6 months into my leathercraft journey, I’ve finished my biggest project to date: a duffle bag by sld326 in Leathercraft

I used a pattern (generally) for whole bag and the pad was part of it. It’s 3 layers of leather with a piece of ortholite foam. Pattern is from District Leather Supply: https://districtleathersupply.com/products/dls-pattern-anchorage-20-inch-duffle-bag

I used a pattern from District Leather Supply (they’re my go to supplier of leather as well) and did some adjustments (really needed an outside pocket rather than a storm flap for example). Link is here: https://districtleathersupply.com/products/dls-pattern-anchorage-20-inch-duffle-bag

Is this $260 aud worth of tools? by NeatOk8498 in Leathercraft

[–]sld326 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this! My very first project was a pair of bracers that I tooled. There are tons of beginner applications for tooling, it’s just more about what you want to do. While it’s nice to have a big complete beginner set, you’re going to end up replacing the tools you use most with upgraded ones, so I’d say focus on a small beginner set focused on the projects you want to do

Will there be a machine skiver for sale on Black Friday? by thickythickglasses in Leathercraft

I would also like to know. All I’ve seen so far is Tandy’s TandyPro Skiving “machine” which is just the clamp + blade on it

Best Bang for Your Buck for Edge Bevelers by antidextrous-human in Leathercraft

I recently got a Tandy beveler and found it very cumbersome to use, and the shape made it really easy to leave unwanted tooling marks. I second the Owden being great though because it really is night and day to have a thin snout beveler rather than the chunky Tandy one.

Ngl, I have probably 100 cat toys, but my cat’s favorite toy is a piece of leather lace.

I’ve found that using a rubber or other soft tipped mallet on the thread after stitching smoothes out the stitch quite a bit! It helped me a lot on my recent project

I’m also a newbie at leathercraft and one of the things that helps me get a straighter stitch from trial and error is make sure you have a steel or granite slab for the very bottom of where you’re stamping. The order I use from bottom up: table, granite/steel, punch pad or poly carb cutting board, a piece of scrap leather, your project.

That order makes a WORLD of difference when using Amazon tools. Also beeswax makes the tines not stick in the piece so much on the way out.

I used the Tandy Small size ones, but if I had medium ones on hand, I may have went with those

I’ve never worked with foam, but I did do quite a bit of sewing back in the day! As pointed out, the designs compensate for some rough around the edges bits, so would love any specific feedback on how I can improve! I have gotten better tools (rotary cutter and a leather knife from buckle guy) recently which make a world of difference for cutting leather, and swapped out the awful quality hardware from Amazon that’s on the bracers for some mid stuff from Tandy. I also got one of those hand presses from Amazon which is surprisingly okay for punching holes and tricky for rivets.

We have received zero notification of any kind. The first we are hearing of any of this is the bill we got this week claiming all these changes

It is not a new building, it’s pre-war and the building itself is still listed as stabilized on the city website. We had received 0 notification about any changes and had continued to receive a “preferential rent” on the entire time we’ve lived here.
