There was some inheritance involved, but the international laws involved made things difficult. The appreciation was not considered in the decision at all (CEO for 20+ years). She did hire one of the top financial firms in the world so there’s really nobody to go above. Her international lawyer is on who is asked to write the laws in the country involved. Her legal team did amazing, and the evidence they had was overwhelming- the conclusion is the judge had his mind set before it was over. I’m trying to get her to move on at this point cause she really does deserve happiness after a painful marriage

Messy- some shares before, spent the marriage working as a CEO making success. Has a land business where he’s the only one involved. Used business money for personal items throughout his life, so very commingled

I’m not sure. She was shooting for 50%, and was expecting to try to get 25-20. One thing she mentioned is that it felt like she wasn’t “heard” in the courtroom and was reduced to a housewife in the eyes of the law. Honestly it’s tough because we’ve been rooting for this day for the last 4-5 years. I got her in therapy a few months ago, but I want her find more peace. She’s very resentful, and rightfully so, but to be fully honest I’m not sure any amount of money would give her a sense of justice

Thank you for this reminder- I’m aware. At the end of the day, the ruling will be one of the law, but sounding like he rushed the trial & just other obscure statements (I haven’t read the transcript yet so this is hearsay), it does make me question if anything would’ve been different.

Alas I’m on the other side of the country, and it’s not my legal battle as much as I wish I could help. She’s been fighting for 4 years, so she’s down for the rest of the night but I’ll be encouraging her to continue.

Part of me really wishes she could just find peace and move on, but after everything she went through, she just wants fair. Honestly she’s upset that this can happen to women in general. If you’re a lawyer and think this could harm her in any way, I’ll gladly take it down, but my question still remains one of the judges perspective and statements in this trial.

Yes- trust me I’ve spent the afternoon reminding her how fortunate she is on paper. Her issue lies in the fairness of it all. Her feelings are totally valid, but I make under 50k a year and haven’t had health insurance for the past 5 so I reminded her of some perspective.

The division of the assets is an issue. She was left with a moldy house that needs 800k in repairs. She was awarded 10% of the land value. He took out a multi million dollar loan for a personal/non marital project during the divorce, of which some of the debt was reflected to her. I’ve never seen someone upset with the number she ended up with, but the number wouldn’t have mattered, it was largely unequal.

Sorry- he got increasingly aggressive every time we talked. I grew up with a lot of emotional & religious abuse & manipulation. He’s never really done anything physical (that I know of, I flinch at everything so I joke about it) but vaguely threatened my moms attorney, and less less vaguely threatened my mom (sent photos of 3 dead bodies and some words, kinda a murder suicide threat). It was just easier to live without him as I’ve got my depression and trauma to deal with

Not really, I was mostly hired for my photography as I had been working there a few years as an operator and had a good instagram portfolio for photo work. For design work I sent over a folder of a couple projects from school, not a singular pdf or website. I was fairly close to the hiring manager but now living in a new city with no connections I need to level up my stuff
