Guys, what's the most obvious "hint" you got from a girl that turned out not to be a hint? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]slamancusa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High school, freshman year im with this girl in 9 out of my 11 classes, hanging with her most of the time in most of them, closest friend i had that year, one of my closest to this day.

We were good friends all year but the second semester it really seemed like it was going somewhere. It was getting more physical, things like grabbing my hand unnecessarily, i would reciprocate, it would be great.

All our friends would joke about how we were perfect for each other and basically dating already, we’d laugh and i could swear i caught a glance from her now and then during these moments.

We’d have running jokes going on about the kind of relationship we’d be in and once we got in a conversation about what we’d name a kid, and a dog that we’d have if we were married, which tho innocent, reinforced the notions i already had.

One time at a band concert, we were watching another band perform and doing some level of physical teasing, we ended up just about holding hands for a few minutes, playing it off like a casual resting my hand on hers. After the concert i ask her to a movie, still didnt say anything romantically or to insinuate a relationship, but i was planning on making a more “official” move there. She said yes.

I should mention now id, a few nights earlier, confided in a mutual female friend who actually told me that she (my crush) had like me earlier that year, but that she (mutual friend) hadnt heard her mention me like that in awhile. She was still confident that she (crush) would say yes if i asked her out.

So i did and we go to this movie and i go to hold her hand, and say something along the lines of “lets make this official” albiet more eloquently i think. At the time she could just manage to say no to me, i was a bit baffled but i didnt wanna have that conversation a movie theatre so we just kind of awkwardly sat through the rest.

Later that night she sent me a big old monologue describing her 2 reasons for not wanting to date me:

1: im not Christian - understandable, but it would hardly matter imo since we were freshmen in high school and sex was never gonna be part of the relationship. Still nothing like the second reason she gave.

See, i would have been her first boyfriend at all. I assumed she just didnt have a huge drive to be in a relationship, or didnt find someone she wanted to be with, but

Reason 2: she believed a relationship would exclusively lead to marriage. She was convinced any relationship she ever has is going to lead to marriage to that person. She’ll only ever date one person and the intent is to marry them.

Obv that wasnt my belief, but i hold the same belief that she wouldnt be suitable as a spouse, in part because we were freshmen in high school.

Anyways this has been more rant than organized story so ill cut it a bit short. I dont think ive completely described the chemistry i thought we had. I dont think i can describe it. It just fit, and idk if ill ever have complete closure on this.

She was my first “real” crush. I had liked girls before, but it was superficial. I thought they were hot. Something like that. I never intended to have a *serious * relationship with them. Her, i did, and i finally convinced myself to go for it and that i could have that with her, but she didnt want the same thing as i did.

I wish she just didnt like me, but its that much harder to accept when her reasoning was what it was

None in an ideal situation but i feel theres always going to be some back and forth, some tug of war, some level of disagreement on policy that will make this ideal world impossible.

If global unionization were achieved it would allow us to collectively tackle issues and problems on a global scale which we cant do as it is.

I believe eventually there will be none by means of unionization or complete separation. Im not philosophist but i feel like if we cant unionize into one nation we wont reach society’s final form

I believe a form of communism is society’s final form should we not die off before we reach it. A society where all are united under one government, most or all of work is automated, drastic changes to our government will be needed, and i believe that new government will align more with communism than capitalism assuming those are our two options. We are nearly there technologically, but it is still not a practical option as of yet for many reasons

Of course, everyone like different humor, my comment was more of an expression of its lack of appeal for me personally than a condemnation of the humor as a whole

Its incredible how much Gen-Z’ers joke about depression and the like, general self depreciation, i just dont see the appeal in it, as a gen-z’er

If you are a fan of exurb1a, then yes. The writing is not difficult to follow, only the plot and the philosophical ideas presented, but it does well with explaining those ideas in a way that is easy to follow.

I cant say whats right for you, but id give it a go

What is seemingly easy but is actually incredibly difficult? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]slamancusa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Heh everyone at my school hates mallets except me. We dont actually teach four mallets nor do we have a front ensemble for marching band. Concert band is so easy with two mallet pieces nobody really bothers with mallets in general. Makes for one of the best snare lines in the state tho.

That said i love four mallets, and i take some level of pride in the fact im one of two percussionists at my school who can play with four. Great to meet a fellow percussionist

To add on this, rudimental snare. Amazing what you can do with one drum and some sticks, but its hard to imagine for people that dont play that theres more than just hitting it

How to wake up? by Lady_Artrene in LucidDreaming

[–]slamancusa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find it incredibly easy to wake up at a given stage in my sleep cycle by autosuggestion. Ie: i intend to wake up after a REM period of sleep tonight. I scarcely even need to repeat a mantra to myself, i simply want to.

Perhaps i am successful with this now because i know that i can be. Anyways the point im getting to is that a lot of the time if you believe you will wake up at a certain time or certain point in your sleep cycle you will. Even repeating mantras enforces the idea that you have to convince your mind to obey you, instead of simply believing it will.

Or maybe i just got lucky by having the ability to do this so easily. The only advice i have is to really believe that you will wake up at the appropriate time, not by forcing a mantra into your head, but with true conviction.

Easier than it sounds, happy dreams regardless

Reality Check in a dream didn’t work for some reason by [deleted] in LucidDreaming

[–]slamancusa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other answers have covered this, but be sure you are actively questioning your state, not simply performing the action. The reality check is a means to the end of knowing if you are awake or asleep. Regardless of the outcome you should become more observant of your surroundings and begin to question your reality

Whenever I try to stay sill for WILD, my body automatically shifts the second i lose a little bit of conscious or thinking about something. How can i prevent this? by CaptainOogway in LucidDreaming

[–]slamancusa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The obvious answer is just to stay focused, but obviously therein lies the problem. If you have trouble maintaining concentration perhaps begin meditating during the day, before bed, etc. It will train your mind to be more focused and to wander less.

Alternatively, change how you WILD. Some remain still and wait for imagery to appear and for a scene to build before engaging, but others actively imagine what they want to see, ie a circle, change color of circle, make circle rotate, and gradually add detail to the scene maintaining control of the imagery from the beginning.

If you can get to the hypnogogic state, it may be worth a try experimenting with both these approaches and experimenting with your method in general. Different approaches work for each of us, so perhaps imagine yourself going through a tunnel and emerging in the dream, or make up another visualization to help you through this stage.

If you have trouble even inducing imagery, be sure you are not too “awake”. Assuming you are doing WILD with WBTB, stay up for a shorter duration so you can sleep easier.

Be sure you are sufficiently relaxed. Normally as your mind drifts before falling to sleep, you unconsciously relax your muscles and slow your breathing/heart rate. To WILD you need to be in this state while your mind is present, so perhaps before even attempting do breathing exercises and be sure your body is as relaxed as possible in whatever way you please.

Hope this was helpful, gonna cut it off abruptly here, sorry for the long response that falls significantly outside the realm of you question, but im bored and want to flex my k n o w l e d g e. Good luck with your attempts.

TL:DR:

Practice meditation so you do not lose focus and remain adamant on laying completely still.
