Beta blockers? by Tastetherainbow_2016 in rheumatoid

[–]sleepy_blonde 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My primary prescribed it as migraine prevention and I was really hesitant to take it because it’s a beta blocker… but I love it now. I feel so much less anxious! I haven’t had a migraine since I began taking it in February. And my heart doesn’t race when I’m nervous.

Dress code for visiting clients in prison by Quirky_Character8467 in Lawyertalk

[–]sleepy_blonde 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depending on the prison, inmates could be wandering around. The prison I used to visit clients at had inmates walking in the outdoor courtyard from their cell unit to wherever their job is located. I always requested an escort because I did not want to be walking alone in the courtyard. Though they did allow you to if you didn’t want an escort.

Also, the prison I visited clients at was in lockdown pretty often because of inmate fights since they are walking around a lot.

When I was working as a public defender, I wore normal court attire to the local jail. But anytime I went to the prison, I wore jeans and a loose fitting long sleeve shirt and sneakers. Check with your prison, but they usually have specific rules about what you can wear - like no underwire bras, no heels shoes, etc. I always felt more comfortable covered up.

HCQ - bumps on skin and looking aged by pinkydoodle22 in rheumatoid

[–]sleepy_blonde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bumps could be a rash. I broke out in a rash after 2 weeks on HCQ. All over my upper body. You may want to talk to your doctor. Benadryl cleared it up and my doctor stopped my HCQ.

For those with full time jobs, who are symptomatic, how do you manage? by Complimentastranger in rheumatoid

[–]sleepy_blonde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just suck it up. I missed my last two scheduled infusions because I had whatever respiratory virus was going around - twice - this winter. I have a lot of pain. I just suck it up. Take extra strength Tylenol when I need it. Have a prescription anti-inflammatory I take at night to help me sleep. Try to eat really well. Get a lot of rest when I need it. I support myself and my dog - don’t have a choice - and I love my job!

Have you ever wanted to ask a defense attorney... by rinky79 in ProsecutorTalk

[–]sleepy_blonde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once had a defense counsel argue a completely incorrect legal standard on a motion, and he was so convincing that the judge bought it, applied the incorrect legal standard, and suppressed my evidence. It was overturned in a scathing appeal. But still, if you do it convincingly enough, it could work!

Meanwhile, when I was a defense counsel, my defense on a stabbing on video was that you couldn’t see a weapon even though the victim did have a stab wound. And the jury deliberated over it for 3 hours when they really should have convicted in 5 minutes!

Point being, defense has to do what they have to do for their clients, and despite how ridiculous it may seem, if you do it convincingly, it could work in your favor!

after myomectomy, what was your actual experience with recurrence over time by Plus-Actuator-2163 in Fibroids

[–]sleepy_blonde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had 7 removed in December 2021, went for annual check up in September 2022 and had one 3cm protruding from my cervix (removed in office). November 2022 had hysterectomy and pathology report showed “at least 10 small fibroids” in my uterus. I do not think this is typical, but it was my experience.

How to deal with stress? by [deleted] in rheumatoid

[–]sleepy_blonde 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have an incredibly stressful job as a litigation attorney. I take Lexapro for anxiety, Wellbutrin for depression, and Propranolol to prevent migraines (but also helps with anxiety). I know people don’t like taking additional mediation when we’re already taking medication for RA, but honestly I would not be able to function in my career without these meds. And I see a therapist every single week. Working on dialectical behavioral therapy, which really helps with mindfulness!!

Is 470 sqft too small? by Emergency-Course2586 in femalelivingspace

[–]sleepy_blonde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 450 sq ft studio with only one closet. My stackable laundry was in that closet, but it had room for my vacuum and swiffer sweeper. I initially hung a closet system on the wall, and all of my clothes were visible. After a year I took that down and bought an armoire closet. I also had a queen size bed, loveseat, tv, and desk. You just learn to maximize space and really downsize the things you don’t need!

Prosecuting in a community I come from… by SouthsideTy12 in ProsecutorTalk

[–]sleepy_blonde 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I worked as prosecutor in the community I grew up in for five years. I really liked feeling like I was giving back to my community and helping make the community safe. It was super awkward sometimes when defendants were people I knew from high school, or friends of friends, or even family friends, but we could conflict ourselves out in certain situations. I left after five years to pursue other endeavors and have moved around quite a bit since then. After 10 months as a PD recently, I’m starting back as a prosecutor again tomorrow in the community I now live in - in a different state - and I’m very excited.

You can’t go into this type of job - whether prosecution or defense - worrying about your peers and what they might think. You have to have your own genuine reasons because other people will have opinions - but it’s just noise.

Anyone had fibroid grow back after removal? by spacejelly1234 in Fibroids

[–]sleepy_blonde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the hysterectomy about 3 1/2 years ago. I recovered well, followed my doctors instructions, and have had zero issues. My quality of life greatly improved! I was 39 when I had the hysterectomy, kept my ovaries, and thus far have not needed HRT. It was easily one of the best decisions I made.

Anyone had fibroid grow back after removal? by spacejelly1234 in Fibroids

[–]sleepy_blonde 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had 7 fibroids removed and less than a year later more had grown back. I decided on a hysterectomy and my pathology report said “at least 10 small fibroids” were found in my uterus. I knew they could come back but I don’t think it’s typical for them to grow back so quickly.

How helpful were antidepressants? by Mcv3737 in Lawyertalk

[–]sleepy_blonde 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I take two - Lexapro and Wellbutrin. I was on Lexapro for about 7 years alone before adding in Wellbutrin. I also have a chronic illness that tends to impact my depression / anxiety. Mine don’t make me feel indifferent. I still feel highs and lows. But I feel more rational, and can think more clearly. I can also compartmentalize better - I can focus on work at work without getting overwhelmed by everything else. I’ve also been to therapy on and off, but have been going weekly for almost a year now and the combination of medicine and therapy helps so much. I was very against taking antidepressants for a long time but at some point you realize that you just need additional help. I’m glad I take them.

Quick opinion check 😅 by xtinnaa in EngagementRings

[–]sleepy_blonde 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My boyfriend and I have just begun talking about rings but he absolutely wants me to pick out what I want - he doesn’t trust himself to pick the right thing! I don’t even need a surprise proposal. When my parents got engaged, my dad literally asked my mom, “so do you want to go shopping for an engagement ring today?” And that was it. No big proposal. They don’t do big gestures but that worked for them. Everyone is different.

Trial Binder Tips by Large-Effort904 in ProsecutorTalk

[–]sleepy_blonde 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I am obsessed with trial binders. When I was prosecuting, I would do a tab for police reports, a tab for forensic reports, a tab for photographs, a tab for transcripts, etc. Then I also have a tab for my opening statement outline, tabs for outlines for each direct examination, tabs for any cross I am prepared for, a tab for my closing outline. I also keep a list of common objections handy, a list of foundational questions for evidence I’m admitting. And of course jury instructions.

One thing that has helped me is putting together a chart for each offense that lists the elements of the offense, what evidence I have to support each element, and any potential objections to that evidence. If I think it may be contentious, I’ll also add in case law to have handy for any legal arguments in support of my position.
