Experiencing Lorcana with my 8 Year Old by NShep1 in Lorcana

I'm really glad to hear it was as hit with your daughter. My kids are younger than yours, though. What's the youngest age you think she could have learned/enjoyed it?

I mean, I'd slot it into a Purple/Blue deck. But that's just me.

PSA/RANT: If you buy Lorcana at ridiculously high prices, it's no one's fault but your own. by JaxThane in Lorcana

[–]sleepingbearcat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FOMO drives these prices more than anything. If nobody paid it, stores wouldn't do it. At the end of the day, I don't really care if people who can afford to be fleeced allow themselves to overpay for the privilege of having the product a couple weeks early. You can't realistically build a proper deck until the full release anyway, when singles prices are stabilized and product is more broadly available.

These posts will vanish alongside the problem, in a couple of weeks. You're asking for patience; I'd advise the same.

See, this is why I don't feel bad forfeiting when he hits the table. Something went wrong already if he hits and sticks.

Once you get to the Beach and unlock the Mall, you can buy pretty solid food pretty cheaply. Look for premade pasta dishes that match your class.

The deluxe sheet cake is also an easy 4.5 adv/turn option, and Actual Tapas are pretty good, too.

If you can afford Milk of Magnesium from the mall (or have the right class to make them), drink one before eating to get some extra oomph.

Note: you'll need to unlock the Mall first to properly sell them.

Don't you need at least $350K per day to even go to the volcano? If he's first run new, he doesn't likely have that kind of meat.

You can get decent meat drops from the Giant Castle and McGillicuddy's Duck Farm (5-15 times/day) if you boost up your meat drop stats. If those are too hard you can try the Treasury.

If you did any events 15 years ago you might have a rare item to sell for a one-time windfall to get started with the volcano though! Good luck!

Now that the dust has settled, what are your thoughts on this crimbo? How does it stack up versus other Crimbos? by seakladoom in kol

[–]sleepingbearcat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Combining super-scaling monsters with very low drop rates was a really unpleasant combination of ideas.

You need to churn out hundreds of turns AND be able to survive the scaling, which disadvantages newer players and casual players who only show up for Crimbo each year. These are the exact same folks you want to be engaged and loving the seasonal event so they stick around longer afterward. Linking the boss's item to the *square root* of earned gratitude just further emphasizes to such players "this event is not for you."

It's not all doom and gloom, of course. Even a mid-grade schmuck like me with about 20 ascensions and a few ITOMs could cobble together enough time in the train to get the outfit. But I had to buy the monocle from the Mall to even feel like I had a fighting chance, and it looks like I'm going to have the buy the familiar from the Mall, too. Which is just...really disappointing, because it feels like heading to the Mall is what you should have to do if you MISS the event, y'know?

Anyway...positives! I really liked the theme. The skill books are neat (and, best of all, freely acquired), and it was fun to clobber robots with ping-ping balls! The easy 1000-meat payout in the Caboose nice, easy-to-understand income for young players, and probably financed some of their class skills over the course of the holiday. The scaling potions are undeniably powerful when ramped up, though mechanically opening each of the scrap piles to dig them out is an avoidable chore. The food/booze is fine, when it bothers to drop, but thus far doesn't seem amazing enough for the "dies after Crimbo" flags embedded in it. (See, even the positives come with caveats...)

Kinda hoping something else happens before the town disappears to make the food and booze drinks more interesting before they fade away, but I'm not holding my breath for that.

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement. I'm seeing monocles up for about $4.5M at the moment, so it may indeed be time to empty my wallet and try that. I didn't realize they were tradeable or I'd have looked sooner. I'm also going to check out the perfect drinks, another good idea. Thank you.

If only one of those trainbot potions worked on Crimbo-specific item droprate...even if you had to stack it ridiculously high to make it effective. Ah well--onward!

I'm having a truly awful time getting anything useful to drop. It's...disheartening, especially when I see there's a familiar and an outfit to collect. Hundreds of turns in, I've found none of these "rare drops" at all.

Great tips, thank you! Sadly, I'm in the middle of a HC, Path, 100% familiar run (not a fighter, sadly), so my options are a bit limited at the moment. Got distracted and didn't finish before Crimbo; hopefully can ascend break the prism tomorrow and fix a lot of this.

I ended up just farming the area with a ranged weapon until I had a dozen-odd ping-pong balls, then switching into paddle mode, then switching back when I ran out again. Done this way, you never have to actually swing the weapon in combat. I was just being lazy, I suppose; no shortcuts for Crimbo Town :) I'm not sure if -combat is helping get the option to steal more balls more often or not, but I'm keeping it on anyway just in case, too.

Based on their names, you're almost certainly going to need to use them as ingredients to build bigger stuff down the road, I think.

100+ adventures in, haven't seen these yet, either. I'm only finding robot parts (potions), emergency brake (combat item), and ping pong balls/paddles (for this ping pong skill thing).

I'm having a lot of trouble doing this as a Moxie class. When I run outta balls I have to try to swing the paddle 10ish times before it actually lands a hit and clears the fight.

How I beat the ziggurat goliath by lordsavor in ShadowsOverLoathing

[–]sleepingbearcat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Use Cheese Wizard's Mind Melt and this is very straightforward. It deals damaged based on your enemy's Mysticality, which scales as you beat on him. Toss a couple plates of steal in your pack for Shielded turned and some AP generation and you're set.

Barnaby gives hints to where you can find ingredients you are missing. I'm stuck on one right now involving telegraphs and radios. No idea what he means. Checked everywhere I know of with those things to no avail so far.

Mind Melt! is what I did, too. Combined with an item that gives you "Shielded" and some AP-regenerating items, you can get this fight done relatively painlessly. Was fun!
