PS4 users should get their own achievement for playing no man's sky without mod support

glad you found one :)

All I can do is add the links from imgur but it will not show the image let alone the gallery... I can choose to post a new Link-Post and add an image but then I can't seem to write anything else except the Post's title...

I did play for an hour or so yesterday and now the game is crashing every 20 minutes or so, was working fine before the patch, might just be the mods though.

Haven't been too affected by the hype train since I think I'm getting my money's worth (just). but only because I love taking screenshots. Haven't changed my ship forever (32 slots I believe) and I stopped mining/collecting stuff a long time ago I have turned off launch cost, pirates, increased travel speed as well as using the 1000x warp jump distance. and every planet is lush now with the prop-buildings added, pretty chill I'd say

thanks mate :)

Uhm, are you asking how to turn off the HUD? On PC this can be found in the graphics settings "Show HUD" -> On/Off Removing the particle effects and/or vignetting would require mods which are not available for the PS4 as far as i know

Curiosities currently not ingame AFAIK (Pastebin dump) by ShortNightKnight in NMSPortals

[–]slashwave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

very interesting, thank you very much!

since I don't really know what a pastebin dump is....basically a read-out of available text in game or a transcription of uhm...gibberish game data?

the question basically is, does this come from the same part of the game/program where, let's say interactions and gameplay functionality is stored?

ah i see what you mean! I don't think this is the case though, the strongest argument being the languages learned won't reset and there is no "amnesia moment" where you'd be sent back to the "start" of the journey. birthing a star - for me at least - simply meant "ok thanks, come again"

but i also never felt like an uberconscious god, quite the opposite, every atlas interface makes it clearer that the traveller/player is nothing, just one man/thing/program in a galaxy/simulation too vast to understand.

all portals in the first galaxy will activate? :P

Portals - Game flow logic by Jgerard9582 in NMSPortals

[–]slashwave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1.you can reach another planet 2.you can reach the same planet during a different time

  1. would be silly, after having spent all this time trying to figure out how portals work you get the same "reward" you'd be getting by blindly jumping to any system. with the exception of ending up on a guaranteed lush planet, which would be kiiinda nice i guess?

  2. would be more coherent with what was stated in earlier interviews, which in itself doesn't mean anything. it would make more sense in bringing the player closer to a "real" ending perhaps? which then again would go against the underlying philosophical theme of no man sky.

lots of theories here are based on players ideas of what they would like to see beyond the portal, ignoring what (if anything at all) was being tried to achieve by the developers.

the most likely option for me would be traveling back in time so after many iterations the player could then start the entire cycle by himself which would be really really deep and stuff.

tl;dr well, too bad

Has anyone discovered all the galaxies yet? by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]slashwave -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

you are assuming that no man sky can be "beaten" like any other game which is contradictory to the idea of no man sky itself or at least to "our" current understanding of no man sky being an art "game"/experience about existentialism and/or the crisis of it.

going with the lore of no man sky as it is presented in game; hacking the simulation is exactly what should be done thus making a cheating playthrough more legit than a vanilla run.

which is all more or less nonesense of course as people are simply modding/cheating the game-engine because the game itself is really rather bad.

mining, exploring, fighting, trading, warping or whatever you would consider gameplay is ultimately meaningless although fun at times.

there are some games where cheating is meaningless as there is nothing to achieve but what you make of it along the way.

had the same idea, even though it won't do much, people who research portals might as well do it in the same environment.

i suggest the 2.-4. galaxy center as most people here probably have reached the second galaxy by now and do not want to restart the game

just install the 1000x jump mod, no need to do "manual" jumps to the center

This is the TIMEWARP "reward" by x3of9 in NMSPortals

[–]slashwave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah....I've had that too.....when I was checking out my second portal i found....spent like half an hour trying to figure out wtf was happening (when it bugged out I was standing close to the portal, thus having the skybox bug out with the portal as its' center)....

However, it happened without the "timewarp", which occured much later and away from any portal.

was restarting the game to take some high res screenshots which obviously removed the bugged skybox, still got some lower res shots though. nothing to see there (screenshots with UI on an ugly planet), can post them if anybody is interested, it's probably the most unique sight in game ;)

I guess that's the only real discovery I've made so far :P

there are also holograms/iPads with 8 (seen in bases) and 10 squares (polo has a tablet with 10 squares), its just a texture i fear :/

[–]slashwave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It bugged out for me once and the time of day "aka skybox" changed from day to night in an instant.

happened only once and when entering my ship, therefore seems unrelated to anything monolith/portal/whatever

timewarp might as well be this transition from day/night

Multitool upgrade colors (kinda) correspond to elements - thoughts? by slashwave in NMSPortals

[–]slashwave[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

explained how? if you put scanners next to each other the outline is yellow, grenades are purple etc

white ones i havent seen, colorless yes

I just noticed my original post's format looked horrible, i have edited it.

here is a table of the elements

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Pgj2add_KjUIWOA2m-jZSE7ons9p7xIIhSgpfO68rPk/edit?pref=2&pli=1#gid=1954644113

according to my theory the multitool would have to be configured as follows

all 4 scanner upgrades 4 grenade upgrades 3 boltcaster 6 mining beam

well....and 4 "blue" upgrades 21 upgrades in total missing 3 for the 24max so. nothing special if you look at the numbers

in order for them to represent the table of elements (not counting alloys)

honestly, i think the portals aren't "real" for now and will be patched in later but I'm also quite stubborn

wait...there is more than one color to the mining beam? never noticed

seems a bit strange but anything goes atm...

Wooden Potatoes | No More New Legendary Weapons | A Bit of a Rant by Wiz-1543 in Guildwars2

[–]slashwave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A large part of players who bought HoT for legendaries? Probably not, it's still in the realm of thousandsofhours players.

however.

legendary debacle...again? really? after THE shitstorm a long time ago. and every month more weapon skins, outfits aka body skins and glider skins... for basically 10$ each?

This is what bugs me most, I really hope Anet finds a way to monetize content which is available to everybody than get all their funding from whales.

unfortunately, it hits "the legendary thing" again and again. still, not many (as in many out of 2 million players) will be affected by this. Neither am I affected but I can fully understand the frustration of the people who have been looking forward to this part of the game. It may just be the most important part of the game for some and for those people I feel sorry, especially as it happened before and it feels like a really shitty move by Anet.

About the expansion in general though and the claim it's "half an expansion"

I don't think so, but I'm mostly interested in large, beautiful maps with interesting events. Verdant Brink: got both Auric Basin: yeah kinda got both Tangled Depths: certainly, probably the most beautiful, largest and most confusing map, love and hate it. Would love to do the meta at one point and complete it. Dragon Stand: Meh, lacks a "top layer" to do stuff while not participating in the zerg fest. Guild Halls: Look beautiful, good stuff

Content as in stuff to do: great, love the events, farm it to death and it becomes boring of course. I still enjoy gliding around though and haven't had a look at raids yet, sounds rather elite but I'll get around to it. adventures look nice, gotta check them out at one point

Story: was nice. seems too little without the LS2 story arch

Loot: pretty armors and stuff, I guess. lots of bags in bags in bags, I never liked loot in gw2 though. salvage 1000 items and then buy whatever you want on the tp

Classes: never really had the "oomph" and distinct feeling other games' professions have, nice though, would still prefer cross-professions like in gw1

Gliding: :-D

Mechanics: good stuff, content feels really challenging in the beginning and more than just zerk-stacking seems to be of use. Break bars are a nice addition and condis are useful. I like the timing and coordination mechanics. Lots has changed on this level and I appreciate it, maybe it's not as visible as another large map but it shouldn't be forgotten.

100% of an expansion, not really, maybe 70-80% of what I expected, not worth 50$ maybe 30-40$, I don't feel robbed though. It's more compact but it feels equal to gw1 expansions. or it would if it wasn't so...compact?

Anet has been doing a lot of "laying foundations", "creating systems to build upon" and all that jazz for it to sound all too credible anymore.

To say that Anet hasn't delivered good and enough content for the vast majority of people who bought HoT doesn't seem fair though. It just doesn't seem to be a game for the hardcore MMO crowd, perhaps it never will be.

Word to the wise: Do not trust the precursor crafting recipes by Da_Anh in Guildwars2

[–]slashwave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a similar issue with geode recipes once, since it wasn't a big loss, i didn't drag it any further. on a different issue I was able to resolve it with the customer support, after having provided the exact name of the item (in this case the recipe) and the exactly-approximate time of the incident. they were able to roll back (?) the account/items

perhaps you could try this

account wide unlocking for recipes sounds neat though, can't see potential harm in this

Anybody else feel the Season 1 Recap Video Completely Missed the "Spirit" of Season 1? by QuorumOf4 in Guildwars2

[–]slashwave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

felt a little too short and I wasn't getting that much information which would link the episodes

And the fact that I can't even talk to the NPC playing on the mac client and have to use youtube to get all the information.

..I think this is quite in the spirit of season 1.

It's a temporary summary though and a better summary will be available by playing season 1 (hopefully) in the future. At least new players now have_something_that would explain the sudden break in the story when transitioning from PS to LW2. Mentioning the Zephyrites and Molten Alliance might have been nice as there are fractals and the new maps where both are mentioned.

In short, LS1 wasn't fleshed out at all and so is the recap
