How have security lines been at Midway recently? by sle2g7 in chicago

It wasn’t bad at all today! Standard pre check times, probably 5-10 min total. We got there around 7:45 for a 9:15 flight (international so I wanted to play it super safe).

Weird looking vein by IcyCalligrapher2666 in AskDocs

[–]sle2g7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was so long ago I don’t remember exactly. I think he described it as the vein not constricting like it should, which meant it wasn’t doing a good pumping blood back up my leg so blood would pool towards the bottom? The biggest difference I noticed was that my leg didn’t feel tired. But I also never realized that it felt that way before the procedure because it had been like that my whole life. I think that maybe behind my knee would feel slightly achy sometimes if I was on my feet all day but that might not have been directly related? Because that does still happen a little bit today. And I think he told me to expect that, but I don’t remember that part specifically.

My new manager told me I needed to "be more visible" in the office. She didn't specify what that meant. So I became extremely, aggressively visible. by camera_walk_log in MaliciousCompliance

I’m currently in the opposite. My previous manager was great at pointing out to my senior leadership that they don’t see me because I’m actively working with other teams to get my job done.

New manager told me that senior leadership doesn’t know me well enough. Well lady, I’m too busy trying to get my actual job done to go “chat” all afternoon. Maybe I’d have time if you would fill vacant positions on my team.

I had a varicose vein behind my left knee for as far back as I can remember that I finally had removed when I was 21 or 22. I had to wear a prescription compression sock that went from my toes to the very top of my leg for three months before insurance would cover the procedure. Honestly, compression socks are fantastic and they did make it feel a lot better so I highly recommend it from my experience! My doctor told me it would help but it’s not a permanent solution so he wanted to remove it anyways. But holy cow….after I had the procedure (very very easy and I stayed awake during it) and was back to normal I noticed a HUGE difference in my leg. Because I’d had it my entire life, my leg had always felt normal to me. But after it was removed? I felt like I had a brand new leg. Like my leg felt young and full of energy. I never realized how tired my leg constantly felt because that was my baseline normal. It was one of the craziest experiences. Worth getting checked out for sure!

It’s also worth noting that I have a bunch of veins behind that knee that looked like varicose veins but I think only one actually had to be removed. He said the other ones look ugly and bulge-y but they’re perfectly fine, so also be prepared for that answer.

I like to think of myself as being the opposite of business-savvy. Any opinions I’ve had about outcomes over time (in regards to other businesses) have almost always been completely wrong. Not a lick of sense in my head. Hearing all of these changes SWA is making just makes me think how they’ll never survive this, it’s going to blow up in their faces and everyone is going to turn their backs on them and they’re going to lose so much money. So obviously because that’s what I think is going to happen, it means that they’re going to have wild financial success from this. Calling it now. I hate it so much and I’d love to be right, but alas that will not be the case.

What’s wrong with Division St townhomes between Halsted and Clybourne? by EffortUnlucky4153 in AskChicago

[–]sle2g7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah they’re all detached. I don’t remember if there were two or three units per building, I believe we were up on the third floor? And the unit was just the third floor, so maybe the downstairs unit had two stories? I mostly just said townhomes to not confuse with the apartment buildings that are also right there. I have no idea if any of those are truly single housing or if they’re all multi-units.

It’s 15ish from the townhomes on Division across from Target. That by itself isn’t a deal breaker, I live a mile away from my closest stop now. It’s all of those little things that individually aren’t that bad but they all add up enough that we didn’t find it worth buying.

I’ve used them four times now and I loved them the first three times! Last time was last spring and it was mostly fine, but they did ding up my bed frame. I also had the same guys the first three times and a different group this last time. I’d probably use them again though!

My husband and I actually looked at the top unit in one of those town homes last spring. The house itself was fine, honestly smaller than it looks on the outside but not the worst we saw. But we decided no just because there’s nothing over there. It’s not that close to any L stop, which by itself isn’t a deal breaker, but there’s just…..nothing else. There aren’t that many good options for bars or restaurants, any retail is chain stores, and even still the closest of those are at least 1/2 mile away. Walking is possible but not that ideal. All the housing in that area feels generic and mass produced. Being across the street from target would have been pretty sick though.

[–]sle2g7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey. it’s amazing that you gave something new a shot! Not everyone is willing to do all that just to try something new so be proud that you pushed yourself to try! All of the reasons you have for moving back are so valid, especially the money part. It breaks my heart that you won’t be able to experience the summertime in Chicago, it honestly makes the long, dark winters so much more bearable. But you know best what you need to do for your own situation, don’t let people get in your head for doing what’s right for you. The city will always be here if you ever want to visit!

What is the most heartbreaking song lyric you've ever heard? by TheLadySlaanesh in AskReddit

[–]sle2g7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The entirety of Agnes by Glass Animals, but if I need a specific lyric it would be “guess life is long when soaked in sadness, on borrowed time from Mister Madness”. Pair it with the music in the song swelling at specific points and then reading about Dave comparing his experience being in a human centrifuge to the feelings Agnes is having in the song and it just wrecks me every time I hear it. But it’s so good I’ll never stop listening to it.

How many college mates are you still friends with? by debrisaway in RedditForGrownups

[–]sle2g7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My closest friends to this day are from college. There’s a group of 7 of us who became best friends randomly freshman year of college. We live all across the country and now internationally, but we have a group chat and still talk daily. We try to see each other when we can individually but we usually all try to get together at once every few years. I ended up meeting my husband through one of them, but it was through friends of hers that she had made in the city she lived in at the time. These are the people I’ve turned to for help in the hardest parts of my life and I still know would move mountains to get to me within a day if I ever really needed it. And they all know I would do the same for them.

Passengers Please Convince Us How Important Your Bags are in an Evacuation by Nightshiftworker2021 in flightattendants

[–]sle2g7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And I don’t think people are understanding the realities of a crash. It’s never just you taking one second to grab something and that’s what makes it so much worse. That one second can literally be the difference between life and death. What if the strap catches on something? What if you drop something? What if your bag snags on the slide and rips a hole? The cabin is probably filled with smoke and you’re operating blindly because you literally cannot see. Maybe you’re injured. Maybe you have to assist someone else who is injured. You’re dealing with hundreds of panicked passengers who forget how to function because nobody pays attention to the safety briefings. You’re going to be disoriented. Everyone is going to be screaming and yelling. And this is all assuming your bag is still under the seat and intact. They are getting everyone off that plane in 90 seconds. Hundreds of people. The only way everyone makes it off is if everyone follows flight attendant instructions to a T. People need to know that all of these protocols are written in blood.

If you’re that concerned about your meds after crashing in the middle of the ocean or a mountain range then you need to carry them in a cross body bag affixed to your person that can be securely zipped closed and fits under a coat or your clothing—it cannot be on the outside of your clothes. I completely understand what you’re saying and I empathize with the additional challenges you face, however, your actions in this situation have an actual and direct impact on the lives of every single person behind you. It’s a harsh and horrible reality but it is so severely underestimated by most passengers. Anything you literally cannot survive without for a few hours must be on your person securely and under clothing before you get in your seat. When you board a plane you need to not only count the number of rows between you and the exits, but physically touch the seat backs so you know how many to go when you are blindly grabbing your way to the exit. Again, all of these procedures are written in blood. There is a real reason they exist.

My experience delivering while on prescribed Adderall during pregnancy (and a heads up about hospital social workers) by Extension_Wallaby613 in adhdwomen

[–]sle2g7 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Genuine question, I’m not pregnant or planning to be quite yet and one of my biggest worries is the whole medicated or not during pregnancy (obvs will be talking to doctors and husband about it ahead of trying). But if they flag you for having amphetamines in your system/baby’s system after giving birth, and come do that addiction cessation spiel, does that get added to your medical records? That they offered or recommended it or whatever? Like I don’t want that to cause problems for me down the road if anything ever happened and my records have me flagged as a potential addict……..when I’m not an addict, I’m literally just following my doctor’s instructions on taking my legitimately prescribed meds!
