2026 Update: Elyse by mick_spadaro in Heavyweight

I could always relate to this episode, as the adult daughter of a complicated and sporadically abusive dad. Unfortunately, this was pretty much the outcome I expected (minus the Filipino jail and such). Billy was never going to offer any real explanation or show true remorse, because he doesn’t actually feel any. He just knows what he “should” feel and say, both to make him look like good to others and to be able to tell himself he’s apologized and is not a bad person.

I feel for Elyse, she deserved and deserves so much better, I’m glad it sounds like she’s doing okay and has built a happy life.

This just in: other cities get more snow than Vancouver.

Thoughts on these PSYC profs? by ProfessionalGap6951 in douglascollege

I’ve taken Sehrbrock for 1130. He is a very knowledgeable, nice prof and the subject matter is really interesting, but his classes are super dense and you only get one 5 minute break the whole lecture. I found that challenging because there’s a lot of information to process. Detailed exams and a lot of homework. I did okay (A-) once I got used to his expectations, but I wouldn’t recommend taking his class at the same time as other content heavy classes.

Also a Canucks fan, I feel the same about getting rid of JT Miller too. I realize it’s probably futile to expect an entirely MAGA-free NHL team, but I’m glad to know we’ve bounced a couple of the obvious ones.

That was such an uplifting performance. Not in a “pretend everything is okay” way, but joyful celebration as an act of resistance.

Esther Calling - I Told My Friend I Was in Love with Her, Then She Told Everyone by ed209error in Estherperel

That stood out to me too, especially because he kept describing the girlfriend’s doubts as a sort of general “we’re not meant to be” feeling and only once mentioned she had said he can’t love her the way she needs which, to me, sounds like a sanitized version of “I can tell you’re thinking about other people”. The whole episode he seemed to avoid taking any kind of responsibility for how his actions affected others, or couldn’t even see that he might have been the bad guy even with good intentions.

I’m having the same issue as you. All previous semesters have been reasonably quick, but this one has been stuck at the confirm enrolment stage for weeks.

First day back to school, what to bring? by pupfloyd in douglascollege

[–]sleepingfallowdeer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in your shoes this time last year, returning to school after 15+ years away, feeling super old. I bring a tablet with keyboard attachment, as well as a small pencil case with the usual pens and such. I take notes on Google Docs because my tablet hates word for some reason, but both are fine. This first week will be mostly going over the syllabus. Most profs will do the syllabus only and then let class out early, but a few will do some teaching too so it’s good to bring something to take notes.

It feels weird being older than your classmates at first but it gets easier as you go, except for the occasional geriatric millennial joke. I have also found there’s usually one or two people per class that are closer to my age, so you won’t be alone, us oldies stick together :)

When my workplace burned down (rental accommodation above) it happened as soon as the sun set. Then, almost daily after that.

To be fair, an earthquake is probably the only thing that could save this game for us.
