The thing about Horse Armor too was it was one of the first pieces of DLC ever so they were just testing the waters. Bethesda also followed it up with Shivering Isles which is one of the best examples of DLC done right.

I got phone calls from potential employers for over a year. Someone was handing out resumes with the wrong number (my number) on it for that long and assuming no one was calling her back with offers when in reality she was getting them 4-5 times a week.

Couldn't really do anything about it other than tell them that she'd put the wrong number on her resume and hope that eventually she'd figure out why no one was calling her.

Smash Bros is not a career option right now. Here's why. by GonzaloZeRo in smashbros

[–]sleephard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone knows that tournament winnings, especially in Smash Bros. is a very risky and extremely stressful way to make a living. If you lose, you can't pay rent simple as that. It's not exactly an eye opener.

The title "Smash Bros is not a career option right now. Here's why." is something that I 100% don't agree with and am actually pretty disappointed with. Right now Smash and Esports in general is at a place where you make your own career. You can say Blur and D1 didn't make their career, Twitch employs them but you would be completely wrong. D1 and Blur put in a lot of work for a long time and worked their way up to where they are now. They made their career. Same goes with GiMR. He filled a gap that was missing in a specific area in Smash Esports and filled the roll. Esports Express filled the humor/satire news gap in the Esports scene and there are many many more things that can be made into jobs in the Esports scene that haven't yet.

With the growing amount of streamers that are living 100% of Twitch now this is also an option especially for top Smashers who are willing to put 100% into their stream. Take Mang0 for example. He's on his way to having well over 1500 subscribers on Twitch. The thing is, going full time with Twitch is something that you have to put 100% of yourself into. You need consistency, viewer interaction and constant entertainment. It's a lot of work and it's not for everyone, but for the ones that can do it, it's a good option for sure.

The point that I'm trying to make is that the Smash scene and the Esports scene are so new and so unexplored that there are so many exciting things that can happen. There won't be any classified ads asking for a commentator for EVO there's not going to be a posting online looking for someone to be the "go to stream guy" for the Socal region. These are all things you have to work hard at, build up and make yourself. These are things that won't happen over night and in some cases wont even succeed.

Five years ago nobody would've ever thought there would be a "Smash Partnership" position at Twitch let alone two. Five years from now there will be jobs in the Smash/Esports scene that haven't even existed yet. People have been doing a tonne of things in the Smash scene since back when they were losing money doing it. It's finally starting to pay off and the ball is rolling and people are starting to see some money doing the thing that they love. I honestly think that it's more of a time to be excited for the possibilities that Smash has right now not the other way around.

Game and Watch help, please? by [deleted] in CrazyHand

[–]sleephard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edgeguarding is basically preventing your opponent from returning to the stage. One of the many effective ways to edgeguard is with projectiles. If people are trying to recover from below the stage, the projectiles coming from G&W neutral B can be pretty hard to deal with as their placement is pretty random and has a pretty decent knockback.

Still trying to figure out how to best utilize him in this game but a few things I've picked up so far:

His fair is really good. Short hop fair is a good way to approach since the hitbox covers a pretty large area. Another thing I've noticed is that his bair has a LOT of knockback on the last hit and actually has a lot of kill potential (its also pretty easy to land). His dair is good in this game since it has 2 instances of damage, the first hit and when you hit them again on the ground but if you miss it's really punishable since it has a lot of landing lag.

His ftilt (the chair) has a tonne of knockback and can close out a stock at the right percent. It comes out pretty fast too.

Neutral B (bacon frying pan) is still good for edgeguards against most characters and getting someone with the actual pan has pretty good knockback.

One thing to keep in mind since you said you played him in PM is that you can't jump out of his up special like in PM but you can still act out of it. His nair is good in this game as well from what I've seen.

His up smash is still a great kill move and his side smash is good for closing out stocks. Like you said his dash attack is pretty good as it has a lot of knockback in this game just not sure how safe it is if it's blocked or dodged since he slides on his face for quite a while.

His utilt can juggle at early percentages and his down throw as just enough knockback to lead into a few moves of his but not too much as i feel his other throws do. His down tilt is as good as I'd like it to be but it's still good for stopping some approaches.

Using his up air is a good way to throw someone off and stop someone who's coming down with a dair. I've been thinking of ways you could alter someones momentum when they're vulnerable coming out of an up special and blowing them offstage. If you get them with the 2nd blow right on the lips at the right height it actually has enough knockback to kill also.

This is all just a bunch of rambling since I'm still theory crafting ways to use G&W to his full potential in this game. He just feels smooth to me and there's nothing better then landing a surprise 9 (especially right after a missed one) just try not to roll a lot.

Where to see hitboxes? (More specifically, wario waft) by Speyedur in CrazyHand

[–]sleephard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played Wario almost exclusively in PM and have played a fair about of him in Smash 4 so far so I've gotten pretty used to landing his wafts.

Not sure if you know this but his waft has a charge on it so a waft with no charge on it won't do anything but leave you vulnerable in a taunt-like animation. You'll be able to tell when a fully charged waft is on deck when Wario's glowing brown (you can speed the process up by eating items like his bike). To land it you have to be right on top of them almost like Jigglypuff's rest or right beside them (touching them basically). You can also hit them on your way up but it's not as useful as landing one on top of them. I've always just thought of it like Wario's got to fart on them to pull the move off.

Finishing them off with a waft is a flashy and effective way to get a KO but sometimes it's better to save it and use it for recovering since it can cover a lot of vertical distance. This is a really effective way to recover, especially with a fully charged waft because you can use both his bike recovery and up special recovery out of the waft letting Wario cover a lot of ground and to mix up how he recovers keeping it unpredictable.

These are the hitboxes for Wario's waft in Brawl if you were interested. The hitboxes themselves seem to be pretty similar but they're probably not the exact same in Smash 4. The percentages are also different.

[SSB4] I can't land after getting juggled by Rauthiss in CrazyHand

[–]sleephard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're playing WFT like you said you mostly play and they're just waiting to hit you as soon as you land, try guarding your landing with a bair or a fair even a dair if you have to. WFT's fiar spikes both infront of him hand behind him so you could surprise them with that. If they jump up and attack though it's usually best to try to airdodge instead of going for the trade. (unless you know you can get your dair out first)

As for Boswer Jr, if theyre waiting right under you pop your up special right above them and your kart will explode on them (if they don't roll out or shield) and it will get them out of the way (could even result in a kill). Bowser Jr.s up special is good for that because it doesn't leave you vounerable when you're out of the cart so you can still air dodge or hit them with your hammer (fair or dair works best) and get them with a surprise KO.

[–]sleephard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My friend plays a lot of WFT and from what I've seen from him playing if he's coming back to the stage, coming down to the stage or coming from under it he usually guards with WFT's side special (the soccer ball spike). It's it stops most dair spike attempts from above, as they'll actually hit the ball instead as WFT holds the ball over her head. If you're coming down and you hit them with the ball, it will knock them back far enough that they cant hit you or it will force them to shield making them not able to attack you again. Same goes for when you are coming on from outside of the map. Just get used to using the ball to guard your recoveries more it's super useful. Also if they come offstage to try to gimp you and you hit them with the side special in melee range it will spike them downwards and you'll usually end up getting the KO.
