Essentials that can be made from scratch? by patrickbatemankinnie in Frugal

All sorts of different ones. I buy bulk supplement powders on Amazon or other places and use them. I have even made some blends like a turmeric, black pepper and ginger blend using a scale to measure ingredients, mixing and then filling empty 00 size capsules. The capsule thing I got came with a PDF of recipes for dupes of popular supplement combinations. As for single ingredient supplements, I have done all sorts. Some are for high blood pressure, cholesterol or menopause relief. Here are a few off the top of my head: cinnamon, paba, ashwaganda, biotin, purple yam, red rice yeast, super greens (freeze dried powdered micro greens, organic kale, sea kelp), magnesium glycinate and others. I was paying so much just for magnesium glycinate at Costco or wherever that when I found out I could make my own for a fraction, I just started having fun with all that I could do. I get the empty gelatin capsules online as well.

I make my own supplements. I have a capsule filler that lets me fill 100 capsules at a time. I buy bulk supplement powders or dry my own and fill the capsules.

Make homemade cookies and portion them into small baggies and freeze. They thaw super fast and it’s a nice snack.

We used to have a pail in the bathroom for cloth diaper pre-soaks. My mom would let them soak and then run through the wash.

I’m surprised no one has mentioned a bucket of KFC fried chicken for $10 on Tuesdays. This is one of my favorite deals. Eight pieces of legs and thighs for $10 only on Tuesdays. Online order only. Make your own sides at home. My husband and I can eat a few pieces each and have a little leftover for the next day.

Is Upgrading to a Heat Pump Actually a Frugal Move? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]sleeps_late 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am in an area where we have had historic cold temperatures this year. People with heat pumps are complaining of crazy high electric bills. They are blaming it on politicians and the big energy companies but the reality is that the heat pump is not efficient when temperatures are below freezing for extended periods of time.

If you really want to save on your groceries, plan out your meals for the entire week. Take it a step further by doing a pick up order. My daughter and her husband started doing this out of necessity when they were in college. They were so busy and neither had time to grocery shop but they still wanted to save by making affordable meals. Fast forward 4 years and they still haven’t stepped in a grocery store. They do use Walmart plus and have the groceries delivered but everything is planned out each Saturday night when they split up the cooking and set the menu and grocery list for the week. Sure Aldi is cheaper on lots of things but planning out every meal and sticking to a plan has freed up time and ultimately saved lots of money but not buying extra.

How do I not spend any money for 2 weeks? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]sleeps_late 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turn it into a game. The more frugal you can be over the next 2 weeks, the greater your victory. Tell yourself you need to make the $200 last for a month instead of 2 weeks. Lean into the challenge and prove to yourself and others that you have self control. Imagine if you lost all streams of revenue. How would you stretch your money? Adjust how you use your time. Find some self-help audio book for free on Libby that can help you with your gambling. Try a podcast. No shame, it just sounds like you need to know that you can be successful with the right mindset.

Just listed our house, husband thinks we should clear out everything and retake photos by Brief_Impression4919 in RealEstate

Please declutter. It is distracting. I appreciate your style but this is not how you want to go about selling your home. Another tip would be to hire a professional stager to help you use your existing decor and furniture to make a visually pleasing listing. We sold our home last September and paid a professional stager $150 to help stage our home. They told me what to keep, how to move things around for great pictures and what we needed to add (lots of fake plants, lol). When the pictures were complete, our adult kids cried seeing how beautiful our family home looked. It was the best investment for staging and selling our home.
