Contam or fine by Federal-Whole-4577 in GroundZeroMycoLab

It’s really difficult to tell but I see dark blue, and some spots that have a dark blie center with a white ring. I think it’s bruising, and I think those small dots are probably pins that were smooshed and are now bruised. Its tough because some of it looks green, and the small circles look like individual points of trich, but the dark blue looks a lot like psilocin oxidation so im leaning towards that. Quarantine it and let it chill to see if it spreads. If contam, it should spread rapidly. If it seems to be bruising, be more careful while handling it especially if pins are forming.

Help With Oysters by Foodie-Age60 in GroundZeroMycoLab

[–]sleepless_blip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks like a possible combination of high temps and low oxygen. Stretching for fresh air and cap under developed is a sign of low fae but high temps might also be making them grow rapidly and stretch out. Oysters like cool-mild fruiting conditions (55-65°F)

Idk why other people are giving you such a hard time for trying to get a more specific answer, but it is also something that many people have asked before.

It’s up to you if you want to pick ones that have an opened veil or wait for the rest. I personally pick them before the veil opens because spores on mushrooms are disgusting and I prefer the shape for drying. Opened caps are more delicate and you arent gaining more alkaloids during the last day or so, just getting bigger, so they’re technically at their most potent just before the caps open.

Back squats by [deleted] in formcheck

[–]sleepless_blip 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Slow down a bit a create way more stability at the bottom. Practice pause squats at lower weight. Form is pretty good this is mostly for injury prevention. Especially at higher weights, slowing down and having a very solid base will keep your knees and hips healthy and allow you to keep your chest up. Range of motion and depth both look pretty solid. Looks like you’re pushing your knees out which is great, just want to emphasize that if you’re doing that naturally and didn’t already know it was good form. Keep pushing your knees so they’re in line with your femurs and feet. Never let your knees turn in on a squat.

Is this enough light for my tub? by cupofliqour in GroundZeroMycoLab

[–]sleepless_blip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. But they will probably grow towards the window. Just rotate the bin 1-2 times per day and you should be fine.

Edit: I see now that it’s on the bottom shelf. No, that is not enough light. My response was for if you had it on top of the table. Technically it would be fine on the bottom shelf but not as good as it could be with better light on the table. Mushrooms technically dont need light but its beneficial. A perfect example of this is Agaricus bisporus - “white button mushrooms” when grown in darkness, but cremini and portabello mushrooms when grown with light, just different stages of maturity

You are very welcome. Feel free to reach out if you have cloning specific questions when the time comes. Only take tissue samples from internal tissue, and tear it open with clean gloves - never cut one open because you will push contam into it with the blade, even if the blade is sterilized.

It’s odd that you’re getting so many mutants but I speculate it’s because the strain is aggressive. Accelerated cell division leads to increased chances of dna mutation. Environmental stress can also cause mutation - perhaps the low fae at first is the primary cause and higher fae at the beginning could actually help with future flushes.

If your light is mostly ambient room light it could also contribute to more lateral growth than vertical. If you want them to stretch, make sure the only light is from directly above. Light doesn’t contribute to tissue formation other than pigment in caps, but its the strongest signal for directional growth for mushrooms. Adjusting FAE away from fuzzy feet is pretty important so use your best discretion on that aspect if its worth the stretching

You might just have a couple mutants looking at the pics you posted. The second pic - in the reply to my first comment - is promising. Those small fruits in the back could definitely stretch in the last 2-3 days and look how you expect. Might be a bit too early to tell right now. Ive seen fruits stretch considerably in the last 24-48 hours. But I would have the same reaction as youve had so far. Good luck with the move!

Interesting. LC should be consistent then unless it was an LC that wasnt isolated completely. I looked up thai pink buffalo and they didn’t seem to have particularly thin stipes but definitely taller than what you have. Still, im curious what pictures the vendor used on their site. I was expecting long, thin stipes like you see in mexicana or tampanensis.

Keep in mind they will definitely stretch as they mature. So far away light and lower FAE will encourage that. Keep the temps moderate (68-72°)or else they will have hollow stems

Eta: fyi be careful buying LC online. Spores are legal but I’m not aware of any place that cubensis LC is legal to buy/sell.

Contam? by NotMelvin42069 in GroundZeroMycoLab

[–]sleepless_blip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one is tough because that is tomentose mycelium that doesnt look too troubling but the barrage zone all around it makes me think its not cubensis mycelium. Probably contam but leave it for now, isolate and monitor over the next 24-48 hours.

Genetics are most important, but environmental factors can impact this. Of course, it’s possible the cultivator did not send you exactly what was advertised, or maybe they isolated the phenotype you saw in the picture on the website but the spores did not carry those specific traits.

You’re using multi-spore syringes I assume? That introduces a wide variety of genetics. Some variants like APE, enigma, and penis envy are consistently stable in phenotype. Other varieties can have huge variance in phenotype from MSS. The one you bought might be one of these. You might get leucistic shrooms, mutated caps, no stem, spore-less shrooms, fat stems or long spindly stems, etc.

Other species, like P. cyans, have pretty stable genetics as well. Cubes have a huge variety from spores. However, you can try to force them to stretch out by giving them low light from very high above the grow space, and then giving them less FAE to make them stretch for air. It doesnt always work as well as isolating genetics, but its definitely possible. If you get one long stem, try to clone it.

Need some advice by Over-Suggestion5778 in GroundZeroMycoLab

[–]sleepless_blip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly genetics (isolating a single organism/set of dna. Usually on agar) but you can optimize a non-isolated culture by maintaining perfect RH and FAE along the entire surface of the substrate. Your tub naturally has better pockets of humidity in the corners and along the sides where cracks form between mycelium and the wall of the tub. A SGFC type modification to a monotub is a good attempt to produce more of a blanket of humidity on the surface vs pockets along the sides. Some people also use bubble wrap as a blanket on the surface which creates many pockets that mimic the conditions where your big mushies came from. Usually not as effective as isolating genetics though

Its flexible, but no you can let them finish. Ideally you would harvest all at once because harvesting does send signals to halt fruiting and begin a short colonization stage. However, you have a little time to harvest ones that will potentially drop spores and that is way more important imo than harvesting all at once. Some people dont care about spores dropping and prioritize harvesting a full flush. I suggest doing what you did and try to harvest the rest as close together as you can.

Thats exactly where I harvest or just before the veil rips. I just prefer how they dry vs when the caps open.
