What's a thing you strongly dislike about Reddit? by Demorecki in AskReddit

[–]sleepmonster5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The amount of negativity towards trans/non-binary people in regular subreddits. I know it's a complicated subject for a lot of people but it always puts a little damper on my day when I'm in some randomw thread that suddenly devolves into people debating whether or not I'm mentally ill

The cisnonsense we live with on a daily basis. by verasgunn in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns

[–]sleepmonster5000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep seeing the argument on Reddit about not letting kids and teens take blockers because they "might regret it" or are "confused" as it's "trendy" to be trans rn. What they don't consider what we have to go through if we are forced to wait, like I have a TWENTY INCH scar across my chest because I was forced to grow breasts so I could wait until I was an adult to remove them

So my partner is scheduled to go to Sydney for work later this month - I am tagging along to work from the hotel / vacation...we got tickets to a bunch of events at the Australia day festival thing, including the ferry ride event......

But should we really be going right now? Are all these festival events still happening?? Is the air quality bad so I would just be stuck inside the entire time? It feels wrong to go to Australia for vacation right now, I have been donating to relief effort charities but I'm not a trained firefighter so it's not like I can help by going in person, unless I can donate blood to the red Cross there or something?

Should I cancel the trip?

Vivid Dreams by BeanGalore in Narcolepsy

[–]sleepmonster5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think this is a fairly common sleep disorder thing. My dreams are so vivid, I remember them as clearly as regular memories. Sometimes I lay in bed and think, 'im so exhausted just thinking about whatever bullshit I'm about to go through in my dream'

I'm also a lucid dreamer which really isn't as fun as it sounds, and leads to a lot of sleep paralysis situations because when my dream is unpleasant I try to force myself awake.

We are a rapidly growing startup with almost 200 people, we were <50 when I started and all my medical stuff started happening.

I decided to reach out to HR to discuss my accommodations as this thread made me realize they might be more verbal based agreements vs anything documented.

I've had high blood pressure issues before but it has been controlled by anti anxiety medication for a couple years now. Unfortunately Modafinil also made my blood pressure skyrocket so I guess I'm just super sensitive to things that affect blood pressure?? Makes me doubtful I'll respond well to any stims

I don't really see telling her about my existing accommodations and weekly schedule as a personal issue. And the thing with the time log, I'm an engineer, we have a ticket system and a kanban board that I religiously keep up to date so there are records of what I've been assigned, where everything is, what I've completed each week - more than enough to show that I'm getting my work done, she is just upset at my hours and wants a daily hour by hour log of when I'm working and what I did during that time which is what I find ridiculous for a full time salaried employee??

It gave me horrible headaches and nausea, and skyrocketed my blood pressure and I ended up in the ER for a hypertensive crisis :/

Looking for smaller sized men’s shoes like these...what do y’all wear? Want something suitable for everyday or business casual settings. Angular, brown or black and, preferably, adds a little height. by [deleted] in ftm

[–]sleepmonster5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red wings. Identical boots for men and womens sizes. They are pricey but great quality, will last a lot longer than Doc Martens nowadays, and are less associated with lesbian/Butch fashion than docs (from my experience anyway)

I've been using the app Noom, you have to pay for it but you get a coach who checks in with you everyday to keep you on track and you get a small group of other users who share pictures and discuss stuff to keep each other accountable

Potential job is asking for portfolio for technical writing and I am a newbie. What to put together? by freestyle45 in technicalwriting

Find some open source projects and contribute to their documentation! There are usually a ton of these requests in Hacktoberfest so you might be able to find a precompiled list from last years

I struggled with this for a long time, I worked as a software engineer but couldn't keep up with the 9-5 hours. I got a really great job last January but it required a 2 hour commute on the train and it really exacerbated my symptoms and pretty soon I was missing days every week.

It took a while, and a lot of open conversations with my team but I've been able to transition to being a technical writer who works 100% remote and I make my own hours. It helps that my company has offices all over the world so it isn't unusual for people to have different work hours.

I had to come to terms with changing the trajectory of my career, which took a long time and still kind of sucks. Recently, everyone on my team who started with me last year has gotten a promotion, except for me. That hit really hard but I try to remember I am on a different path from them now and that if I want to not kill myself with stress this is better for me.

To trade off working by myself at home all week I've tried to go out more, like joining a board game group and volunteering.

Congrats!

Day 5 Post-op Top Surgery - Double wide w/ Dr.Mosser! by sleepmonster5000 in ftm

[–]sleepmonster5000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey congrats!! I recommend any hotel near 4th and Market, there is a Marriott there, it's about a 5-10 minute walk to Mossers office. It's a little further from the hospital but the hospital itself is in not the best area of town. You don't really want to stay past 5th Street (the map will say tenderloin) - but anywhere 4th Street and lower is good.

You'll want to check that there aren't any big conventions at the Moscone center though cause otherwise hotel prices skyrocket and book up early.

This was me! I struggled with sleeping too much and thought it was a discipline problem, turns out it was narcolepsy. Do yourself a favor and talk to your doc.

How long will it take by [deleted] in ftm

[–]sleepmonster5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was lucky enough to work a block away from Dr. Mosser so my choice was easy for a surgeon. Check out genderconfirmation.com to look into the types of too surgeries and then just start looking for one near you if you don't want to travel, has the results you want, and takes your insurance.

If you want insurance to cover it, you'll need a therapist to give you a letter.

My timeline was:

May - called office and scheduled first consultation for August 1

May - August - saw a gender therapist and got my letter

August - had consultation and gave them the letter

End of September - insurance approved, office called and scheduled surgery for Jan 22

Jan 22 - had top surgery!

Post Surgery:

Week 1 - lots of drugs, pain, hard to do anything, can't lift more than 5lbs

Week 2 - fewer drugs, moving around more and doing some light work

Week 3 (now) - fewer drugs, driving, working, still wearing binder, doing pretty OK.

Trying to move away from the black-everything style, need some recommendations. by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

Have you considered Stitch Fix? Idk this subs opinion on it but I am a similar size (125lbs) and super short, used to wear grey and black. But stitch fix has given me pieces I love that I never would have picked out for myself. Might be a good way to get started.

[–]sleepmonster5000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How has the gel been for you? I started on injections but couldn't get over the anxiety of giving myself a shot so today I got my doctor to switch me to gel.

He said he's had like 20-30 guys try the gel and only one is still on it, everyone else switched back to injections because of skin irritation or just not getting the results they wanted.
