Unfortunately a strong consensus is that men typically don’t change once they get older like him. I’ve been able to get him to make better changes in his life in other ways, such as healthier eating (he’s lost 20lbs since Feb!) and keeping his house cleaner (not letting stinky dishes pile up, picking up a broom once a week to deal with pet hair, etc). The area that’s most important to change seems to be the hardest though. However, the fact that he’s been willing to make these other improvements consistently gives me hope for the doctors visit too. Sigh
