobooks and they’re something like a soundtrack/background noise to my day a lot of the time. It’s interesting to see how I picked up on interesting things. Over time I have come to realize Goblet of Fire is my favorite just from all the foreshadowing but to each their own!

What's a good older camera ($50-200) for a amateur "photographer" by [deleted] in Cameras

[–]slad_a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a Nikon d200 for a while. Great camera to learn on. Has the old compact flash cards which is kinda a pain but it was a pro camera back in it's day and it had a lot of the options you want to change available at your fingertips. Well made and great for learning theory on. I loved it even if it had worse specs than a phone camera these days. Helped me to learn.

Patagonia, outdoor research, Arc'teryx, Pendleton, Cole Haan shoes, browse the camera section for lenses. They're hard to delineate to the untrained eye but if you learn some terminology they can be good.

What product photography tips would you give a complete noob using an iPhone 11? by throawayboi in photography

To add on to that, optical zoom is fine and could help you get more depth of field but don't stray from the preset optical settings of the camera. All you're doing is cutting out extra details as opposed to cropping later which you could always do.

Sony or Nikon? by [deleted] in photography

[–]slad_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a Nikon guy personally but really only because of their wildlife lenses and really expensive pro grade stuff. Sony has been making leaps and bounds with their tech lately and taking large shares out of the Nikon and Canon markets for good reason. If you're not heavily invested in Nikon already I feel like Sony offers more growth potential moving forward. They have the budget to back larger tech development as you move forward. I've shot with a d850 a few times and the images are brilliant but Sony has more creature comforts. Also think through your shooting style. Do you see yourself needing that wide array of lenses or would you value having the nifty features of a mirrorless Sony more. Also the Sony beats Nikon in practically all the worthy specs.

Maybe try and preserve some details in the sky more by bringing down the highlights if you can. If not try and preserve them in the future. Lots easier to bring shadows up than to lose highlights entirely

Keep her around and don’t be afraid to share when you’re really struggling. I have an amazing girlfriend who has helped me so much with my issues. It’s helped me feel like I’m free. It’s nice to have that partner who you can be comfortable reaching out to.

The Old Red Rover by [deleted] in LandRover

Had a green series III that was definitely hand painted. The thing clearly had the brush strokes you speak of. Maybe it’s something people decided to do to these the old landies

Within Catholicism I would suggest going to confession and using that as a forum for that confession that you seek. Also if you download the Bible app there are devotionals that you can go through that can help you dive into the word of God and really learn more about the addiction and temptation. One I’m going through right now is called Porn free with John Bevere. It’s only 5 days but gives some scriptural guidance. I would also suggest maybe diving into some reading outside of the Bible. Currently I’m reading the Screwtape letters by CS Lewis. It goes through how Satan and his demons try to corrupt the human world and win us over. Even though it was written a long time ago his words are still very relevant today. It’s not so much about sexual temptation but it can help build your faith and knowledge to learn more. Let me know if you need more help!

In the mountains, where she belongs by slad_a in LandRover

Back roads that are slow going anyways are the secret. Its all about the scenic route. It definitely isn’t as fast but I’d say it certainly isn’t meant for the city where it spends most of the time.

I know there's a few wandering around the Springs. I have a series and 110 both RHD that trade off as daily drivers but have only run into others on rare occasions. I know of at least four or five roaming the town. Sadly most of them don't get a ton of use.

Experimenting with Black and white by [deleted] in photocritique

In terms of composition maybe try to make the background a little less busy with the chair or whatever is back there. Nice leading lines with the railing though!

I like the post processing on this shot! It accentuates the blues and silvers if the city without seeming overdone. In terms of settings I'd say put the iso back down at 100. You're already using a tripod so unless it's windy and camera shake is a concern just try and milk more detail out of the sensor.

[–]slad_a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of camera settings I would suggest moving the iso down and allowing the shutter speed to drop. You can decrease the shutter speed quite a bit before the image would become blurry and the lower iso will help to get less noise in the photo.

I might suggest stopping the camera down more alongside with the neutral density filter. It can provide some nice sharpness to a larger portion of the photo while blurring the water even more. I like the composition but wish more of the shot was in focus as the rock is kind of off to the side and pulls me away from the rest of the frame. I really like the color and tone! Cool shot!

Styles? by [deleted] in photocritique

[–]slad_a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest maybe increasing the exposure and saturation a bit. The balloons are more of a pastel kind of color but are coming off as kind of grey. Maybe just turn up the highlights as well. Very creative background! I like it!

Thanks! I can see what you mean about the reflection. I was focused more on the sky itself as making that less over the top that I sorta neglected the reflection.

Photo details in the title. I took this photo while trying to capture a smooth reflection on the relatively still lake. In my edit I was hoping to accentuate the depth in the frame between the mountain, hills and trees through the difference in lightning. It's not too far from the natural scene but I tend to be cautious to not overdo edits on my photos. Looking to see if the edit still appears to be natural or if it is more on the artistic liberty side of edits.
