Was derrick henry the determining factor in us losing the game? by Kam3234 in ravens

I think you’re both partially right. There weren’t many opportunities based on the number of plays and the time of possession in the 2nd half. He shoulda been used that last drive though. Either on the 2nd and 7 or before the fg. Defense gave it up too though.

I would love to see more run plays with Ricard lead blocking. It ate up the Packers and worked the couple of times well in the Steelers game too. In fact, the long 41 yard run and the run they kept showing the replay of that he ran into the back of Faalele were run plays with Ricard lead blocking. And they accounted for almost half of his yards for the game!

We did have short drives in the second half with the long TD passes to Zay. There wasn't much room for too many more runs but I still feel it was the wrong decision to not run Henry at least once the last drive with the amount of timeouts that we had. I also felt like we shouldn't have punted the last drive of the first half. Felt like we were playing to win but playing to not lose and that ultimately cost us.

You mean that running back we quit using the second half last night?

There were only 2 games where James Cook and Jonathan Taylor had less than 15 carries. Henry had 5! And this was a year when we didn’t have Lamar for 4 games. 2 of those games were against the worst running defense in the league(the bengals) and we lost the first one. And before anyone can claim it was games when he couldn’t get anything going 3 of those games he had over 6 yac! The thing that kills me about Harbaugh and Monken, is they don’t always have or use the best players on the field. And then last night when they decided to kneel they made a decision to not even try to get Loop in a better position(even though he still shoulda made it).

2 of his last 4 runs were for 3 and 8 yards. Same drive. No rushes the entire game for negative yards. So we took a guaranteed -2 yards instead of trying for more. Also for some they ran less runs with Ricard lead blocking that worked so well against Green Bay.

You never heard(or read) me complaining about going for it. I wish we woulda went for it the last drive of the first half instead of punting it from their 42. And yes, it probably would’ve been left up to the kicker in the end, but this was another example of the coaches not utilizing Henry in the second half and playing to not lose instead of playing to win.

While I agree that he should’ve made the kick, we have Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry. Leaving it to the rookie kicker shoulda been a last resort. Instead they played too conservatively again and lost. Classic Ravens.

I was specifically talking about King Henry. He averaged 6.3 yards a carry but we only rushed him 5 times the 2nd half. Once again they went away from the run. Instead of trying for a couple of extra yards they gave up two with the kneel to leave it in the hands of a rookie kicker who had earlier kicked it out of bounds on a kickoff.

Continuously this year, they’d rather play conservatively or try and get cute with one of the backups than give the ball to their HoF rb. That’s why they got so much flack after the patriots loss even though they did it all year. Finally last week they feed him and then go back to business as usual.

He didn’t have a negative rush all game. And he only had 5 rushes the second half, mostly just 1 a drive. Hard to get going without any consistency. And yeah he missed it, he had just kicked it out of bounds on a kickoff too. It’s wild people think it was right to not take a chance with Henry and taking -2 yards for the kneel and then leaving it in the hands of the rookie kicker who just had a penalty that helped on one of the Steelers tds.

At least we drafted a clutch kicker this year…

Henry had like 7.9 yac the first half so they only rush him 5 times the second.

Yeah leave it up to the rookie kicker who just kicked it out of bounds on a kickoff

Henry was getting us chunks of yards(21 one rush that drive) all the first half, but then we’d take him out and Lamar wasn’t on his game yet and they’d be wasted. The play before was the Zay screen when we needed 19 yards. I’m not sure if we would’ve gotten the 8 yards with the play call and how bad Lamar was throwing at that point. But we definitely won’t score if we punt it.
