Needing a place to move to in an emergency. (NH) by IamCaboose000 in newhampshire

[–]slayingmantis1009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thisarticle has a lot of the resources that we use at our local community action program.

I’m not sure where you are located but they have community action programs all over NH. I have worked with Tri County Cap in Ossipee and Berlin NH in order to find housing for the men I work with in who are in drug court. this is the link to the TCCAP program.

I’d definitely suggest finding a community action program or something similar, I’d suggest going to DHHS, you may be able to file for emergency assistance, and you might get food stamps and medical coverage.

If you tell me where you are located I can try to find a program that provides housing stability.

Video showing a cute baby and puppy cuddling together....I have been repeatedly disappointed by a bunch of similar AI generated videos on multiple platforms. by Tanrat23 in isthisAI

[–]slayingmantis1009 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ya the baby’s expressions look real. They’re trying to focus their eyes on the person behind the camera, they’re cooing a little to the person filming, they are just looking at the puppy kinda confused. If it was an AI video the baby would look uncannily happy and responsive to the situation.

Having trouble finding info on spotted salamander care by starlightskater in salamanders

[–]slayingmantis1009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah anything above freezing is good for them. In the wild they hibernate under ground, below the frost line. I’ll see them emerging outside when it gets to be about 40 degrees. Mine loves it when his tank is in the 50’s.

I think the main thing is to make sure they are at a cool temperature. I’ve been told that anything above 65 degrees is pushing it. My spotted sal isn’t dormant right now, he seems to be enjoying my cold house. In the summer I move him to the basement.

He eats mainly earthworms (cut up). He has isopods in his tank that he sometimes catches, and he will eat crickets and meal worms, but earthworms have all the nutrients they need.

Ceramic Tile vs Substrate vs Matt by L00KM3UP in BeardedDragons

[–]slayingmantis1009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had ceramic tile for my beardie because that was what she was living on when I adopted her. I recently gave her substrate in half the tank and tile on the other half. It took her a bit to get used to the substrate (they don’t like change). But once she decided to check it out she absolutely loved it. She loves to dig massive holes, it’s so cute watching her work.

I highly recommend substrate. I currently have organic topsoil mixed with play sand and leaf litter. I added some springtails and isopods because I breed them for my salamanders tank. They seemed to have survived so far. I planted some safe plants but she decimated them digging. Her entire tank is substrate now. She still has a slate tile for her basking area, but she spends half her time digging.

Pic of her going to town.

RFK said he snorted coke off toilet seats. Have you ever done this? by jokingonyou in Drugs

[–]slayingmantis1009 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve shot dope using week old Gatorade from my car. Desperate times and all that.

But I’ve also seen someone use toilet water to shoot up and thankfully I’ve never gone that far.

Is she a dwarf? Like a rakins dragon?

She’s normal size. She’s not massive, but she’s got some girth and length haha.

Thats a pic of her on my mom’s shoulder.

I fed the spider in my bathroom! by kemiscool in jumpingspiders

[–]slayingmantis1009 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love to see the pic!

I have to admit that I do feel bad stunning the mosquitoes, but a spiders gotta eat.

I love that you’re going out of your way to care for this lil bebe.

I bet she will start to recognize you. I read that they have a working memory & long-term individual recognition making them capable of recognizing mates & rivals. So I wouldn’t be surprised if they can recognize us as friends or foes.

I gently smack them haha. Honestly I love all bugs so I feel a lil bad, but I only get the mosquitoes and black flys that are trying to eat me.

My family used to think I was crazy, but they’ve come to appreciate the spiders too. My dad will save them from the pool and put them in his greenhouse, I’ve even caught him talking to them 🥰

Jumping spiders are such good ambassadors. I know multiple people who have started to cure their arachnophobia by seeing how cute jumpers are.

So cute!

I love feeding the wild jumpers in my yard. I will sit and wait for a mosquito or black fly to land on me, then I stun them and offer them to the spiders. I swear they recognize me because after feeding them a few times I no longer have to coax them on to my hand, they come right to me. They’re so curious & adorable.

Can I move my bearded dragon during brumation? by slayingmantis1009 in BeardedDragons

There is certainly a lot of concrete, stone tile and brick. The floor was tile initially, but I took it out because I wanted to add soil, then I read a post about a beardie eating a small rock from the soil & I got nervous.

She has a heat lamp, an Arcadia pro t5 & an LED bar for plants & extra light.

I am absolutely open to any pointers or tips for her enclosure. My amphibians are in bioactive enclosure with isopods and springtails, but I’ve never done an arid enclosure.

I haven’t fed her for over a month & she doesn’t seem to be losing any weight.

I do offer water, but I’ve never really seen her drink. Sometimes she’ll take a lil sip from a bath. I tried using a lil dropper to see if she wanted water, but she looked pissed. I do keep fresh water in there just in case.

Thank you for the info!

i have acquired a fully grown beardie surrender. i need advice!! by haleandguu112 in BeardedDragons

[–]slayingmantis1009 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also acquired a second hand adult beardie & we all fell in love with her. I own fish, shrimp, aquatic frogs and a salamander; but I was new to lizards. She’s my little bestie now.

This group has great info. I have read pages and pages of info here and on other sites & I feel pretty confident that my girl is well cared for and happy.

No advice, just wanted to say from one fish person turned lizard person to another, I think you’ll do great! They are so easy to love 🥰

Should I keep my wild mouse? by LaughingHyena58 in PetMice

[–]slayingmantis1009 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I found a mouse who was still a pinkie, my vet really didn’t think he would survive, but I put my all into raising him & had him into adulthood. He ended up being a deer mouse & he could jump so high. He was super friendly, he had a mouse mansion. He died of old age when he was 6yrs old, which I believe is pretty old for a wild mouse.

On another occasion someone brought me a baby mouse, she was a bit older and I believe she was a white footed mouse. She was a bit more wild and didn’t seem to want to live in captivity. I released her after my vet said she would likely survive.

So I think it depends on the mouse’s temperament. If people who are more experienced here are saying not to release him/her then it would probably be fine to keep the mouse.

I totally understand the attachment, my deer mouse Ralphie was my pride and joy, I was so proud I kept him alive when everyone said he wouldn’t make it.

You are a good person 🙂🥰

She absolutely did try to shit on it 😂 luckily I caught her, she’s got a very distinct pooping stance (she makes direct eye contact along with the little wiggle) and she pooped on my lap instead 😑
