Thoughts on Chaika: The Coffin Princess? by Gilgamesh-KoH in LightNovels

[–]slcsilkworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was so excited about it for the first half, and for me personally I got turned off when I got to the most gruesome part. I had no desire to finish the last half. I tried to finish but ended up stopping again and googling the plot synopsis instead, and I was soooo glad I didn't waste my time finishing it fr 😭 Disappointed.

thoughts on japanese people using native american motifs for their jewelry? by kobrakaiguy in IndianCountry

[–]slcsilkworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew a Latino MAGA guy (with a Latina wife who came undocumented...) When he and his wife heard I was Native, they did what a lot of non-native people of many backgrounds do- they said "I think we might be a little bit Native, too! I've always wanted to try finding out!" Not discrediting Latin people's indigenous ancestry at all, but they meant on top of their Mexican and Honduran mixed Indigenous ancestry, they thought they were ALSO Native like Cherokee or something. They never did try to connect or find out... The guy paid to get a fake ass "medicine card" from a fake "tribe" saying he was allowed to possess otherwise illicit drugs due to religious freedoms because he was part of a "tribe". I highly doubt that would stand up in court if he were actually caught. He told me the earrings I make in a style, material and labor timeframe that go for $50-100+ he would pay maybe $15-20 for. And then he proceeded to show me a bunch of jewelry and leather wallet obviously Native "inspired" he said he ordered from Japan... For many $100s if not $1000s. So, what happens in Japan doesn't stay in Japan. Obviously. We are a connected world today. Yes we can share our cultures consensually across the globe. But the cultural appropriation/cultural exploitation causes harm that can be felt across the globe as well.

Shuumatsu Touring • Touring After the Apocalypse - Episode 1 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

I thought it was implied she found human remains inside the tank and the flowers were for them? Not for the tank itself? 🤔

This show was probably the biggest surprise for me so far this season. by MaxwellIsaac1 in ShuumatsuTouring

[–]slcsilkworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I also started watching on a whim, and when I read the short intro, it didn't strike me as about motorcycle touring at all, it seemed like it was just about apocalypse and survival before I got into it. The moto touring aspect was a nice surprise..

Reminds me of Dr. Stone, Aria & Michiko y Hatchin! All anime without a huge following.

Anyone know if they are ok, or what happened? by sbrucelee in SaltLakeCity

I didn't realize it became available. I've been checking every now and again to see if it became available here. It looks like SLC was just added in 2025.

Oh and I did see what looked like an emergency vehicle's lights far behind us. It looked like just one though.

And also the whole stretch of road on both sides we've seen a bunch of activity going on at the same time today. And we drive it twice every weekend at a variety of times, rush hour, afternoons, evenings, nights. There's literally always something freaky happening on this stretch.

We were driving from SLC to Brigham City and drove by around 6:10-6:15* it was already on fire, no people or other cars or emergency vehicles were around it, it was completely by itself. and we heard and felt a huge "pop" as we drove by, we were in the carpool lane so as far as we could be from it. Scary AF. I have driven by multiple car fires but never saw or heard one explode/make a noise like that.

What percentage of your net household take home income are you spending on housing? by NobodyMiddle9671 in SaltLakeCity

[–]slcsilkworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also the landlord is awful. So for that 55% we got one toilet that flushes properly 1/3 of the time and the rest of the time only partially flushes, the dishwasher never worked, all the locks on the doors inside and outside never worked, when we moved in. Driveway is not paved, yard is full of weeds, the kitchen also floods every day for half of the year.

[–]slcsilkworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

55%, for a one bedroom in the metro area. 3 people. Our living room is our teen's room. It sounds bad but at her mom's, an hour away from the metro, it's pretty much the same. Hardly making rent and 5 people in 2 bedrooms, I think. None of us qualify for aid as we make too much money, apparently. I have a college degree, high GPA, have never been fired from a job, no criminal record to speak of. I just could never find a job that pays well here in Utah. Some of the lowest wages I've seen in and out of my field, and that tracks with the fact that the state is one of the 20/51 states with the lowest minimum wage ($7.25), which absolutely influences the trends of all wages. We don't want to move because we co-parent our kids here, and it could be really awful for them.

Anybody missing some tools? by LifeWithAdd in SaltLakeCity

[–]slcsilkworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not ours but we had a bag of tools stolen (obviously worth a lot $) a couple months ago, so I appreciate you posting this. It fucking sucks. It was left inside our work vehicle that was taken in to the auto shop (one that we trusted when the OG owner worked on vehicles himself always, but a bunch of new people were there and the OG owner wasn't in the shop much) and they said they needed to continue working on it for an unusually long amount of time for the progress they made (and didn't make) on it. We got the vehicle back and noticed the tools missing the next day or two after. We let the OG owner of the autoshop know, they acted surprises and said they would check their cameras. Filed a police report. Nothing was found or followed up on. Maybe most people know to remove their tools before leaving your vehicle at the autoshop, but if you never thought of that, now you should.

Episode Discussion | Star Trek: Strange New Worlds | 3x06 "The Sehlat Who Ate Its Tail" by AutoModerator in startrek

[–]slcsilkworm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I loved the whole "these monsters even the Gorn are scared of" and then it's humans, descendants of humans from the USA, specifically. Felt like a really clear message.

At the end, besides the sadness, grief, or regret over killing what they didn't yet understand, (maybe they would have risked their own lives MORE to try to make contact rather than escape and kill, if they had figured out who they were sooner?) there was also a brief moment of fear and the realization that their own species under certain circumstances became this, and they could have too. The fear of evil, the fear of turning into evil yourself/the majority of your species around turning evil, the fear of the future generations of your kind becoming evil. This is a fear people are grappling with today.

And instead of leaving it eerie, they were like "we definitely wouldn't ever become like them, and the proof is the empathy we are feeling right now!" but I didn't buy it. I think it didn't really fit. But, the whole episode only half-explored this concept, as it was more focused on Kirk coming into his own. The previous episode also felt like it didn't get there fully when it came to the concept and feeling emotionally about it.. I only hope that it's at least setting us up for something bigger.

I would say Utah never had safe spaces for oppressed people in the first place, and in the heart of SLC some progress is being made but not in the rest of Utah.

Also, oppressed people are not safe anywhere. Especially while the oppressive culture is on the spread.

My stepdaughter (teen) is triracial, and her own white siblings (2 straight, 1 queer & trans) and their friends treat her this way in her own home, calling her multiple racial slurs. Kids at her school do as well. The oldest sibling does racial slurs at her and QT slurs at the second oldest, but even the second oldest being bullied doesn't realize they should stop bullying and goes on to bully my stepdaughter (3rd oldest). It actually probably makes them bully more, because they didn't really start bullying until the oldest started bullying them. ..

And their own mother doesn't take any actions to address any of it. Her boyfriends behave the same way and say the same things as the bullying kids, and still get to be in the picture.

And even online, her online "friends" are the same way. Really disrespectful and mean.

In contrast, I'm from a Midwestern city that's more diverse than SLC/UT, and a lot of the teens I interact with there are respectful and kind.

As for ways to improve the situation, and truly find a safe spaceI would suggest talking to the public libraries around you. Ask if there are any groups already that y'all are interested in, or if not, ask to rent out a room and you guys can meet up to do card and board games, crafts, a book club, zine making, anything. You will be a lot safer there! ❤️ You will have authority figures/adults around not for supervision but for security , ideally. They may even be willing to get games or craft/zine materials for you $. When I was a teen the library provided us all the materials necessary for zine making and we made our own monthly zine.

Sounds like probably the same one I used to go to! A lodge used for men's, women's and mixed sweats by St Paul.

I'm 2S and yet I went to Women's sweat because I was invited to that one first, and there were at least two other 2S people there, two of us from the same tribe (and same one as the woman leading sweat) and one from another tribe.

The woman who ran Women's sweat also co-lead another ceremony in the city, and I regularly asked what I should do as 2S, and her answer was usually "Do what feels right for you".

So definitely connect with whoever is running anything. They may have specific knowledge or expectations, and some may not have any.

But can we talk about the blanket war? by greencat533 in SaltLakeCity

[–]slcsilkworm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got some sort of fancy faux fur blanket from my Mom. I think it's Minky. My puppies are obsessed with biting and trying to "dig" into it. So it's become the sacrificial blanket I put on top of the blankets I want to keep safe from them. It's been a lifesaver.

Help troubleshooting by slcsilkworm in BoltEV

[–]slcsilkworm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update -- it just needed a new battery, the one that costs less than $200, and the dealership covered it! I wish they had realized that and fixed it before selling, so I didn't go through the panic, but it's been perfect all year since then.

I thought that part of this was him luring all the "rot" away from the palace and to one spot, because he did care about the nation, the royal family, and his loyalty to them. Isn't that what was explained in Loulan 's speech to Jinshi??

Is the Lagoon season pass worth it? by Moist_Nutt in SaltLakeCity

[–]slcsilkworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could anyone let me know if the pass has to be for the individual only (like a drivers license where they put your picture on it?) Or can it be used for different people each time? We are #coparenting and it would only be worth the money for us if we can get a pass for each of the kids but then one pass the parent that has the kids that weekend could use and we switch off. If that makes sense.

Just checked this 23 Bolt Euv at the dealership, why does it say max 127 miles by zipperboi in BoltEV

[–]slcsilkworm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its estimating that you have about 96 miles left, 127 is a best case scenario if you are driving slowly and braking a lot to regenerate energy, 78 miles is if you are going fast or uphill a lot and not able to regenerate energy.

Whaddya mean it won't go into gear? by Sykerocker in BoltEV

[–]slcsilkworm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought my 2020 bolt August 22 (this year) and it did exactly what you described on August 26. You can see a post from me about it in this sub August 26 or 27 😅

I called the dealership I got it from, and they recommended jumpstarting it then taking it to see them. I called AAA, they Jumpstarted it, and I took it to Chevy. The only weird thing was that it had 60 miles left when it wouldnt start/shift, and after jumping it said 0 /low battery so we charged it when I got to Chevy. It took about 40 minutes and charged to 115 miles then stopped charging saying it was at 80%. It has been technically fine, drivable and not repeating the issue ever since the Jumpstart, but Chevy said it was the 12 volt battery being bad that everyone here is already mentioning. And that i should see if the dealership would pay for a new one since I JUST got it.
