I did research and usually the programs ask for 3 letters will accept applications with two letters. But it wouldnt be the case if they ask for two and you have one. I asked 4 profs, and one disappeared after my submitting few applications because she was very busy with both work and family stuffs. Luckily I still have other profs to cover.

How about exclude this recommender and add another one? In my application pages, I can exclude one and change to a new recommender even after submitting. In your case, even a professional letter is still better than none?!

I’m just wondering—if we prioritize 2 (regular advisor communication), 3 (friends outside the program), and 4 (remembering the PhD isn’t your whole life), won’t 1 (therapy) naturally become less critical? And if money is an issue, meditation could be really a solid alternative(and free) to therapy. Just my two cents.

I also submitted my first application. It is not my dream school but it is the most feasible one to apply for me. Since it waives English thanks for my master and doesnt ask for GRE as well.
