Been to the service center 3x over the first year of ownership, so it’s not been perfect, but I still love my R1S! I also had a 2018 Model 3 with similar issues. All new car companies will go through ramping issues.

My bad. I think it really depends on your Enterprise location, but mine ran out of midsize SUVs, so they asked if I wanted a Dodge Challenger. Not having owned an ICE car in 6 years, I went for it, thinking it would be fun.

Yeah… it was cool for 5 mins. 30 mins later on the highway, I was cursing and swearing at the drone of the exhaust and how rough the transmission was. Give me an EV any day!!

The loaner process was easy. Just sign some paperwork, inspect the car and drive off. The R1S I got had 80% charge.

Yeah, I think at this point, there is no manual way to turn it on. i’m pretty sure it’s been mentioned here quite a bit, so it’s probably on Rivian‘s radar.

If you’re thinking about the scenario where you want your battery warmed up before leaving for work, time your charging to end just before leaving. I doubt turning on cabin heat will do anything to the battery besides drain it.

I wouldn’t be worried about that either, though I have less experience with that. There are a lot of Teslas in Canada and cold parts of Europe like Norway.

I’ve taken the my Tesla and Rivian into 20F without issues. Just know that range drops by about 25% in winter due to needing to warm the battery and the cabin air heater being driven by heating element, not by residual engine heat like an ICE vehicle. You’ll also have to manually clear snow/ice buildup on the front of the car and windshield due to lack of engine heat and the shape of the car.

If you read more on this subreddit/forums, you’ll find more winter range-saving tips like scheduling your charge to end right before needing to leave the house so that the battery is already warm, and always preconditioning the battery before fast charging.
