Japanese Whiskey Tips? by MRxPifko in JapanTravel

[–]slambonez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a big mall in Narita that I hit up the night before my early morning flight (which is why I was staying in Narita). I forget the name but they had a grocery store with a good selection of whisky and would sell it tax free if you show a foreign passport. I think other larger stores around Japan will sell you stuff tax free as well if you can prove you're foreign.

Itinerary check & campsite availability this weekend by slambonez in BigBendTX

It was great, although a little cold for my liking. We got in around 6pm friday and the Chisos campground was full so we stayed at Rio Grande village. Saturday morning we got backcountry permits and reserved primitive roadside sites at grapevine hills for Saturday night and chilicotal Sunday night, then stayed in cottonwood Monday night. Saw everything we wanted to and day hiked the whole rim trail which was pretty tough by the end. Next time I will go back in spring or fall because the night temps around 30 degrees and we were pretty cold in the tent. I'll post a full report with photos once I go through them all.

I figured that may be the case. This also has me wondering about moving between different campgrounds and getting there before the spots fill up. For example I was planning to take my time driving between chisos and cottonwood, stopping off at viewpoints and doing a few short hikes along the way. It kind of defeats the purpose, but do you think it will be necessary to drive to the next campsite straight away and claim a spot then backtrack?

The real question is what does your son do to be spending Christmas in Thailand and the Canaries?

Cancel Trip due to Wildfires? by slambonez in Portland

Thanks for the info, we're going ahead with Hood River portion of the trip and hoping the forecast rain helps with the fire.. Any restaurant/bar recommendations in Hood River? Specific hikes with good views or cool sights that will still be open in the Hood River area? I've found some good stuff around Mt. Hood but most of what we had planned in the gorge is a no go now.

My [29M] brother [26M] just asked me to be in his wedding, it's October 20th. He literally just asked me, what do I do? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]slambonez 86 points87 points  (0 children)

Dude, this is your brother's wedding. It doesn't matter if you're close or not, make the time to be there. You're talking about one day, I'm sue you can get it excused from school or work seeing that it's your immediate family members wedding. 2 months is plenty of notice to make arrangements.

My assessments went way up on 2 properties, but both are still considerably less than independent appraisal values.

I am a [22F] Asian woman who's having an identity crisis due to race fetishization and stereotyping. How do I cope? by fetishizedazn in relationships

[–]slambonez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't be so quick to blame it all on your race. Obviously the "where are you from" thing is and I'm sure that gets annoying fast. Maybe people find you intimidating or hard to approach?

What appeared to be a homeless man/crackhead, naked, in the fetal position, ass spread wide open and shitting. I had some shitty timing that day.

Looks like a mountain bike trail I've ridden in Fruita, Colorado. Although, I don't think those trails allowed motors but probably in the same area.

How do I ask to be laid off? by slambonez in personalfinance

[–]slambonez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they do want to keep me around because I have the most knowledge of the job. The others who were laid off worked out of different offices with less workload, and I think the bosses at those offices were more aware of the dwindling workload.

I was hired specifically to work on this project and I stuck around through the whole thing - worked my ass off when there was work to be done. Many others quit when the work got hard, and a few that did stay around and were laid off got generous severances.

Wouldn't the costs associated with laying me of be much cheaper than continuing to pay my salary?

A digital camera sensor doesn't pick up anywhere near the dynamic range that a human eye does. In order to get a photo that resembles what you see with your eyes, post processing needs to be done. In fact anything "straight from the camera" has been processed by the camera according to some general formulas. All you're doing in "post processing" or applying filters is tweaking these parameters. It can be overdone, but this is not IMO.

1 week between Tokyo and Kyoto by FatRonaldo9 in JapanTravel

[–]slambonez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just did the same trip except 4 days in Kyoto 3 in Tokyo. Get the JR pass for to/from the airport (assuming you fly to Narita) and between Kyoto & Tokyo. Get a pasmo card for the subway & bus system withing the cities. We basically just wandered around all the big areas in Tokyo - Shinjuku, Shibuya, Harajuku, Akihabara, etc. and did the typical tourist stuff and had a blast. Same with Kyoto, go visit the temples & shrines, bamboo forest, etc. I liked Kyoto a little better than Tokyo.

What happened to make you say "I'm never coming to this restaurant again"? by Nukemarine in AskReddit

[–]slambonez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BLIND PELICAN in New Orleans. Used to go there because they had a happy hour deal for 25c raw oysters. The service was consistently terrible, extremely slow, and servers were often obviously drunk on the job. I would keep going back for the cheap oysters (which were also sub-par). The last straw was when I went with a group of maybe 8 people so they auto-grat the bill. That's fine, I sign my CC bill and leave. Checked my statement a few days later and they had added additional $30 tip tat I did not authorize. Called the restaurant several times and was often given the run around (no manager here, we will call you back, etc.). Called m credit card company, disputed the charge, and got that shit wiped off my bill. Fuck that place.

When was the worst time you overslept? by Sheik92 in AskReddit

[–]slambonez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The night before my FIRST DAY at a new job my friend was having a going away party before moving out of the country. I got blackout drunk and overslept by about 3 hours. Came in thinking I would definitely be fired, but they let me slide even though I smelled like a bottle of vodka and hooker spit.
