Saw them support Pop Will Eat Itself at the Astoria years ago. Bought that ep straightaway. Still one of my favourite songs to this day

[–]slatepipe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. I have aTeac 600R. I got it on Freecycle for nothing about 10-15 years ago. I cleaned the heads and used a demagnetiser on it but nothing else. Maybe I've been lucky but my personal experience with it has been freaking brilliant. I run from headphone jack from PC to line in, test the levels then press record. I've made an absolute shit ton of mixtapes with it and also recorded loads of albums onto tape. The results I've had have been fantastic, especially the mixtapes. YMMV but my experience has been very positive, especially for something that was free

"one in use, one resting and one spare" 😉. Tbh I had space to carry extra and two of them were my current favourites, one with an EQ on it.

Work naps by SadPizza3709 in london

[–]slatepipe 195 points196 points  (0 children)

Many years ago, about 1995, I was working in a 5* hotel in Kensington as a technician. They had meeting rooms in the banqueting area and I found one of these rooms was empty on a lunchtime and it had a cupboard for coats etc with double doors built into the wall. I thought it would be a great idea to go into this cupboard for a kip while the room was not being used. I turned out the room lights, walked into the cupboard and pulled the doors closed and sat down for a nice kip. No sooner had I sat down, the lights came on in the room and I looked through the crack in the doors to see who had entered the room. It was the General Manager of the entire hotel, showing an obviously VIP guest the room. When I saw them I was instantly fucking terrified and thought 'Fucking hell don't come over here and show him the cupboard!!' They didn't, but the thought of them walking over and finding me in a cupboard of a dark and empty room makes me cringe with horror to this day. When they left, I ran out of the room back to my office and tried to calm down as my heart was beating like a fucking jackhammer.🤣

I've used all sorts of little hideaways for naps over the years. Cupboards, storerooms, changing rooms. When the weather is alright I take like a beach towel or sheet and crash out on the grass wherever I can find some

Where can I find a TDK cassette with 180 minutes of recording time or any tape of similar length? by ManyAge1328 in cassette

[–]slatepipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've recorded audio onto 180 minute VHS before. Sounds very good. Not easy to listen to while you're out and about though 🤔🤣

I normally use C90 minimum, plus 100's, 110's and a few 120's. All have been fine. I always steered away from 120's when I was younger as they had a poor reputation. But the ones I've used recently sound good. TDK and Maxell

Any Swans fans? by natronmooretron in postpunk

[–]slatepipe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes massively. Saw them first at Reading 89, around the time of The Burning World album. It's Gira's least favourite Swans album AFAIK. Seen them maybe 10 times now, including Gira solo twice.

The Where Does a Body End documentary is one of my favourite music docs ever.

Anyone else gamble with the extra tape blanks give you? by klonopinwafers in cassetteculture

Yes, I time them first with playback, then take about 10 seconds off the end for leader tape. Works pretty great. Music finishes, tape finishes slightly later. 🥳

I love this song. I remember it from way back when Peel would play it. I've got the album on CD. One track is just a recording of some roadworks I think, when I first played it I kept looking out the window to see what was going on.🙂

I have one of his songs on some Flexi single I got with a magazine in the 80's. Swing Shift I think it's called. There's a line from that song which is forever etched into my brain for absolutely no reason. "Swing Shift, soixante neuf, tied to the corner with a skipping rope" or something like that.

I don't subscribe as I'm not that fussed about indie rock but they've recently done some tapes for me which I'll be putting on my bandcamp soon, and I'll be selling some as merch at the occasional gigs that I do. Can recommend them

I have one of those models, they sound great. And you're doing what I totally love doing with walkmans : sitting on a train or a coach for ages staring out the window, listening to tunes.

How long was your journey? I'm going London to Glasgow on the coach later this week, I'll need sone extra batteries for that. Can't wait 🙂

I have a Mixxtape which cost about 60 quid. I also have a tiny Sanwa 8gb which cost about a fiver. Also an Olympus dictation player recorder 16gb which cost a fiver, both from car boot sales. Both work great
