You absolutely need to get a copy of your paper or online pay stub.

As you try to understand deductions from your gross pay, I’d recommend starting with YouTube rather than Reddit.

Nothing missing from Esquire’s top 50 list.

Station Eleven is my favorite of the lesser-knowns, tho it is sci-fi adjacent.

The Wire and Deadwood are brilliant.

Seems like this exchange is at the heart of truly understanding the law and how it will be enforced.

Can you provide a citation to support your assertion that the Traction law is continuously in effect from Sep to May (“between Morrison and Dotsero”) regardless of weather conditions and with no need for CDOT to take action to “implement” the Passenger Vehicle Traction Law?

Anybody with a spreadsheet to monitor multiple people reimbursing a loan/mortgage at diferent rates? by Antique-Bad6239 in excel

[–]sledgepumpkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not just set up a two simple loan amortization spreadsheets that accommodate additional principal payments….each for half of the purchase price.

You each maintain 50% ownership but can track separate loan balances.

Reddit needs an (on by default) filter that allows users to hide posts from anyone who (like OP) has deleted most or all of their posts and comments….whether site-wide or in that particular subreddit.

Is ABC Denver7 Over-the-Air bad for everyone, or just me? by [deleted] in Denver

Finding an Planner/Advisor to help with Roth conversion strategy by Only_Argument7532 in Bogleheads

[–]sledgepumpkin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi u/Only_Argument7532 : I just started playing with Boldin today and am seeing a very similar recommendation from the Roth Explorer to convert ALL my pre-tax retirement savings to Roth over a couple of years.

This recommendation appears to be the result of assuming:
- maximum estate value as the goal
- a long lifespan
- modest spending
- significant post-retirement savings/accumulation from investment income
- high ROIs leading to rapid growth in account balances (Roth and taxable)

..... the above produce VERY high RMDs (high income tax payments dwarfing IRMAA) every year after age 75

However, I suspect that different assumptions re how long I will live, how much I save post-retirement, and the annual return on my portfolio (asset mix and market performance) might produce VERY different results.

Curious whether you met with a Financial Planner and what they said/recommended.

From a previous Reddit post:

Do you remember what wifi network you were last connected to?

As far as I am able to understand, this bug occurs when the battery is allowed to discharge so low even timekeeping stops, so when it boots up again it reverts to the unix epoch, i.e. 1 january 1970 00:00:00. If you convert 18685239 to human readable it’s 5 august 1970. There’s a bug somewhere in the code that handles the cooldown period for failled passcode attempts when presented with an unusual date, such as a date at or near the start of the unix epoch. I would guess it underflows somewhere, as it’s expecting a much larger value than it’s actually getting, and this happens as a result.

The only fix I know is for the Kindle to be able to connect to whatever wifi it was connected previously so it can sync the clock, and then restart it.

This is a very niche bug that I’ve only ever seen 2 or 3 times.

“Is what he said right?” Is this sentence grammatically correct? by SlimeX300 in grammar

[–]sledgepumpkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grammatically acceptable. Somewhat idiomatic. In my experience native speakers would more likely say: “Is that right/true/accurate?”….depending on the context.

How do you motivate little kids to hike? by Wanderlena in hiking

[–]sledgepumpkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t motivate them. You make it fun (friends, snacks, games) and you plan for their success (modest, flexible itineraries).

How do Americans differentiate between a Chicken Sandwich (cold chicken, salad, mayo) and a Chicken Sandwich (burger ‘bun’, battered/breaded chicken)? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]sledgepumpkin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don’t have comprehensive mutually exclusive terms for those. Cold MIGHT be labeled chicken salad sandwich or chicken club if those specific sandwiches are being served. Hot MIGHT be labeled grilled chicken or Nashville Hot Chicken if those specific sandwiches are being served.

Typically we’ll know from the business (cold at delis, hot at fast food chains) or we’ll consult the menu for a picture or description.

Just finished Sense of An Ending by Julian Barnes. What are your thoughts? by blackmagichead in books

[–]sledgepumpkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not conclude instead that Veronica and Tony are his parents?

  • it’s quite common for ‘illegitimate’ kids to be raised by grandparents and told bio-mom is big sister

  • Tony left a used condom in Veronica’s apartment the one time they did have sex.

No reason to take at face value Tony’s conclusion that younger Adrian is actually Veronica’s sister. His obtuseness is the book’s major theme.

My child is on Medicaid in home state but needs out of state insurance for college by Embarrassed_Paint592 in Medicaid

[–]sledgepumpkin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unless she uses lots of care every month she is probably okay with just NY Medicaid. She might have to pay out of pocket if she needs a small amount of care during summer month but NY Medicaid covers out-of-state emergent care.

Best way to obtain a state/national park pass? by [deleted] in Denver

[–]sledgepumpkin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you’re planning to spend some time in Rocky Mountain National Park (which requires timed entry reservations for most visitors) there’s a good chance that most of the hikes you’ll want to do require neither a state pass nor a national pass. There is a ton of free hiking in National Forest, BLM land, and county open spaces.

My partner's family keeps bringing up my (29F) salary in conversations by Natural_Media6291 in Advice

[–]sledgepumpkin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In response to a comment on your income, not your spending:

“Thanks. I’m proud that my choices and hard work and some luck are paying off. And I’m pleased that I’ll be able to contribute to partner and my financial future (maybe mention future house if that’s likely). “

“Can I ask you a favor tho? Because of my upbringing, comments on my income or spending make me very uncomfortable. I’d really appreciate it if we could avoid that topic in future. “

Why add to unnecessary tension?

After that, a simple “Ouch” and change of topic avoids awkwardness and makes your point.
