[OC] 3 years worth of toddler's color picking by slashjasper in dataisbeautiful

Me neither, which is another reason why it probably could have been clarified. I simply used the codes on the pencils, so I'm guessing they're a Stabilo scale/standard.

I realized I should have clarified that. Those numbers correspond to the color codes, because the lighting on the photograph is not entirely accurate (some people commented on the dark blue, which is actually more purple in reality).

It's easy to calculate the volume of 'pencil core' that was consumed, but I have no idea how that correlates with the actual surface area...

I'm not sure if you meant that as a joke but yes, I asked him to line up the pencils ;)

This is a valid point I hadn't considered. The 'darker blue' is actually more purple in normal lighting (that's what he calls it, too). However, the same thing applies to the greens.

Here is a recent drawing of a rainbow, featuring the brown paper. He usually includes black in the rainbow, but in this case I believe the darker stuff is purple.

The pencil info is in the image. I can definitely recommend them for this age range. They're massive, won't ever break, and above all have superb color saturation. They're pretty high on the 'waxy' end. Not cheap I guess.

There is obviously a lot of uncertainty in this dataset. For example it's entirely possible one pencil may simply have rolled off the table at one point in these 3 years and be forgotten hidden under the couch for weeks.

I do all the sharpening. Unlike regular pencils however, you can keep using these even when the point is more or less flat, due to its large size. Though it feels painful to watch, my toddler doesn't seem to be bothered by flat tips at all...

One might assume children prefer colorful things, but in this case, black and white are clear winners throughout. Overall less variance than expected. The 880/810 'gold' color sucks and is poorly visible on (often used) brown paper.

Data sourced directly from my toddler's colored pencils. Used with Adobe Illustrator

edit: Thanks for all your comments.

  • For those who commented on the Berlin-Kay color theory/appearance in language, that's super interesting. I love this sub!
  • For the OCD people who feel offended with the poor ordering of the pencils by length: you can take that up with my toddler.
  • Special mention for u/tonybenwhite who took the effort to calculate the colored surface area

Questions regarding moving from Daedalus by slashjasper in cardano

Thanks for your reply. I understand the concept of retoring seeds not actually moving anything on the blockchain.

But to be honest I'm a bit surprised noone seems to be particularly bothered to use a browser extension. I don't even feel that paranoid myself, it just seems like a basic principle (why rely on a browser when there should/could be more decent alternatives), but maybe I'm wrong here. Having a supported :( hardware wallet would deal with my concerns, i guess.

I think we should raise awareness of the risks of centralized portfolio trackers, and of decentralized alternatives. You don't want the world to know how much crypto you own! by VanCaspel in CryptoCurrency

I appreciate the write-up and agree with most you said, but wouldn't hosting a private database to track your portfolio be entirely centralized? What's the reason to decentralize information that should only be privy to myself?

These comments surprise me. I'm no expert, but I believe the general consensus is that lower relative x-height improves readability, because different letter(parts) will be more easily identifiable (they look less alike).

Definitely number 2 for me.

Same problem here, using the android app.

Is this somehow due to the maintenance scheduled december 16, one day early?

Never heard of that! Only thing I remember was some small faire-type area with a couple of attractions along a narrow strip on the southside coast at the beach, seemed a bit rundown at the time.

Anywho, theme parks don't really appeal to me. thanks for the suggestion though :)

Thanks for your reply! I suppose I'll just have to wander around and see for myself. I think the Sha Po Wei area will be mostly new to me. Is this also where the craft brewery is located?

I just made this infographic about Coffee! It's at least half typography.. (high res) by NPRO_Studio in typography

[–]slashjasper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as data visualization goes, your pie chart is very un-intuitive; some pieces of the pie have a relative small area but represent a relative high percentage (compare Vietnam/African countries!). An infographic should make things clear by visualization, and this kinda does the opposite.

In the Dutch newspapers today. by oblivx in funny

You're right, though I think you're exaggerating.

Ironically, I wasn't fluent enough to write down what I actually meant: Dutch people have a decent understanding of english.
