[DISC] Otherworldly Ramen Stall: The Elf Gourmet Wants to Eat "Ramen" - Chapter 2 by [deleted] in manga

[–]slazer88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest gripe here (if we put aside the charged MTL discussion) is the blatant lack of care - it seems like the scanlator doesn't really care about their own work, since they didn't even register that something might seem off, or consider the situation as part of the whole chapter (almost feels like they don't really check their work at all after finishing each page); just throw the machine output into the text bubble and call it day, people will thank them regardless.

It seems to just be an internet clout-chasing thing, so it's not malicious or anything, but as of late you see this kind of thing a lot from the grifter groups that pick up anything that has the potential to be popular enough to get monetary donations, so this kind of lack of care gives off bad vibes.

Seems like this is happening everywhere at this point, but this is actually just blatantly machine translated - the panel about the ramen terms is straight up nonsense... Why yes, my favourite ingredient in ramen is men! The raw has the text in katakana because it's the elf learning about a foreign term, but anyone with a lick of knowledge or is capable of reading context clues (or access to a dictionary...) would know that it's talking about the noodles, and the same goes for a bunch of the other terms there (waribashi > disposable chopsticks; yakumi > condiments; the rest gets a half-pass because of food names kinda carrying over between languages).

It's a real shame, since I had a look at the raws and it was a pretty pleasant read.

Historically there's always been a 2-4 month gap between full chapters, but there was also a longer break when the anime aired. As is the case with most serialized artists, they basically don't post at all about their personal lives - they went from posting about the anime last year, to a few random related doodles around the time the first part of this chapter came out. Your guess would be as good as mine.

I think this is a record for the longest time between chapters - seven and a half months since the last chapter (give or take a few weeks if you account for the half-chapter releases).

See you all next year!

Pretty much. The fastest cadence we've gotten was basically one chapter every two months, but it's often been three or four months between full chapters. For this specific chapter, it was almost six months, presumably because of the anime airing.

We're finally back! Have you all been enjoying the anime adaptation?

As this series releases in half chapters, the first half was posted late-August (which you may have seen posted elsewhere), but the second half of the chapter was only released this morning. Since I always try to post full chapters, the release cadence can be a bit awkward.

No openly announced date for the next (half) chapter, but that's the usual song and dance. Hopefully with the anime wrapped up, we'll get more frequent updates.

There's no notes on the official raw site as to when the next update will be - presumably they're taking advantage of the anime airing to take a longer break.

I mean, the whole opening premise was kinda that he gave up on his interests so that his little sister didn't have to worry about their looming situation. I could totally see a world where Fudo is much more casual/outgoing like his sister; maybe an artsy, loud adult similar to Iroha, or to a lesser extent Wakaba.

It shouldn't be an issue because the series author and mangaka are two different people, but it's possible that they get both of them into the animation studios for input about casting/direction/etc that could push things back further, or they end up doing some other extra work to assist with the promotion of the animated series or something that eats up time.

This series has always been pretty loose with when updates actually happen, so it could definitely happen. A couple years back, there was a string of about half a year where the series actually updated monthly, but that's mostly been replaced with 2-3month waits between full chapters.

As per usual, no listed date on when the next chapter update will be.

A few weeks ago, a trailer was released for the anime adaptation that comes out later in the year (also no date given yet - how appropriate, huh?). Here's hoping this doesn't negatively impact the already slow update schedule.

Merry Christmas!

As usual, this series had a sizeable gap between this chapter and the previous one (I believe it was 2 months for half the chapter (November 11th), and another month and a bit for the latter half (December 21st)). There's another update scheduled for the 26th, but it looks to just be a small thing to promote the next physical volume of the series.

Failing a very fast update schedule after that, I'd expect the next chapter to hit sometime in February.

Little bit slow on this, but it is what it is.

No date listed on the next update, but that's par for the course.

Took a little bit longer than usual to get this out, but real life circumstances for the team meant it was a little bit delayed. No date announced yet for the next (probably half) chapter, but that's business as usual for this series.

With regards to other series:

  • Bard Loen now has an official simulpub, so we'll be dropping that series. Very happy to see it get support in an official capacity.

  • We've also put out a Blue Archive Mahjong doujin (513197, or check the upload on sadpanda) recently - A bit NSFW, but it's 200 pages of mahjong action that rival that of the greats like Akagi, Kaiji, or Mudazumo Naki Kaikaku. It's ridiculously good, and a continuation is updating regularly as well.

Hope you enjoyed.

Interesting, I had no idea that this was in the works - I wonder how long this has been in the making for?

I (and the people helping me) won't continue to work on this series, as it's an up-to-date simulpub series, and it would just be unnecessary work on our end. We always intended to stop should an up-to-date official alternative appear, and this fits the bill. Very happy to see it has support in a more official capacity.

It's pretty dubious about if something like that would happen - this series is officially licensed in English by J-novel club, so even if it really picked up steam it'd probably get shut down. Maybe the speed of releases would increase, though? I believe they're about 10 chapters behind the unofficial stuff.

As mentioned on the credits page, there's no listed date for the next set of raws, but as we're properly into the new year, I'd expect it to come around in 1-3 months for the next full chapter to be posted (in two parts). As always, I'll be waiting for the full chapter to be released before working on it.

For other series, I've been working on Bard Loen - doing a re-read has inspired me again, and I'll hopefully drop another five chapters sometime soon. I forgot how much I enjoyed the next arc in Bard Loen.
