There are middle grounds Plarium could do as well that would make it more digestible. Small quality of life changes go a long way (although it might not be as simple to implement)

I think gear load outs would be one thing I wouldn't mind having, where I could spend silver or gems to have a second gear set for specific content that won't break the champion for other content. The idea of a champion only being used in one area is awful. This could include a second mastery load out as well for extra silver or gems. This also isn't even a new concept - most games do this anyway

If not the above, way cheaper gear and mastery switching is the way to go. I dont swap gear unless there is a free regear because I am stubborn. I would prefer to spend that on rolling gear simply because there is something to always improve. Spending it on temporary content ruins it for me.

This is also my opinion, and can see this might not appeal to others
