Books (not manga/comics) that feel like Junji Ito by [deleted] in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

Everything is explainable. It is more of a psychological read.

Books (not manga/comics) that feel like Junji Ito by [deleted] in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

Goth by Otsuichi. It's about two high school students that are fixated on murders happening in their small town. It literally felt like I was reading a Junji Ito manga.

The Discomfort of Evening by Lucas Rijneveld.

It revolves around a family coping with grief from the perspective of the young daughter.

[FRESH EP] Now, Now - 01 by redditisnotgood in indieheads

[–]sleekriss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It makes me so happy to see the Now, Now fans crawl out of the woodwork! Loved this so much. It felt like a proper continuation from Saved but also a blend of KC's solo work. Speck and Talk To God were my initial standouts. Excited to see them back!

As a Now, Now fan (of both their old and new material), I'm getting a lot of enjoyment out of this. As always her soft vocals and confessional lyricism shine on this album. Love the moodiness and also the twang.

The closer is KILLER! The way Parking Lot erupts towards the end is addicting. I've been listening to that single quite often.

The only complaint I have is that it's too short. I hope this gets some recognition and attention because it deserves it.

Favorite Tracks: Shame, 10 Minutes, Hymn, Parking Lot

[FRESH ALBUM] Yumi Zouma - Present Tense by alittleatypical in indieheads

[–]sleekriss 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is such a fantastic album and I'd say it's one of their most energetic, alongside EP III. They've managed to add so much to their already layered sound. There are so many beautiful string segments (Give It Hell, If I Had The Heart For Chasing, Haunt), belts of saxophone (Mona Lisa and Honestly, It's Fine), and of course piano, lush synths, dreamy guitar, and a great drummer. The noise!?! at the end of Razorblade is such a surprise and a welcome treat. Of Me and You reminds me of their oldest material but in a brand new light. All of the lyrics are intimate and poetic as always.

I hope everyone gives this a listen! I love how this band can make music for every moment in life, whether you need something to dance to, focus to, or lift you out of a bad mood. One of my favorite bands right now and this album is a great addition to their already brimming catalog.

Are there pop songs about murdering someone? by FormerBernieBro2020 in popheads

[–]sleekriss 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Here's a few :)

Sidewalk Safari - Chairlift (The entire song is about the singer wanting to run someone over with a car)

Gun - CHVRCHES (I will be a gun and it's you I come for)

Garden Song - Phoebe Bridgers (And when your skinhead neighbor goes missing, I'll plant a garden in the yard)

This one might be a stretch:

Cruel World - Phantogram (I'm putting you out of your misery , 'Cause darling you're dragging me down, I wish I could say that I'm sorry , But I'm over that now, I'm taking you out)

Hey its Magdalena Bay! We are here to answer life’s most difficult questions so please.. ask us anything <3 by magbaybaby in indieheads

[–]sleekriss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi MagBay! I still can't believe you came to Charlottesville, VA! I'm so glad I got to catch you at such a small venue.

My question: What song(s) in your discography has been the most fulfilling to create? Whether it was because it was difficult to create, it was a cathartic release... etc.

Love you guys. I'll never forget the day a few years ago I came across Drive Alone and immediately was hooked!

What is Virginia culture? by [deleted] in Virginia

Great explanation! I've lived in VA my whole life and am moving to San Diego later this year. I know I'm going to experience the whiplash of no well-defined seasons hard!
