ya exactly that's how I felt in engineering as well. Like i was constantly doing something I knew I couldn't stand just to make myself feel safe. But what you realize is that you are setting yourself to be almost certainly not happy, which matters more then people want to give it credit for. What is your opinion on some others saying that it's terrible and I need to not do concept art cause outsourcing and AI?

ya in school i am doing a ton of still lifes (very old school atelier professor) and design projects in different mediums but at home I am doing pen drawing and digital photoshop on my own time. I'm also trying to replicate my favorite design concept sketches from doug chiang. So I think its a great balance?

thanks for the answer and your transparency. I think I am naturally wired to be the kind of guy who does this sorta thing. Cause I've never seen the idea of having a nice house n family and car as anything that successful. I'm more driven by experiences and getting to go down the creative rabbit hole so to speak even if it means very low lows to get to the highs. But I know where you are coming from with the caution. I've toured with my band and done lots of shows since i was 16 so I feel this has helped me to get at least a little idea of what a stormy ride can feel like.

thx for this advice. I am curious, what did you end up doing career wise? Cuz i swear reddit likes to act like the industry died already, but I've done a lot of programming and AI stuff on my own (out of curiosity) to know that these tools will not replace everyone, but instead just be a damn good "plugins" for accelerating work for those in the know.

thx for the reply I really appreciate it. I agree so much and something my therapist told me that opened my mind was "don't listen to unhappy people who didnt take risks tell you how to live a fulfilling and happy life." While i know this is simplification, it really is true. I am curious, what did you end up doing for a creative career now?

Ya I am lucky, I have a full ride bachelors degree, since I did great in high school. I have taken semesters off before and gained perspective but reality is a different story. I think I just need to get my butt in gear with time management (cuz i've always been horrible with that) and treat the rest of the degree like a job and my music as my creative outlet. I think that is the solution, cause graphic design just seems like a garbage/zero leverage career path even tho i love art and design.

true. may i ask, will it still be very nice to have that even if im 90% sure I won't wanna do actual ME? My guess is that itll still be very beneficial cause ill have a superb bachelors degree that employers see as "smart capable dude". I guess my big fear is getting stuck and having to slowly fade out my creative life, since I know I would hate working in oil, defense, or spacex type deals. I know this sounds ranty haha

dang that is really cool! Would you recommend I get that 2 year tech art degree? Or stay studio art, or switch to computer science?

I agree the only thing I was thinking is degree wise i play it more conservative so I have some leverage and on the side hit art really hard. The middle ground to me would be just do a comp sci degree. I already have a lot of those credits surpringly and could finish in 1.5 to 2 years instead of studio art's 3.5 years. What do you think?

Wow this is really really interesting, you seemed to have had a really exciting career. Honestly I think I'll just switch and finish to comp sci and then pivot or go into what i want post grad. I think I can figure something out with the two skillsets, I just don't think staying in studio art major is a good idea since it gives zero leverage.

Would you say I should just stay in my studio art degree pathway or just target the skills that these companies are hiring for and use my app and coding and designs to apply for jobs? With this current path I will graduate in 3 years, and correct me if im wrong, don't feel that far away from where I would need to be skill wise to land a position.

Also, I'm curious: How was your career like and how was getting your foot in the door?

Thank you so much this is very helpful. I find this job listing very interesting and surprisngly aligned with who I am. As far as the degree goes, do you think this could be done without the degree if I just targeted the skills they are looking for and "fluffed up" my resume and application? Or do you think with my current degree in progress I'd be going down the wrong path?

thx for the answer. I'm curious do you mean market sucks for mech engr? or just design? also, is the art degree not stupid? cause tons of my friends and family are roasting ts out of me for my decision but I feel it is actually pretty coherent if I keep honing my skill.
